Flattery Will Get You Everywhere: Laura Geller Liquid Candlelight (review)

I have completely given up on trying to write a Halloween-themed review today. Lord knows I tried. But I got zip. I’ll just have to leave it to the other bloggers to wow you with clever Halloween tie-ins.

It could be that I’m just too freaked out about my costume. Mainly because this costume currently exists only in my head. I only just decided to dress up, so now I have to either find or make a genie costume to go with my makeup concept. (The whole reason I want to be a genie is because of the makeup.)

Okay, well maybe Halloween has sort of inspired today’s review. While I was rooting around in all my stuff to plan my genie makeup; I realized that I had yet another unsung, unheralded product that is such a staple that I failed to notice it. It’s from Laura Geller.

Liquid Candlelight Face and Body Glow

Blurb: Liquid light for the face and décolleté. There are so many ways to use this versatile face and body glow. Mix it with your moisturizer or blend it into your foundation for a subtle, all-over sheen. Stroke some on after your makeup to highlight your eyes, cheekbones or décolleté. Advanced skin brightener softly enhances skin tone and luminosity. Exclusive "Mineral Complex" provides light-refractive and skin protective properties. Multi-faceted shading brightens up any skin tone. Hypoallergenic, fragrance free, oil free. Stroke some on after your makeup to highlight your eyes, cheekbones or décolleté...wherever sun or moonbeams would strike. Can be worn alone, under, or over a favorite foundation.

This is one of those products I never even thought about. Then I got a sample from Sephora, tried it out and have been using it all the time ever since. It’s one of those perfect, super versatile, super useful products that I want to have forever.

It’s a very thin liquid with a nice luminous shimmer. That’s all. No color, just a sheer wash of shimmer. I usually put it around my eyes for a little bit of a dewy glow. I love it especially when I’m looking little tired at the end of the day. It gives just enough of a subtle boost. I also like using it on my brow bone, or to highlight my cheekbones. It’s a great way to enhance my cupid’s bow (the little indentation above the top lip), and it looks pretty tapped on over my blush. It also looks pretty on décolletage. And it looks pretty tapped on my collarbone. It pretty much just flatters whatever feature you apply it to.

It might seem like an extravagant extra step, but a little bit goes a very, very long way. My tiny sample lasted for a month; and a whole bottle lasts practically forever.

Laura Geller products are available on the website, Sephora,, QVC and

Happy Halloween!

That's Amore (Pacific): Moisture Bound Vitalizing Crème (review)

Last August I reviewed some excellent skincare from Amore Pacific. I really loved the stuff I tried, so I decided I'd see what they have for the cooler, drier seasons.

Moisture Bound Vitalizing Creme

Blurb: A mineral rich, luxuriously emollient, time-release cream provides immediate restoration of skin’s protective mantel and encourages optimal hydration balance over time for a soft, luminescent complexion. Unique water-free formulation utilizes Stabilized Bamboo Sap in lieu of distilled water for improved skin vitality. Enriched with HyperAqua-L™ a synergistic, blend of emollients designed to soften and smooth skin while reinforcing skin’s protective mantel to discourage water loss in skin’s outermost layers. AquaSponge Complex™exclusive moisture binding complex encourages skin’s natural hydration response to smooth and moisturize. HyperAqua-L™-a synergistic blend of emollients softens and smoothes skin as it reinforces natural barrier function to protect against water loss in skin’s vulnerable, outermost layer. Sunflower Seed Oil provides effective moisturizing and protective benefits essential to healthy skin. Green Tea Leaf Extractan extraordinary anti-oxidant. Provides protection against damage from free radicals caused by internal and environmental stressors.

Whoa man! "Moisture Bound" is right. This is a smooth, rich cream that glided onto my skin. It also absorbed almost immediately. My skin felt hydrated, plumped and velvety soft without being sticky or greasy. And in the morning my skin still looked great. This is an awesome moisturizer for anyone who is getting ready to face (pun intended) dry weather.

Amore Pacific can be found at Sephora and on the Amore Pacific website.

Happy Friday!

Like (Body) Buttah: Korres Yogurt Body Butter (review)

I can't even think of a segue way for this review. But if you're gearing up for the dry skin that comes with the next few months; you should point your feet (or mouse) towards Korres.

