I can’t believe it’s March already. (But it is.) And spring is definitely in the air. It was still chilly today; but there was all kinds of sunshine. Even though I like the snow, it was nice to see everything looking so bright and cheerful.

Modern Monday: Origins Modern Friction™ (review)

Yeesh! I guess I was a little loopier than I thought this weekend. I didn’t even notice that my Friday post completely disappeared. Don’t worry – I found it and put it back.

Thanks to the magic of modern pharmaceuticals, my tooth/gum is much better. But I’m still taking painkillers, so I’m not as alert as I could be. Luckily my job doesn’t require me to operate heavy machinery. The un-heavy computer keyboard is enough of a challenge.

Turn, turn, turn: Origins Gloomaway Grapefruit Bath Bar (review)

Today it really feels like Summer is over. This morning, I was talking to someone who lives slightly north of me; and he told me that the leaves where he lives are really starting to change. And when I walked outside, I saw a few leaves with a slightly reddish tinge. It was also overcast and drizzly today…and the smell of Autumn was in the air.

In about a week or so, I’ll be thrilled at the beautiful leaves and the crisp air. The Cleanser is fabulous (use just a little – trust me). It contains salicylic acid (to fight breakouts), and cleans beautifully without stripping or leaving a residue. I also love the refreshing, cool tingle – and how soothed and balanced my skin feels after I rinse. The Lotion…also completely fabulous. It's light, soothing, cooling, and hydrating. What was extra awesome was that it mattified on contact, and kept my skin feeling hydrated (yet feeling super "clean").

Both products worked really well together to clean, soothe and battle oiliness and breakouts all day long. The fresh scent also gave me a nice lift during the hot summer days and nights.

Hello everyone and welcome to a new week! I'm still a little sleepy from the old week, but happy that the weekend was awesome. For some reason, I can't think of a single cheesy tie-in to today's review. Other than the fact that I'm reviewing something…awesome. From the awesome folks at Origins.

I find it hard to believe that I've only been using serums for about 2½ years. Before that, my life was completely serum-free. How ever did I manage? (Answer: I have no idea.) Origins' First Annual Free Concert: It Rocked

I wish I could have been there, but by all accounts it was awesome. Take a look…

Monday night, Origins invited fans in the tri-state area to the first annual Origins Rocks Earth Month concert to celebrate Earth Month and to further the brand’s programs for sustaining the planet. The free concert, held at Webster Hall New York City, featured headliner Macy Gray and emerging artists Ryan Star, whose single “Breathe” is currently charting, and Jon McLaughlin. Origins chose to partner with the Grammy award-winning artist as her new single, “Beauty in the World,” truly captures the sentiment of Earth Month.

Juliette Lewis, one of Hollywood's most talented and versatile actors, emceed the event. A long-time fan of Origins and its responsible approach to creating a sustainable business practice, Juliette rocked out to each of the performers throughout the night.

In honor of its Return to Origins Recycling Program, Origins offered two free tickets to consumers who brought at least one empty cosmetic package, regardless of brand, to select Origins retail stores in the tri-state area. Origins will be submitting all of the collected empty packaging to be recycled or responsibly converted to energy. In celebration of Earth Month 2010 and Origins Earth Initiatives which support programs that help to sustain the planet, Origins will host its first annual Origins Rocks Earth Month Concert in NYC on April 19th. Fans are invited to the FREE star-studded concert at Webster Hall New York City located in Downtown Manhattan featuring Grammy Award-Winner Macy Gray. Origins has chosen to partner with Macy as her new single “Beauty In The World” captures the sentiment of Earth Month. The concert will also include performances by emerging artists Ryan Star and Jon McLaughlin and will be hosted by a special celebrity guest emcee.

“At Origins, we recognize the importance of environmental stewardship. Earth Month 2010 provides the perfect platform for Origins to reaffirm its commitment to giving back to Mother Nature, employing green practices and celebrating the planet,” announces Jane Lauder, General Manager/Senior Vice President, Origins. “Last year, through our Global Earth Initiative, Origins collected 7,500 pounds of empty cosmetic packaging to be recycled or responsibly converted to energy and planted nearly 24,000 trees. This year we are eager to further our green programs.”

One free concert ticket will be offered to those who bring at least one empty cosmetic package, regardless of brand, to Origins retail stores in NYC, Westchester and the Garden State Plaza Mall (no purchase necessary, while tickets last.) Ticket holders must arrive at Webster Hall New York City for first come first serve entry. Origins will collect all the packaging and recycle or responsibly convert it to energy through its Return to Origins Recycling Program.

RETURN TO ORIGINS RECYCLING PROGRAM
Earth Month 2009 marked the launch of the Origins Recycling Program, a first-of-its-kind national cosmetics recycling initiative. Origins leads the industry-wide campaign by providing customers a place to drop off their empty cosmetic packaging including bottles, tubes, jars, caps and compacts regardless of brand to any Origins retail store or department store counter. Origins will then submit the packaging to be recycled or responsibly converted to energy.

According to The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, everyday packaging accounts for approximately 1/3 of all landfill waste. In an effort to continue Origins commitment to protecting the earth and its resources, Origins decided to tackle this problem head on and launch the Return to Origins Recycling Program. As a thank you for participating, Origins offers consumers a free product sample of their choice.

PLANT-A-TREE CAMPAIGN
To further its Global Plant-A-Tree Campaign, Origins will plant a tree on behalf of each concert attendee through its partners Global ReLeaf™. Did you know that just one tree provides oxygen for up to four people per day?

In 2009, Origins launched its Plant-A-Tree Campaign in partnership with American Forests’ Global ReLeaf™; an education and action program that helps individuals, agencies and corporations improve the local and global environment by planting and caring for trees. I use this a lot because it's a great reasonably priced, makeup-friendly sunscreen. It's lightly tinted, zinc-oxide based, feels weightless and actually helps even out my skintone. It has a slightly higher than usual SPF and is also fairly water resistant. Contains anti-oxidants, oil-free, non-comedogenic, allergy-tested and fragrance free.

Origins Out Smart™ Daily (SPF 25)
This is one of the few non-zinc oxide sunscreens I recommend because it goes on like a dream. It feels smooth, weightless and absolutely melts into skin. It's lightly tinted, incredibly soothing and slightly moisturizing. Oil-free, dermatologist and opthamologist tested.

Solar Sense Clear Zinc, Advanced Sun Protection For Face (SPF 45)
Micronized zinc oxide means no white cast. It offers great protection and comes in a convenient, travel-friendly plastic jar. It's also fairly water-resistant. Contains vitamins A, C, E, aloe and green tea. Non-greasy, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and doesn't clog pores.

SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense (SPF 30)
Contains transparent zinc oxide and doesn't leave a white cast. Slightly moisturizing, but doesn't clog pores. This works pretty well as a makeup base too. My dermatologist recommends this highly for every day use.

DDF Organic Sun Protection (SPF 30)
I reviewed this in an earlier post, but it bears mentioning again. DDF is an excellent skincare line and this sunscreen is no exception. Oil free, non-comedogenic, moisturizing, non-irritating and contains antioxidants. It isn't sweat-proof, but it's excellent for those days that are sunny, but not too hot.

Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer (SPF 15)
This is another non-zinc oxide sunscreen. What makes it a standout is its ability to soothe and calm irritated skin. My neck can get extremely sensitive sometimes, and this moisturizer calms it right down and feels wonderful while it protects. Oil-free, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested.
