Hair Care Friday: Moroccanoil® Oil Treatment (review)

I'm happy to report that the first 6 weeks of growing out my hair have been very successful. Successful because my hair is…longer. Which isn't such a huge achievement, since I haven't had a haircut. But it's also successful because I'm having a whole lot of fun researching and trying out new hair care products. Getting longer hair is cool; but a new obsession is just plain awesome.

During my research, I kept coming across raves for an amazing brand: Moroccanoil. I've heard nothing but great things about them; and now I'm getting around to trying out some of the actual products!

The Original Moroccanoil® Oil Treatment

Blurb: An oil treatment for all hair types. Moroccan Oil is alcohol-free and has a patented weightless formula with no build up. Softens thick unmanageable hair and restores shine and softness to dull lifeless hair. Instantly absorbed into the hair, this trademarked product eliminates frizz, speeds up styling time by 40%, and provides long-term conditioning to all hair types. Moroccan Oil contains a unique formula that strengthens brittle hair while promoting healing to the hair. Also provides nourishment to hair damaged by coloring and styling. Creates an optimal balance for the hair and scalp. Moroccanoil nourishes the scalp by alleviating itchy, dry scalps. Protects against UV damage and other environmental factors.

I'm starting with the original. The whole MO raison d'etre. (Ooh, maybe I should call today "Fancy French Words Friday"…No I shouldn't. Sorry.)

Anyway…I totally get why everyone raves about this stuff! Moroccanoil is the originator of argan oil hair products, and they have gotten it absolutely right. We've had two days of wretched my-hair-hates-you humid weather; and this Treatment has tamed every smidgen of frizz. The curls look curly (vs. fuzzy) and my hair is shiny, pretty and manageable. It also feels really soft – but not oily or greasy at all.

I worked a very small amount through my damp hair and let it dry. That's it. It absorbed immediately and really did seem to help my hair dry a little bit faster. I especially love the way my ends look. I'm also thrilled that it protects against UV damage and nourishes the strands. And I can't wait to try this in conjunction with my coloring products!

Mosey on over to their website and take a look at all of the cool stuff. Morocconoil is the leading manufacturer of argan oil products, so they have a dizzying array of treats. You can also check out their special promotions, events or locate a salon.

Happy Friday (and have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend)!

Green, Girly and Rad! Surv-Vival Natural SPF 30+ SunBlock (review)

You must know by now that I can't let a holiday weekend go by without discussing sun protection. My passion for sunscreen is second only to my obsession with eye liner (and sunscreen is about one gazillion times more important). Luckily, the huge selection of sun protection products mean that there is probably something exactly right for you (or even several somethings). Today's selection is from a fabulous company called Smart Girls Who Surf.

Surv-Vival Natural SPF 30+ SunBlock

Blurb: Our sunscreen has broad spectrum UVA/UVB protectionformulated with Zinc oxide (5%) and titanium dioxide (7%) and fortified with green tea extract, pro-vitamin B5, C and Vitamin E. This SPF sunscreen is sweat resistant, water resistant, won't sting your eyes and is chemical free and paraben free. This is the best sunscreen for your body and it is environmentally friendly!

Smart Girls Who Surf is a natural skin care company in Southern California. They're committed to making earth-friendly skincare products that take care of both our skin and our planet. Their sunblocks, lotions, conditioners and soaps are designed to keep parabens and chemicals away from skin and the environment.

I've been looking for a good heavy duty sunscreen for a while now (for activities a little more vigorous than shopping.) Something I can wear to the beach that looks great, takes care of my skin, and holds up to water and/or vigorous activity. This one is excellent! It's formulated for surfers (and surfer tested), so it's made to hold up and stay put. I found the formula creamy and soothing (it contains aloe vera, glycerin, and palm oil). It was absolutely water and sweat resistant (I wasn't at the beach, so I tried it in the shower), and it didn't irritate my skin or sting my eyes. It's also formulated with my favorite "big 2" top notch barrier sun screens (Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide). It even has a great beachy fragrance!