Yogurt Body Butter

Blurb: Organic yogurt provides ideal hydration and essential skin nutrition. Extra soothing for extremely stressed, overly dry skin. Luxurious, smoothing body butter, clinically proven to offer advanced moisturizing and antiaging action. Yogurt Body Butter is enriched with Shea Butter to soften, moisturize & restructure the skin. A proprietary blend of Sunflower, Almond & Avocado Oils restores skin’s elasticity & smoothness. Quince extract acts as a soothing agent to heal and nourish stressed skin.

Korres Body Butters are some of the best you can get; and the Yogurt Body Butter is probably their richest and creamiest formula. It is truly unbelievable. It softens my skin immediately and the softness lasts well into the next day. Even in the driest weather, my skin is baby soft. It also has a very lovely (light) fragrance.

All of their body butters are truly amazing. I've tried (and loved) both the Quince and Guava in the past. I'm thinking of giving the Clementine a try next.

Korres is available at Sephora, and on their website. The website also has two great promotions going on:

From the Lipstick Files: Du Wop Private Red (review and sale)

My lipstick obsession has remained strong throughout the summer and well into fall. Especially my obsession for red lipsticks. In fact, my friend Nancy had to actually talk me out of buying yet another one when we were at the mall. I was starting to think that I had reached my limit, and didn't need anymore. That is until DuWop decided to put out a new…red…lipstick.

Private Red

Blurb: DuWop has unlocked something new! Private Red, a color-changing lipstick that morphs into each woman's personal red, is the first of its kind to transform a single red shade into an endless variety of hues. This silky lipstick goes on smooth, and the rich pigment changes within five minutes to leave behind the ultimate perfect red. Private Red's proprietary formula includes a blend of three naturally derived pigments - annatto, hibiscus, and henna - and the technology behind the classic “mood lipsticks” of the seventies to provide a vibrant red shade that adapts to suit each individual's coloring. Annatto lends a rich pigment base, while hibiscus flowers offer gentle antiseptic properties, and henna leaves behind a long-lasting stain. Additional hydrating ingredients such as beeswax, caster oil and Vitamin E keep the lip color lightweight and emollient. Red is a stunning classic, but it can be the hardest to wear. Private Red offers a provocative answer to the question, “what is my best shade of red?” without the hassle of selecting the perfect shade from amongst an endless sea of choices. Private Red is available in an ENDLESS variety of shades.

Just when I think my obsession for red lipstick has run its course; they…pull…me…back…in! This lipstick promises to morph into each person's perfect shade of red. How could I possibly resist? (Answer to rhetorical question: "There was no way I could resist.")

I can't vouch for each person, but it sure worked for this particular person (aka: me). The color looked a little orangey when it went on; but within a couple of seconds, the shade changed slightly and looked exactly right for my complexion. The formula is smooth, creamy and has a soft shine. It also wears pretty well. And even though it isn't super long lasting, it leaves a really gorgeous stain that does last a long time.

DuWop is available on the website, as well as places like Sephora and Urban Outfitters.

If you want to do some early holiday shopping (or just buy a bunch of cool stuff for yourself); DuWop's big sale event (on their website) is this Friday (10/30) and Saturday (10/31). For two days only, you can take 31% off your entire order (enter code: "SPPRITS" at checkout)!

It's Not Saturday: Votre Vu Skincare and Hand Crème (review)

Remember how I told you that I typed my Saturday review and then forgot to publish it? This is the one. It looks like I'm finally getting back on track and things have stopped going "awry" (I don't know why I like that word so much, but I just do).

One of the cool things about trying out new stuff is…trying out new stuff. It's cool. It's new. It's stuff. What's also cool is finding a new company and getting to really check it out. I've had a chance to try out a lot of products lately from Votre Vu. So far, they have really delivered. Luxurious formulas, excellent quality, and way more reasonably priced than their European spa counterparts.

Tout Le Monde Antioxidant Eye Gelée

Blurb: A must for allergy prone, fatigued, overworked, under rested, puffy eyes everywhere. Enjoy the cooling and soothing effects of this fresh, transparent, aqua-blue moisturizing gel. Designed for the most expressive yet fragile part of the face, it hydrates, comforts, soothes and protects. Developed to improve the overall health, moisture level and quality of your skin, it firms, tones and tightens the entire eye area while reducing the depth of fine lines and wrinkles. Dark circles fade away into the sunset and puffiness deflates to reveal sleek, refreshed skin. It even helps make-up to stay put! With so many "super star" elements to mention, the formula list reads like a Who's Who of Successful Ingredients.

My eyes love this. It's very cooling, soothing and refreshing. I've especially appreciated it in the mornings now that the weather is dry. It's very light, absorbs quickly, and still hydrates well. It really does sit well under makeup too.

Portrait Collar Restorative Neck Crème

Blurb: Portrait Collar Neck Crème is wrapped in supporting ingredients that combat sagging tissues, diminish dreadful lines and promote youthful looking skin. The neck area has different hormonal reactors than the face, and as a result, ages faster. It has fewer oil glands and skin is thicker, creating the necessity for a specialized formula dedicated to refining the skin's texture and reinforcing the tissue for a smoother appearance. Marine collagen and elastin strengthen the subcutaneous tissues and promote elasticity. Centella asiatica helps to stimulate collagen and elastin formation while nourishing the collagen fibers beneath dry layers. Vitamin E, beeswax, shea butter, rose hips and ginseng protect this often neglected area and renew its vitality, while jojoba restores softness. The neck crème is richer than face crèmes and has more powerful hormone-stimulating ingredients. This luxurious formula absorbs quickly without leaving a stain or residue. You are now ready for your close-up. Keep Your Chin Up.

I don't have any sagging tissues yet (thank you very much), but I do have very sensitive skin on my neck. It can be a challenge finding anti-aging products that don't cause irritation. Especially in the drier months. I tried a small sample, so don't know what the long term results of using this crème are; but I do know that it has a very lovely feel and fragrance. It absorbed quickly, and left my skin soft and hydrated.

Tarte D'Amande Hand Crème

Blurb: This intoxicating hand crème leaves a soft veil of almond and coconut fragrance lingering on the skin. Beautifully absorbed, this special formula was developed to maintain the health, beauty and suppleness of your hands, while delighting your nose with a decadent aroma. This succulent recipe of nourishing and protecting sunflower, grape seed and jojoba oils combined with moisturizing and healing aloe, wheat proteins and natural sun filters develops into the perfect treat, anytime of the day. You'll never gain an ounce of fat, just one big serving of hydrating heaven! Luxe Hand Crème contains sun filters for UVA/UVB protection to maintain skin tone, while helping protect and keep hands soft, supple and younger looking.

This hand crème has the same amazing fragrance as the lotion I reviewed in September. Really, folks - this smells unbelievably good. It also softens and has some UVA/UVB protection. What's not to love?

If you're interested in trying out a sample; I suggest you send an email to Marianne at Votre Vu ( with your name, address and phone number. And once again, I'll advise you to check out all the cool stuff on the website.

Beer and Sympathy: Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo from LUSH (review)

Did you notice anything about Saturday’s post? If you were looking closely, you may have noticed that it wasn't there. (Okay, take a minute and look.) Why? Well because I typed my review and then forgot to publish it. And then I didn’t even remember to check until last night.

But then that’s kind of how my whole weekend went. Things basically just went awry. Plans got changed, there was miscommunication, scheduling problems arose. I was late to stuff. Other people were late to stuff. I even left my phone somewhere and had to spend an extra 90 minutes in the car to retrieve it. Now the weekend wasn’t a total loss. I did manage to have some amazing fun, but I only accomplished a teeny fraction of what needed to get done.

For instance, today I’m supposed to be at an audition. Am I at the audition? No I am not. My cold is still hanging on a tiny bit so I called last night to cancel. More plans gone awry. So what on earth does a girl do when there’s nothing to be done?

And since I've decided to be all health conscious this week, I’m going to recommend beer in shampoo form. And don't I just happen to know of an awesome product from LUSH? (The answer to that rhetorical question is "yes.")

Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo

Blurb: Last call with a lemon drop to give hair tons of volume and shine. If you have fine or frizzy hair, make friends with Cynthia. This shampoo's special recipe includes organic Irish stout and lemons. The stout adds weight to hair and smooths cuticles, while lemons give amazing shine. As a bonus, your hair will smell delicious all day, but please refrain from drinking your shampoo if you shower at night.