Smart Girls' products are skin friendly, planet friendly and super girl friendly. To read more about them and their products, visit the website. You can check out the Team Riders, read their blog or investigate retail locations near you!.

Happy Thursday!

Cannes: Emily Blunt and Moroccanoil

Check out Emily Blunt's look at the Cannes amFAR benefit. I just tried out one of the products mentioned used (Moroccanoil Treatment) and will be writing about it tomorrow. In the meantime, get the details of Emily's look…

Emily Blunt's Hair Look at Cannes

Emily Blunt looked dazzling at the amFAR benefit at Cannes, wearing a fiery red George Chakra gown, bright red lips, and hair in soft, natural, shiny waves.

Laini Reeves (her famed UK born hair stylist will be opening the much-anticipated EssensualsLondon Salon in Los Angeles next month) created the beautiful look.

"I wanted Emily to be beautiful and sophisticated but to look her age, with hair down and flowing in soft waves that framed her face," she explained. "Since Emily was not only an event chair at the amFAR Cinema Against AIDS 2010 benefit, but was going to the party directly afterward, it was important to create a look that lasted long into the night. Emily has a lot of hair but it's very fine and doesn╒t always hold a wave, so I layered several Moroccanoil argan-oil infused products to give the hair a really nice healthy shine but to hold the style as well."

The Step-by-Step to create the look:

1) I first shampooed her hair with Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo followed by Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner. Next, I applied a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment on her wet hair, then mixed a cocktail of Moroccanoil Treatment with a pea-sized amount of Morocccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and worked it through from root to ends to give the hair shine, strength, and a soft hold.

2) I dried the hair using a diffuser to encourage natural waves, lifting the hair at the roots. I also added a bit more Moroccanoil Treatment after I dried the hair. This product is fantastic because I can keep using more and more of it and it absorbs right in.

3) Next, I went lightly over some of the curls with a large curling iron to give them more definition. I wanted the hair to look natural and only curled the areas where the hair needed to be filled in. I then raked my fingers through the hair to break up and separate the curls.

4) I then sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray all over the hair. It's my favorite hairspray. It holds the look but you can't see it on the hair. It comes out in really fine mist and you can put more and more on without it getting sticky.

5) I finished the look with a soft mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray so the hair looked even more luminous onstage. It's weightless like all the Moroccanoil products and gave the look a perfect finishing touch.

Fabulousness…now in pencil form! Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner (review)

Whoa, man! My weekly horoscope is awesome (rock on with your astrological self, Rob Breszny)! Take a look (Leo's pay special attention):

"…Now that you Leos are in the "anything goes" phase of your astrological cycle, this full-permission part of me is rising to the forefront, eager to encourage you to go for broke, take it to the limit, and get away with everything you can get away with -- on one condition, which is that it doesn't harm anyone, including you."

Oooh! Anything goes? I repeat: Oooh! And I'm perfectly willing to accept the "no harm" portion.

I'm also thrilled that this came along just in time to justify a recent purchase I made. As part of my (then unknown) "go for broke" behavior, I bought a new, yummy thing from Stila.

NEW Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner (in silverdollar)

Blurb: Obsessed for Smudge Pots? You'll go crazy for Smudge Sticks! This highly pigmented, waterproof eye liner glides on to deliver intense, vibrant color with staying power. These easy to apply, eye liners have it all: Long Lasting, Waterproof, Easy to apply, Several shimmer intense shades to make eyes stand out, Vibrant colors, Self sharpening propel pencil. Shades: stingray- Black, lionfish- Brown with Shimmer, purple tang- Purple with Shimmer, moray- Olive with Shimmer, koi- Metallic Gold, silverdollar- Metallic Silver, peacock- Cobalt Blue, blue ribbon- Navy Grey

So this was a tough one. Since I'm an eyeliner aficionado (spelled: j-u-n-k-i-e), I already have a whole lotta eyeliners sitting on my vanity. And I didn't have a whole lotta money sitting in my bank account. But what could possibly be better than a Stila Smudge Pot? I know – a Smudge Pot in portable, adorable, pencil form!