I couldn't drown my sorrows by drinking; but I sure cheered up when I saw how good my hair looked. This is a great shampoo for perking up dull winter hair. My hair was soft and fluffy (without being frizzy or fuzzy), and there was lots of extra shine. The fragrance is also perked up my mood – a nice subtle yummy lemony scent.

Another way to deal with plans gone awry is to take a moment and feel deep gratitude for all that has gone right in my life. And to pass on some of my good fortune or remind myself of the good things being done in the world. In yet another segue way, I'll point out that LUSH's Charity Pot Programme donates 100% of the retail price (minus taxes) of their Charity Pot hand and body cream to worthy causes.

Cheers and Happy Monday!

Anyway, read on (and click "play" on the hot widget)...

Introducing Power By Fifty Cent From Lighthouse Beauty
A New Fragrance From One Of Hiphop’s Most Powerful Players

What it is: A fresh glimpse at the life and times of Curtis Jackson. After first learning about wielding power on the streets, Curtis Jackson, a.k.a. 50 Cent, broke into the rap game to use that power for good. Rising from the streets to become a celebrated artist, unrivalled entrepreneur and generous philanthropist, 50 Cent is living proof of how power can be used positively. With the launch of his new fragrance, Power by fifty cent, the icon is empowering millions of fans to choose the same path and find the courage to make an impact.

Recognized as one of the most visionary and prolific artists of his time, 50 Cent has relied on his street smarts to elevate him from entertainment powerhouse to entrepreneur extraordinaire. More than a multi-talented mogul, 50 Cent is the embodiment of fearlessness: By trusting the instincts that helped him survive on the streets, 50 Cent let go of fear and skyrocketed to achieve the tremendous success he boasts today. This invincibility and empowerment are at the heart of Power by fifty cent, a potent new scent that captures the icon’s unparalleled confidence, street savvy and limitless power.

“For me, power isn’t just something you learn on the street or in the boardroom—it’s a way of life,” explains 50 Cent. “I really wanted to bottle up the rush it gives you so my fans can make it a part of their lifestyle.”

Strong, masculine and powerful, the scent is composed of a tonic freshness built with green citrus fruity notes juxtaposed against a musky, woody background. Top notes consisting of lemon leaves, black pepper and Artemisia are followed by a heart of dark woods, coriander and nutmeg with a drydown of patchouli, musk and oak moss. Developed by fragrance house Firmenich, the scent evokes both the grittiness of 50 Cent’s origins and the heady rush that accompanied his rise to power.

Power by fifty cent is captured in a bold, dark bottle created by the design firm, Maesa. The bottle is capped with an imposing top rimmed with pillars, reinterpreting a timeless sign of power for a modern age. Grommets and metal hardware evoke the strength and permanence of the fragrance enclosed within, making a powerful statement.

WHERE TO FIND IT: Exclusively At Macy’s beginning November 2009 .

Wishing You A Smooth Week: Smoothie Recipe from Envision Beauty

Having just gotten over a cold (why yes, I am still whining about it), I've decided to be a little more proactive this flu season. I'll be adding a few more fruits, veggies and supplements to my life. I'm also thinking of trying this smoothie. I just got the recipe from the folks at Envision Beauty (makers of The Solution which I reviewed a while back).

Kimberly Snyder (founder of Envision Beauty) has shared a new take on her famous Green Smoothie recipe. It's a perfect change of seasons drink (featuring seasonal and super-nutritious kale). Take a look:

Fall Green Smoothie Recipe
3-4 full leaves of dinosaur kale OR 5 smaller leaves of curly kale
3 stalks of celery
2 Bosc pears
1 banana
1 1/2 cups of cold filtered water

Strip the kale leaves (whichever type you are using) off of the stem, discard stems, and blend all the rest of the ingredients until smooth. Tastes best cold, so be sure to use cold water. If your blender is not very strong, and takes longer to blend up, thereby warming the smoothie, make the night before and keep in the fridge overnight. Keeps for a maximum of up to 3 days in the fridge. Makes 4 servings.

Kale is one of the most mineral-rich, beautifying greens there is. It is abundant in calcium, lutein, iron, fiber and Vitamins A, K, and collagen-building Vitamin C. Kale has seven times the beta-carotene of broccoli and ten times more lutein. Full of phytochemicals, it also packs in Vitamin E, which rebuilds beautiful skin. Both Vitamins C and E are also found in abundance in The Solution.