But still – how could I possibly justify buying another eyeliner? Well, the helpful salesguy at Sephora solved that problem when he…showed me a pencil in a color that I didn't have. Yes. It turns out I have somehow managed to not have a shiny silver eyeliner. Problem solved…ka-CHING!

I'm telling you this story because there's no reason for you not to have already guessed that I love these new liners! It really is the fabulous, smooth, creamy, Smudge Pot formula in stick form (and new colors). It glides on without tugging, looks beautiful, blends nicely, then sets to long lasting, budge-proof, waterproof loveliness. This shade is especially pretty. Silverdollar is a frosty, cool, flattering silver. Great for brightening the inside corners or dramatically lining the entire eye. I even tried it as a shadow and got a spectacular look! I strongly suggest running out this minute and getting one (well, at least those of you who are Leos).

If you want to browse the other colors, check out the website. And if you really want to "go for broke," take a look at the Summer Must Haves page. Mmmm. Stila is also sold at Beauty.com. And if you can't possibly wait for the postman to bring you your Smudge Stick, head on over to Sephora or Ulta.

Happy Wednesday!

Quick and Perky: Liz Earle Energising Body Scrub (review)

Since yesterday's post was a tad…extensive; I thought I'd keep things perky today. I seem to have a whole lot of energy this week – which I hope continues into the holiday weekend. But just in case you happen to be feeling a little weary, here's a fine bit of pep from Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare.

Energising Body Scrub

Blurb: This uplifting, invigorating and refreshingly scented Body Scrub exfoliates and cleanses, leaving your skin renewed, revitalised and super-smooth. "Energising Body Scrub is a fabulous addition to our skin nurturing body care. Regular use (especially with our Energising Hip and Thigh Gel) swiftly makes legs look smooth and silky - perfect timing for the season ahead." Containing ground olive stones, it gently buffs away dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin, in an instant. A unique blend of 9 pure essential oils: sweet orange, grapefruit, geranium, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, patchouli and petitgrain is combined with damask rose water to leave you feeling stimulated and energised.

This is a fabulous company - and a fabulous gentle scrub! It's a foaming scrub, which means it works up into a bit of fluffy frothy lather while it exfoliates. The ground olive stones give a gentle (not scratchy) sloughing. It feels amazing, and the fragrance is unbelievable. In my opinion, the fragrance alone is reason enough to use it. The peppermint, citrus, pine and rosemary combine into a fresh, stimulating scent (I also think this fragrance would be fine for either a man or woman). I absolutely love using this in the morning – and coming out of the shower with baby soft skin.

Check out the website if you want to see all the Energising Range products. You may also want to take a look at the Summer Offer page (right now you can receive a free Superskin Concentrate 0.3 fl.oz worth $34.00 when you buy your 3 daily essentials.).

Happy Tuesday!

Beauty Appointment with Dell Ashley: YSL Extravaganza (review, tips and general euphoria)

Let’s start the week with a bonanza of beauty! If you’ve been faithfully reading and scrutinizing my blog (or at least skimming it when you’re supposed to be working); you may have seen a little heads up a while back about some amazing store events from Yves Saint Laurent (aka: YSL) Beauty. YSL national makeup artist, Dell Ashley is appearing all over the country right now to introduce some beautiful new looks, shades and products.

After posting about the event, I decided to make an appointment. It turns out Dell was going to be at my local Nordstrom (in King of Prussia) last Wednesday – and I had the day off. I went in the afternoon, and got to meet Dell and some of the other YSL experts. I feel really lucky. Dell is an incredibly talented and skilled artist (and a super nice guy). He not only made me look fabulous; he also explained everything and gave me some amazing tips! First the products…

Hydra Feel Water Gel Moisturizer

Blurb: A breakthrough from YSL Beauté Research. Drawing on sugar technology, this hydra-repleneshing moisturizer supports the skin's natural hydration mechanisms. Upon application, the skin is bathed with freshness. A refreshing, creamy gel that gives comfort to normal to combination skin.