As we switch from season to season our bodies can become more sensitive and it can be easier to get sick. The high content of Vitamin C in kale also helps with immunity, and kale’s naturally rich sulfur content helps boost the body's detoxification enzymes and provides a great cleansing response in the body to wash the system of toxins.

Aim to drink the Fall Green Smoothie 3 times a week or more.

New for Commitment-Phobes: Urban Decay 24/7 Super Stash (review)

The term "beauty junkie" implies that I am sometimes (okay, often) fickle. Meaning, I am always falling in love with the newest, shiniest toy that gets dangled in front of me. Oh, I still love my old toys; but that won't prevent me from getting all worked up and dreamy-eyed over the next big thing. That said, enter my newest next big thing from Urban Decay.

24/7 Super Stash

Blurb: This rainbow of shades is the ultimate kit: the right balance of neutrals and brights for any look. Need to modernize your little black dress? Try bold strokes of gold, green or blue shades for some exotic flair. Wearing that bold-printed tunic? Try smoldering layers of neutral Eye Pencils to add depth and gleam without competing. Use them in combination, use them alone, give a few away. (Okay, don’t do that.)

Small enough to fit in a wallet or slimmest of evening bags, these mini-sized pencils still feature the exact formula you love in our full-sized pencils: extra creamy, easy-glide, and waterproof. Any UD junkie will pee their pants at the sight of this amazing set.

Why is this perfect for commitment-phobes? Because instead of committing to one item with my purchase, I got NINE! And FOUR of them are brand new shades! So satisfying.

I wasn't much of a "pencil" person until UD won me over a while back. UD pencils are perfectly, fabulously awesome. They glide on soft and smooth as can be, and then set to stay put forever. Included in this set are "Rockstar" (my current all-time favorite), Zero (black), Graffiti (pretty, bright green), Ransom (iridescent purple) and Stash (the color of…um…oregano). The new colors are Corrupt (sparkling brown), Binge (dark navy), Eldorado (a bright gold) and Oil Slick (black sparkle).

I love them all, but the two new shades I'm craziest about are Eldorado and Oil Slick. Eldorado is a really great "gilded" shade of gold. I like it for lining underneath my eyes, and I can't wait to wear this to holiday parties. Oil Slick is a gorgeous charcoal black – and the sparkle creates a lovely soft-focus effect.

UD fabulousness is available on their website, as well as Sephora, Ulta, and a whole lot of other stores and beauty sites.

Happy Friday!

LA Girls: West Coast Fekkai Flagship at Melrose Place

I'm a little late to the party with this one; but I wanted to share the info I got about the re-opening of the Frédéric Fekkai Melrose Place Salon. Doors to Fekkai's official West Coast Flagship opened on October 14. Check out the newly upgraded and expanded space, and read all about it…

Frederic Fekkai Names Melrose Place Salon New West Coast Flagship

Frédéric Fekkai, whose name is synonymous with sophistication and style, announced today that he will name the Melrose Place Salon the official West Coast based flagship Fekkai salon.

Located at 8457 Melrose Place, this newly expanded 2,400 square foot space will provide an intimate luxury retreat. After undergoing renovations and an expansion, the Melrose Place Salon will now operate on both floors of its current location with the addition of a ground floor retail environment. The renovation includes an expansion of the salon service area, shampoo stations and private pedicure rooms, bringing the total number of service chairs to sixteen.

Residing within a Spanish-mission style building, the salon will offer clients a sunny, relaxing oasis to experience the exquisite cuts and luxurious, high-end services that Fekkai is famous for, including hair styling and coloring, manicure, pedicure, bridal services, brow grooming and make-up application. Clients will have the option of visiting the salon six days a week, allowing them to easily schedule appointments that cater to the demands of their on-the-go lifestyles.

The reopening of the Melrose Place salon allows the Fekkai brand the opportunity to consolidate its locations, while adding valuable ground floor exposure. The new space also lends itself as a more attractive event venue facilitating opportunities for cross promotions with local businesses.

The re-opening of the Melrose Place salon marks a move by Fekkai towards a more consistent representation of the luxury brand equity he has become known for. “The reopening of the salon will allow us to bring an improved luxury experience to our clients. Melrose Place continues to be at the center of one of the most fashionable districts in Los Angeles and we are delighted to remain a part of that community,” says Frédéric Fekkai, Founder & President of Frédéric Fekkai & Co.

The salon’s layout is designed with open style and color studios in a warm, loft-like setting with dark brown leather banquette seating, soft silk pillows and sophisticated polished-nickel table lamps for a modern look and feel. A generous outdoor terrace lined with banquette seating will allow clients to enjoy manicures and pedicures “al fresco” while sipping beverages or nibbling on a delicious lunch. The shampoo area is cordoned off from the main space to provide an intimate, soothing setting with state-of-the-art chairs to provide the utmost comfort.

I Feel…Better: Kairos Acne Hair Care (review)

Hi everyone! Looks like my virus is finally on its way out. I'm still sort of sqinty-eyed, but definitely feeling more like myself. I am also realizing that a whole bunch of stuff has not gotten done this week. I had planned to put all my summer things away, and get out all the cold weather stuff. It hasn't happened. Luckily, we're having a little bit of an Indian Summer, so it's not such a big deal. One thing I have started, though, is switching over to fall hair care and skincare products (I think I hear a segue way coming).

Changes in weather mean big changes in my hair. It gets too cold to wear my hair back, and I also start needing more conditioner and products. Since my hair is in my face more, and I'm breakout prone; I also have to watch out for clogged pores. I've been trying out some pretty genius products from Kairos Acne Hair Care.

Balancing Breakout-Controlling Conditioner

Blurb: Kairos Balancing Breakout-Controlling Conditioner is a unique dual-purpose complex that clears blemishes and helps to prevent future breakouts while balancing and nourishing hair - leaving it soft, smooth, and tangle-free. This medicated formula combats the acne-causing factors linked to hair and hair products, effectively controlling and managing acne. With regular use of Kairos Balancing Breakout-Controlling Conditioner, users report: blemishes heal, excess oil on the scalp, hair and face is reduced, frequency, number, and intensity of breakouts lessen, and future breakouts are prevented. The carefully chosen cocktail of natural botanicals nourishes and balances hair for salon-quality results without acne-irritating aftermath for your complexion.

This is such a fabulous idea – a rich, softening conditioner that isn't going to clog my pores! Awesome. What also stood about this conditioner was how fast it detangled. Probably one of the best detanglers I've used. It also had a lovely fragrance, and made my hair feel soft.

Heat Protectant Clear Thermal Spray

Blurb: Kairos Heat Protectant Clear Style Thermal Spray is a high quality blend of natural ingredients that protects hair from the heat of styling tools for softer, healthier hair. Imparts extra shine and smoothness without acne-irritating aftermath for your complexion.

Colder weather also means that I am using my blow dryer again. This spray worked really well, and it also worked as a leave-in all by itself. I was very impressed.

Spiking Clear Style Hair Glue

Blurb: Kairos Spiking Clear Style Hair Glue is a no-flake, high quality blend of natural ingredients that grips hair for ultimate hold and style. Gives maximum control over wet or dry looks without acne-irritating aftermath for your complexion.

I was wondering how I could try this out since my hair is too long for spiking. Turns out I actually found a use for it during my show last weekend. I'm supposed to look scary and weird; so I used the hair glue to make my hair into long spikey, snake-like strands. They pointed out from all sides of my head. It was pretty cool if I do say so myself. Oh yeah, the glue. Held like you wouldn't believe!!! I was thrilled. My elaborate medusa-snaky hairstyle stayed put through hot stage lights and lots of dramatic stage business. It took a while for me to wash it all out, but once it was out, my hair was just fine. No dryness or brittleness from the hair glue. I'm definitely keeping this in my theatre bag (after I figure out how to work it into my Halloween costume).

Kairos is available on their website. Depending on your needs, you can also order the whole system (including shampoo, gel, spray and treatment). There's also an Acne Care and Causes page.

Beauty Secrets of TV's Hottest Stars

Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and Gossip Girl...these are some of fall's hottest TV shows and apart from drama, love and suspense, they also bring their stars’ latest beauty ‘obsessions’.

Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh and Katherine Heigl share ‘a thing’ for the Korres lip butters. While Ellen is more of a quince girl, Katherine loves the newest addition to the line - Jasmine, and Sandra opts for the darker shade of Plum. The Korres lip butters melt on the lips and offer a shiny, tinted finish, while the mixture of Shea Butter and Rice Wax offers deep hydration and softness.