Temps Majeur Eye Contour

Blurb: Extremely fine and silky, this complete eye contour treatment features a selection of high-performance active ingredients to regenerate, energize and enhance the eye area. Upon application, the eyes light up. The eye contour is smoothed and refreshed. Day after day, dark circles and puffiness fade away.

Top Secrets Pore Refiner (with Skincare Brush)

Blurb: A unique pore refining skincare brush for combination skin prone to imperfections. This targeted skincare product instantly reduces the look of enlarged pores and mattifies shine, making skin appear visibly smoother and more even. Skin quality is improved and ready for a flawless make-up application.

Teint Resist Long Wear Transfer Resistant Foundation (SPF 10)

Blurb: Guarantees unfailing wear and radiance for up to 14 hours. The luminous, transfer-resistant formula forms perfectly to the skin for a soft and seamless result. Pigments are specially coated for a color-true effect and the formula absorbs excess oil through the day, for a complexion which always looks and feels fresh.

Touche Éclat Radiant Touch

Blurb: Light, luminosity, radiance. The award winning, must-have, take anywhere instant highlighter that banishes shadows, erases signs of fatigue and leaves your skin looking radiant. Touche Éclat is 8 hours of sleep in a pen - the one item no woman can be without.

Ombre Solo Mono Eyeshadows

Blurb: Ombre Solo shades the eyelids with a matt, satiny or iridescent veil of endlessly adjustable and long-lasting colour. The exceptional smoothing effect reveals the radiance of the colours for a wonderfully luminous makeup.

Dessin Du Regard Crayon Yeux Haute Tenue Eye Pencils

Blurb: Updated with a new formula, with highly pigmented colour for a deep impact and long-lasting finish. The texture glides onto the skin effortlessly, and Jojoba Oil makes the finish on the skin smooth and comfortable. A wax adhesive acts as a fixing agent to reinforce the intensity of the pigment for hours.

Volume Effet Faux Cils Noir Radical Mascara

Blurb: The ultimate luxurious mascara for a false lash effect in our deepest black colour ever, for a dangerously glamourous look. NOIR RADICAL takes our must-have industry leading mascara, Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara, to a new depth with mineral pigments more intense than traditional iron oxide black pigments, to achieve the blackest black, deep and powerful.

Touche Blush

Blurb: A true beauty accessory, a makeup concept that transforms blush application into a moment of pure pleasure. The ingenious packaging is associated with an ultra-fine powder to provide a luminous and natural makeup result.

Dessin Des Lèvres Lip Liner

Blurb: A high precision and richly textured lip pencil to outline, re-define and colour the lips.

Rouge Pur Shine Sheer Lipstick (SPF 15)

Blurb: This shiny lipstick with exceptional gliding properties illuminates the lips with sparkling, transparent colours. The exclusive long golden cap opens in a "click" to reveal a delightful, hydrating texture that reshapes the lips while ensuring comfort and protection.

Gloss Pur Pure Lip Gloss

Blurb: Pure colour and high shine. YSL's newest lip gloss is everything you need to achieve an ultra-sophisticated every-day look. Based on YSL's top selling lip gloss, Golden Gloss, Gloss Pur delivers a sparkle-free beautiful and glossy sheen to the lips.

Amazing products and an amazing experience! Dell and everyone at Nordstrom were friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable (and their makeup was perfect). Every single one of the items Dell used was outstanding! I could easily do a separate post on each one; but part of the experience was getting to see how they all worked together for a total look.

The skincare standouts were the Hydra Feel Moisturizer and the Eye Contour. The moisturizer felt hydrating, yet light enough for warm wather. My skin instantly looked refreshed and soft. The Eye Contour was also excellent (Dell said it’s one of the most requested products). The soothing cream absorbed immediately, making the eye area look softer; and the fine reflective particles (mother of pearl) added brightness.