Gossip Girl’s breakout star Jessica Szohr has singled out two Korres products. She brightens her eyes with the Soft Eyeliner pencil in Light blue - idea for use on the inside of the lid. The gentle formula moisturizes and protects the sensitive skin of the eye thanks to Jojoba oil and vitamin E. Vanessa also uses the Korres Pomegranate Wipes to remove her make-up after a long day of shooting. The Pomegranate extract, rich in antioxidants, tightens the pores while refreshing the skin. Plus, the handy re-sealable packet is perfect for any girl on the go.

Marcia Cross is an advocate of Korres’ very first skincare product and a global best-seller until today, the Wild Rose 24-hour Moisturizing and Brightening Cream. The Wild Rose oil is a natural source of vitamin C, which repairs and brightens the skin. The 24-hour moisturization makes this cream a winter necessity.

Fall Comfort: Figs and Leaves Soap from LUSH

Hey all. Still wheezing a bit, but I'm on the mend. I keep falling asleep, though. So before I doze off again, I want to talk about my new delightful bar from LUSH. I've been in need of some comfort, and found some in…

Figs and Leaves Soap

Blurb: Earthy orange garden smoothes skin and leaves it supple. Ashy or scaly skin? Nevermore with Figs and Leaves handmade soap. Tiny fig seeds brimming with nutrition and gentle exfoliation yield to a creamy, aloe vera conditioning lather and a bouquet of fresh garden aromas. The scent of oranges and earthy ylang ylang linger on your silky, smooth skin as a tempting reminder of sweet cleanliness.

To begin with, this one of those absolutely perfect scents for fall. It's infused with fig; and the fragrance is warm, rich, sweet and slightly spicy without being perfumy. And now that the weather is turning cold and dry, you will love the way this bar moisturizes. The essential oils and skin softeners in the bar are like comfort food for your whole body. And the little fig seeds give just enough scrubbiness to coax away rough skin. My skin felt clean, smooth and very very soft.

I have another yummy fall LUSH product to write about soon (for hair); but in the meantime, take a look at the fabulous website (or visit one of their stores). In addition to the great fall stuff, you can also check out some of the cool limited edition Halloween products. There are also the newest Holiday items (hint, hint) as well as awesome retro holiday items.

The Masked Blogger (Part Last): Mask Sheets from THEFACESHOP (review)

Since the opera is tomorrow, this will be the last of my opera/beauty tie-in’s…for now (cue ominous music). I had only planned to do one mask per week; but then I got my hands on more cool stuff from THEFACESHOP.

This Korean company launched their U.S. website a while back; but you've probably also seen their goodies at Walgreens. They get their inspiration from nature, and develop products according to three core concepts: “naturalism, value and variety.” Products are manufactured with ingredients like flowers, grains, fruits, glacial water(!) and herbs. Some of their most popular items are the mask sheets. I tried out two.

Pearl Essential Mask Sheet (For Clearer Skin)

Blurb: A pearl mask sheet for clearer skin. What is Pearl? A rare, precious stone rich in calcium which helps illuminate, clarify and hydrate lackluster skin. The concentrations of pearl in this gentle mask sheet are effectively absorbed to clarify and refine skin.

Collagen Essential Mask Sheet (For Firm, Hydrated Skin)

Blurb: A collagen mask sheet for firm, hydrated skin. What is collagen? An essential factor in the strength and elasticity of skin, collagen constitutes over 90% of deeper dermal layers and is responsible for keeping skin firm and hydrated resulting in smoother facial contours. The concentrations of collagen in this gentle mask sheet are effectively absorbed into skin to leave it firm and hydrated.

This is great way to add some pampering to your skincare routine. Open the package, lay the mask over your face, relax, and let it go to work. After about 15-20 minutes, you simply remove the mask and rub any remaining product into your skin.

The Pearl mask had a light scent and felt very refreshing on my skin. I was worried that there would be tightness or irritation, but instead my skin felt refreshed and hydrated. The Collagen mask was very soothing. It had a light pretty scent and felt cool and creamy. And afterwards, my face was balanced, hydrated and a little glowy.

I love the whole idea of these masks (as well as the masks themselves). They’re luxurious mini-spa retreats that are also simple, quick and affordable (two masks cost about $5.00). They’re great for travel; and a bundle of these tied with a ribbon would make a nice little gift.