The Top Secrets Pore Refiner blew me away! In addition to the (stellar!) packaging, lovely feel and mattifying effect; it performed some kind of magic trick that made my pores run away and hide. I really couldn’t believe the difference. Dell applied the Foundation on top and the result was a flawless complexion. I’ve never seen my complexion look that polished. Ever. He highlighted here and there with the Touche Éclat and the total effect was near perfect skin. The look lasted through a long evening, and was still looking gorgeous when I got home that night.

Of course the major fun is in the color! Gorgeous colors and expert application equal fabulousness. And here’s one of the most useful hints I’ve ever gotten – Dell recommended contouring first using the pencil, then applying and blending shadow over the pencil contour. The result was really beautiful. The color was perfectly blended and shaped. And YSL shadows are pretty darn amazing. Velvety texture, saturated color, sophisticated shades and amazing staying power. The new Mascara was another awesome touch. It’s a deep, deep black, and I got a lush, black fringe.

The blush deserves a mention just for the packaging alone. The formula is excellent (a fine, blendable powder); but the brush container/applicator is both practical and adorable. I also loved the Lip Liner, the sheer Lipsticks (awesome for summer), and of course, the Gloss. Besides a glassy finish, Gloss Pur is one of the most comfortable, luscious glosses I’ve ever worn (and it has a yummy Mango fragrance).

In addition to a great look; I got a few fab tips from the expert himself:

1. Foundation: Use a blush brush to apply foundation. The brush glides across skin without tugging, and creates an airbrushed effect.
2. Bronzer: Use the side of a blush brush to apply bronzer, then use the tip to blend. Bronzer will go on more evenly over a larger surface (easier to do, and looks more natural).
3. Eyes (mentioned above): Use a pencil to draw on contours before applying shadow.
4. Lips: To “summer-ize” your beloved red lipsticks; use a sheer gloss to add a watery shine over the darker color.

YSL is always beautiful, luxurious and chic. And the amazing quality and attention to detail are very very French. I was thrilled that I got to try out so many things at once – and even more thrilled that I had a dinner to attend afterwards. I got tons of compliments; and I loved the way everything looked, felt and wore throughout the evening.

For more info (and to check out all the colors), visit the YSL website. You may also want to check out the Limited Editions and Online Exclusives pages. YSL offers free shipping on your first order. You can also find YSL at Sephora and fine department stores. (And Nordstrom.com is currently offering $5 shipping with any $50 beauty purchase (enter code: BEAUTY).

Hair Care Friday: Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair (review)

Hello everyone! The weekend is nearly upon us, and I’m off to have some fun.* It even looks like the weather will be cooperating. Imagine that! Since it’s not going to be rainy or blustery; I’m going to take advantage of the situation and give myself a nice blowout. And I’m going to use my latest and greatest find from Aveda.

Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair

Blurb: Our daily leave-in treatment instantly repairs damaged hair by 26%, helps protect from heat styling and detangles to help prevent further damage. Certified organically-derived quinoa protein penetrates hair to instantly repair damage and strengthen from the inside out. Wheat protein helps protect from heat styling—such as blow-drying and ironing. Soy-derived oil detangles to help prevent further damage and breakage. Certified organic essential oils including bergamot, mandarin and ylang ylang provide an uplifting aroma.

This Treatment just hit the stores a few weeks ago. But before that it was already wowing people during Fashion Week. I’m also pretty wowed.

This Treatment not only repairs and protects; it makes my hair feel (and look) fabulous. I used it with the flat iron, and before a blowout and got great results with both. It’s very light weight, smoothes on easily and doesn’t seem to leave any kind of residue or buildup. With the flat iron, it did a great job of smoothing without adding any weight. And when I used it before a blowout; I also got excellent smoothness without any heaviness or flyaways. Knowing it’s also good for my hair is a giant plus too!

The website has more info about the Treatement, and all of the other Damage Remedy Products. And right now, you can get a free sample of Damage Remedy™ Restructuring Shampoo plus free shipping with all orders over $80. And if you visit the website, be sure to check out the awesome Hairstyle Gallery. If you want to try out some of these items in person, take a look at the find a location page.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

*Giving in to my superstition: Just to be sure, let’s unjinx things - I will have a terrible time this weekend. Everyone will be bored and irritated…and my hair will look awful. There. All better.

Burtify Me! Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme (review and sweepstakes)

Sandal weather – Yay! Sandal feet - um…need attention.

Yup. It’s true. I’m going out of town for a bit and am planning to wear my very favorite shoes: the cutest red and white polka dot wedge sandals ever. So I need me some cute feet. Some cute soft feet. And after wearing sandals all week, that means a nice pedicure and some serious softening. And yet, this is not a problem. Thanks to Burt’s Bees.

Coconut Foot Creme

Blurb: Go nuts for incredibly soft feet. This pampering natural foot cream combines coconut oil, lanolin and vegetable glycerin to revive and rejuvenate even the driest, most neglected feet. There's also a hint of natural rosemary and peppermint oils to refresh tired feet. Apply liberally and allow the cream to fully absorb.

This is another one of those products where I don’t have to say much. But when I come across something this fabulous, I just need to go on a bit.

This is one of the best products around for anyone whose feet need a whole lot of TLC - it totally delivers! The combination of oils (coconut, olive, lanolin) soothe, soften, heal and lock in moisture. For a serious foot pampering; soak, exfoliate and then pat dry. Massage the creme into each foot, then cover with cotton socks overnight to seal in the hydration. You will wake up with gorgeously soft tootsies. The fragrance (coconut with a touch of peppermint) is soothing and luxurious too.

Now is a great time to visit their website. Moments and Memories: Strange Invisible Perfumes (review)

I’ve been wanting to write this review for days. I received some wonderful samples over the weekend, and was instantly smitten. I don’t have many opportunities to wear fragrance (a lot of people in my life are sensitive); so it was great that I had a weekend to try them out. Also great - I don’t have to work today, so I can experience them again as I type.

The two scents are from an amazing perfume house: Strange Invisible Perfumes. I was already in love with the name; and I also fell in love with the fact that they’re an all natural brand. Their scents are made with certified organic, biodynamic or wildcrafted essences. The fragrances are all designed, blended (by hand) and bottled in-house. They’re also committed to sustainability and the environment.

Fire and Cream (Eau de Parfum)

Blurb: Sinuous. Elegant. Ablaze. Hydro-distilled oranges & orange blossom, tuberose, frankincense, white lavender, vetiver, sandalwood & patchouli. Tuberose and white lavender light up the facets of vetiver, vanilla, and patchouli, while essences of hydro-distilled orange and orange blossom smolder in a fiery glow of top notes.

Essence of IX - Limited Edition (Pure Perfume)

Blurb: A limited edition pure perfume. Brambly. Floral. Stirring. White sage, roses, black currant, California lavender, French oak & wild honey. Inspired by Colgin Cellars' winery, the exquisite terroir of their Napa Valley vineyards, and the famed IX Estate (colgincellars.com).

So now I’m in love with these fragrances. And yes, I mean love. Scent is very personal. It goes straight to the part of your brain where memories and emotions are stored. A fragrance can send you immediately into the past or create a moment that will live on into the future.

Fire and Cream (which I tried first) was not at all what I expected. When I saw “orange blossom, vanilla, vetiver,” etc. I was expecting a fairly bright, possibly fruity scent. Instead I got something much better. The notes of orange and vanilla are there, but they work as part of an amazing – kind of intoxicating – combination. It’s musky, dark, slightly sweet, slightly grassy and very feminine (but not girly). After about 20 minutes, the sweeter notes come through and then it’s just heavenly. This scent is as complex (and as simple) as a springtime field in the warm sunshine. In fact it brought me right back to a field in Sonoma that I visited in June of 2001. Flowers, earth, grass and warm sunshine…yum.

Essence of IX was like the flip side of the same coin. Another warm, earthy scent; but definitely more modern and sophisticated. At first, a lot of the lavender comes through in a way that’s very clean and sharp (the good kind). The herbal notes are also very present. It’s a really heady combination in the beginning. As the top notes fade, more of the floral notes start to emerge – especially the rose. The herbal and lavender notes are still there, but as the rose becomes more present, combination is just beautiful. It’s rich, soft, lovely, warm and romantic, yet still very elegant.