The new website has the entire (huge!) selection of masks (Vita, Imperial Herbs and Cereal to name a few), and tons of other cool stuff. Or if you want to browse, you can also check them out at Walgreens.

Friday is Nail Polish Appreciation Day: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear (review)

Okay, it's also National Boss' Day; but my small selfish mind is on my manicure this morning. Mainly because I have to remove all of my nail polish before my performance. That's right, girls, no nail polish. Not even clear. That's how much I sacrifice for my art.

Silliness aside, I really do want to take some time to appreciate two of my favorite polishes from Sally Hansen. Both are from the Xtreme Wear line and I have loved them for a long time.

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear (in "Blue It" and "Strawberry Icing")

Blurb: Xtreme strength plus shine. Match your manicure to your mood! Fun, trendy shades - collect them all and change your nail polish as often as you like! Easy grip, easy glide brush designed for complete control. Available in 30 of the hottest, most wanted shades. Special Ingredients: Bioactive Glass bonds to nail proteins to give a hard manicure that lasts up to 7 days!

Xtreme Wear is one of the best things ever to come from Sally Hansen. Edgy colors, a great brush, and a spectacular formula that has tons of shine and lasts like you wouldn't believe. A really great combo in my book.

Two of my favorite colors (ever!) are from this line.

"Blue it" is a deep royal blue with lots of electric shimmer. It's edgy and modern, but it's also pretty and flattering (especially on my toes).

"Strawberry Icing" is the other "extreme." A super pretty, sweet, yummy, sparkly pink. It makes my fingers and toes look almost edible.

Sally Hansen consistently combines high quality products with budget-friendliness. I'm thinking of picking up a bottle of "Black Out" for Halloween (or just to get a new shade). It's also easy to find – drugstores, grocery stores, Target, Ulta,, and just about anywhere else you can think of.

Happy Friday (and Boss' Day)!

The Masked Blogger IV: Kronos Phyx Overnight Hair Repair Masque (review)

Here's my fourth “mask” installment*. Last night we had our first dress rehearsal and I got to see the actual masks that the other characters wear. I also got to see a lot of normally sane artists (myself included) begin to completely unravel and stress out. Music is so uplifting!

Anyway, back to the pretty part. If you read only one of my mask-related posts, this should be it (so far). Today I’m reviewing a hair mask from Kronos Hair Care.

Blurb: How old is your hair? Hair aging is not just a result of your age in years. There are many factors that cause hair to age, often prematurely — from environmental stressors that strip hair of its color and shine, to styling tools that leave hair dry, fragile and damaged. As a result, even the hair of a 20 year old can look aged beyond its biological years. Bring your hair back to its natural state. Restore youthful body, brilliance and fullness - for hair that looks amazing today ... and tomorrow. Experience hair that defies time.

Kronos has an entire line of products dedicated to “age-corrective” hair care. In other words, they aim to reverse some of the ravages of time and outside stressors that might make our hair seem “old.” Since I have treated my poor hair to many, many “outside stressors,” I was pretty eager to try a little correcting.

Phyx Overnight Repair Masque

Blurb: This incredible treatment formula works overnight to repair, condition and replenish damaged hair. It renews and repairs with expertly blended ingredients, resulting in silkier, shinier locks. It also helps to enhance color for a richer and more vibrant hue. Damaged, dry or unmanageable hair becomes healthy, soft and resilient. Repairs damaged hair, deeply conditioning, softens and smoothes, enhances shine, promotes rich, vibrant color.

This is an overnight mask. You work it through your hair in the evening, leave it in while you sleep, and then rinse out in the morning. I liked that this mask wasn’t gooey or greasy (and didn’t leave goop on my pillow). I’m not 100% sure I understand all the science and philosophy behind their products; however, I do understand that my hair LOVED this Masque. This product made an immediate difference the first time I used it; and over the weeks, my hair became…better. Softer, shinier, prettier, more manageable – that kind of better.

Now I’m dying to check out some of their other products - especially the conditioners. As always, I suggest you visit the website. Check out the shop section, and read about the five signs of aging hair. Kronos products are also available at HSN, and

*Since the opera I'm in is called "A Masked Ball" (Un Ballo In Maschera), I decided to write about some kind of mask each week until the performance.