Natural perfumes are the way things “used to be.” Before synthetic ingredients and mass-production, scents were hand made from things that came right from the earth. When I tried these fragrances, there was a part of me that knew I had just inhaled “the real thing.”

The website has even more information about how the fragrances are crafted, the ingredients, notes on botanical perfumery, and the company’s commitment to natural processes and sustainability. If you’re a Southern Californian, you may want to take a trip to Venice and visit their Boutique.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm Glowing! Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer (review)

Yes, I already know that was a fairly cheesy tie-in. But I really am glowing. I have a nice long weekend coming up. A nice long weekend with super fun plans! With super fun people! My glow comes from happiness and anticipation.

Of course, this glow is only visible on my smiling face. No matter how happy I am; my ghostly legs refuse to glow naturally. They are the palest white no matter what. Unless…they get a little help from the drugstore. The drugstore and the folks at Jergens.

Jergens® natural glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer

Blurb: New! Revitalizing! Gradually creates natural-looking color. Antioxidant and Vitamin E formula keeps skin looking healthy & glowing twice as long. Moisturize into an invigorated glow. Jergens® natural glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer delivers fabulous natural-looking color gradually that lasts twice as long as the leading lotion sunless tanner and infuses your skin with a blend of effective moisturizers, antioxidants and Vitamin E to keep it looking healthy.

I just got a chance to test this out, and it's a winner! It's designed especially for fair/medium and medium/tan skin; so it's perfect for people like me. As soon as the weather gets warm, I take out my sandals and put anything resembling hosiery away – which renders my untanned legs visible to the general public.

This tanner/moisturizer works and it's super budget friendly. I used it daily and it gradually built up a nice, healthy glow. And it combines the natural-looking color with a great moisturizer. For best results, you'll need to do the usual self-tanning things: make sure to shower, shave and exfoliate before applying, rub it in evenly, go easy on the knees and ankles, and be sure to wash your hands when you're finished. I did this and got great results - soft skin right away, and nice color in only 4 days.

If you want to know more about the Natural Glow line, check out the website (there's even a Glow Advisor to help you find products). You should also take a look at the Promotions page for samples, coupons, events and tips. You can find Jergens at grocery stores, drugstores and a whole slew of online retailers.

Happy Tuesday!

Great Find! Sephora Limited Edition Magic Lip Gloss Palette (review)

Every now and then when I'm in Sephora, some pretty thing from the Sephora brand catches my eye and I have to have it. And each time I've brought something home, I've been a happy camper. Here's another good one.

Limited Edition Magic Lip Gloss Palette

Blurb: A six-shade array of glittering glosses. Perfect your pout with this versatile ensemble. It makes a pretty present for your favorite glam girl, and yourself! This set contains an application brush and 6 glosses in Brown, Gold, Silver, Pink, Cherry, and Berry.

This was sitting in those little bins where you line up to pay for purchases. It's definitely an impulse item. And I impulsively bought one because the line was long and I had plenty of time to realize it was just too adorable to pass up. Normally, I'd shake my fist at such nefarious marketing strategies; but my fist has been busy applying gloss to my lips.

I love this palette – and it's TEN DOLLARS. For all six shades. For all six shades, a little brush and a case with a mirror. There's a generous amount of each color and the whole thing snaps shut and fits ever so perfectly in even the tiniest of bags. Or a little pocket. Or the glove compartment, desk drawer, cell phone case, etc. The formula is long wearing and the colors are pretty and versatile. What I especially love is that a sheer Silver and a sheer Gold are included – they look great layered over just about anything. A couple of times I've left the house wearing a matte lip stain, and then just touched up with a bit of silver or gold throughout the evening.

This is one of those thoroughly useful, fun splurges for your pocketbook (that won't create too much of a dent in said pocketbook). They also make thoughtful little gifts.

If you tell me you've never visited the Sephora website, I won't believe you. There's always a great reason to visit – but be sure to check out the Weekly Specials and the sale section.

Happy Monday!

Read all about it! Smashbox and Estée Lauder…

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. To Acquire Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc.

Premier Photo Studio-Inspired, Hollywood Cosmetics Brand To Enhance Company’s Portfolio, Widen Prestige Channel Distribution, Extend Digital Expertise and Offer Global Expansion Opportunities

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE: EL) announced today that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc., a privately held, photo studio-inspired prestige cosmetics company based in Los Angeles, California. The acquisition is expected to close in July 2010, subject to certain conditions, including regulatory approval. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Company said that the transaction is expected to be accretive to earnings in fiscal year 2011, before transaction and integration costs.

The Smashbox brand, with its unique equity positioning, is a strategic complement to The Estée Lauder Companies’ portfolio of leading prestige cosmetic brands. Smashbox’s significant presence in assisted open-sell environments and specialty distribution channels will expand The Estée Lauder Companies’ product offerings and reach new and younger consumers in these high-growth prestige channels. Additionally, The Estée Lauder Companies will leverage its extensive international experience as it seeks to grow the brand and engage Smashbox’s expertise in digital and social media to advance its current capabilities, an important and growing competency for the Company.

Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics was founded in 1996 by brothers Dean and Davis Factor, great-grandsons of the makeup legend Max Factor, who were inspired by photo studio celebrities to create a unique makeup brand that met the highly demanding needs of a professional photo shoot. Since that time, Smashbox has established itself as a highly successful prestige cosmetics brand and a top performer in specialty channels. Currently, the majority of Smashbox’s sales are based in North America.

William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman of The Estée Lauder Companies, said, “One of the enduring strengths of The Estée Lauder Companies is our ability to identify brands with unique positioning and nurture those brands to accelerate their momentum and realize their full growth potential. The addition of Smashbox to our portfolio continues this 64-year legacy. We expect that with our strong cultural synergies and shared appreciation for family heritage, this will be a wonderful union.”

“Smashbox, like The Estée Lauder Companies, is a creativity-driven, consumer-inspired organization with great talent,” said Fabrizio Freda, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies. “Adding Smashbox to our portfolio of brands will help strengthen our presence in prestige specialty channels worldwide, increase our product offerings in this important category and enhance our capabilities in digital media and direct response television. We are energized by the promising momentum of Smashbox and believe the brand will help attract new and younger consumers to The Estée Lauder Companies all over the world.”

“The Estée Lauder Companies is the ideal home for Smashbox,” said Dean Factor, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc. “The Company possesses the scale and vision to help transition Smashbox into its next phase of growth, and its track record of nurturing and growing prestige brands is second to none. Moreover, we share a similar cultural heritage and dedication to consumer-inspired innovation and creativity. We expect to benefit greatly from The Estée Lauder Companies’ extensive knowledge in product development, operational execution, and international marketing and distribution, and we look forward to the next great period of growth for the brand.”

“Smashbox is the leading Hollywood photo studio-inspired cosmetics brand with a devoted following and timeless appeal,” said John Demsey, Estée Lauder Companies’ Group President, responsible for the Estée Lauder, M•A•C, Tom Ford, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone, La Mer brands and after closing, Smashbox. “We are excited to be acquiring a uniquely positioned cosmetics brand with true talent well known for engaging consumers across prestige channels and in the digital media space. Smashbox fits perfectly within our DNA, and we look forward to continuing to delight our consumers together.”

The Estée Lauder Companies will collaborate with the Smashbox organization to develop a comprehensive integration plan to transition Smashbox into The Estee Lauder Companies’ family after closing. Dean Factor, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Davis Factor, co-founder, Chief Creative Office and celebrity photographer, and Budd Taylor, President, will each play key roles with respect to these activities and the continued success of Smashbox. Smashbox will continue operating out of its Los Angeles, California office.

The forward-looking statements in this press release, including those in the quoted remarks and those relating to the expectations for closing the acquisition, the impact on the Company’s financial results and the benefits of the acquisition, involve risks and uncertainties.
