Post Holiday Plumpness: Erno Laszlo TranspHuse Lip PHixative (review)

I'm briefly interrupting your Cyber Monday to talk about the good kind of post-holiday plumpness. Maybe if I write about the "good" kind; I can stop feeling guilty about the possible "bad" kind of plumpness that may or may not be a result of too much…um…thankfulness last Thursday.

Today's guilt camouflaging purveyor of plumpness is brought to you (and me) by Erno Laszlo.

TranspHuse Lip pHixative

Blurb: Lip plumper for all skin types. This treatment softens fine lip lines with dermaxyl peptide complex and plumps your pout with marine filling spheres. Optical diffusers create a smooth look. Dermaxyl, a powerful peptide complex, minimizes lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Potent antioxidants protect against environmental aggressors and free radicals that destroy skin's collagen network. Restores moisture and provides a protective barrier to keep mouth moist and supple.

This plumper (excuse me, pHixative) is really different. For one thing, it felt almost like a balm. I did get plumping action; but what really impressed me was the fact that my lips stayed very soft. I felt some tingling, but there was no dry or tight feeling at all! The overall effect was of fuller, softer lips. (Have to say, I also loved the rollerball packaging…very convenient).

The pHixative can be found on the EL website. The site also has a fun free skin analysis (aka The Laszlomatic) as well as a page of Gift Ideas. And if you want to try it out "live," you can head to a department store like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman or Dillards.

Happy Monday (still feelin grateful btw)!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I won’t be posting again until Monday, so I’d like to wish everyone a beautiful, joyous (and drama-free) holiday.

Even though it feels like things have been a slightly chaotic mess, I know that I have so much to be grateful for. When I think about it for more than five minutes; I realize that the aggravation, chaos and worry of life only mean that I’m alive and participating in the world. And the joy, love and discovery that comes with all the craziness is priceless.

Even though things aren’t always the way I’d like them to be; I think I do have enough sense to appreciate all of the wonderful people and circumstances that bless my life every day. I’m grateful for my health, my family, my friends and the divine interventions that bring more happiness to my life than I ever imagined.

I’m also deeply grateful to all of you who take a bit of time to share my crazed beauty ramblings.

I wish you peace, love and days packed with joyful moments.

Super Stellar! Dr. Denese SPF 30 Defense Day Cream (review)

I have managed to go for weeks now without mentioning why you should always-absolutely-no-matter-what use sunscreen. But I feel that I just need to step in before the long holiday weekend. Some of you may be doing rugged outdoor things like skiing, hiking or shopping in outdoor malls; and I would never forgive myself if I didn't remind you how important it is to have some protection during daylight hours.

Also, I found this thoroughly, rad, awesome, fab sunscreen from Dr. Denese Skincare.

SPF 30 Defense Day Cream

Blurb: An innovative day cream that, if worn every day on the face and eyelids, delivers important SPF 30 UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection to help prevent wrinkles, lines, and age spots. It is naturally tinted with self-adjusting melanin technology for instant, sheer coverage that's flawless, hydrated, and even. Instead of being chalky, thick, or white, this cream is hydrating and lightly tinted with melanin for a natural, self-adjusting finish that leaves skin even and flawless. Pleasant to wear, this innovative formula delivers SPF 30 UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection to the most vulnerable areas of the face.

Love, love, love, love, love! I have tried a lot of sunscreens and this one still managed to get my attention big time. It's zinc oxide based (my favorite broad spectrum kind of protection), oil free, hydrating and non-irritating. It also comes in a very handy variety of sizes (a 2oz. jar or bag friendly 1.5oz. or 4oz. tube).

What makes this sunscreen particularly awesome is the texture and tint. The consistency is thick, but it glides on beautifully and covers evenly and thoroughly. And the feel is soft and velvety without being greasy. And (I hope you're sitting down) there is absolutely no white cast. It's slightly tinted (almost like a tinted moisturizer), but the tint changes once it's on and matches your skin. Really, it does. This not only protects my face, but makes my complexion look smoother and more even. It also sits well under foundation (some of you may find you can even skip the foundation with this on).

This is not the first time that Dr. Denese has wowed me. (It is the third time*, if you're counting). I want to try every single thing they have now. Check out their website. In addition to their skincare, they also have beauty supplements, fragrance and makeup. You can even sign up to be a member of the Beauty Junkie Club.

*Feel free to read my earlier review of their thoroughly awesome HydroShield Tinted Moisturizer and SPF 30 Defense Eye Cream.

The Inside Story: Three Items from La Mer’s Holiday Offerings (review)

Ooooh, Deluxe, Luxurious La Mer! About a week or two ago, I featured some of the awesome La Mer Holiday Offerings. A few of these collections (The Connoisseur Collection, The Signature Collection and Legendary Luxury) contain three of La Mer's signature products, so I thought I'd take a look at them today.

Crème de la Mer

Blurb: The legendary Crème that has inspired a cult following. Even now, it is not entirely clear how Crème de la Mer works. For us schooled in logic, it is something of a jolt to the imagination. But facts are facts and certainly the proof can be seen on the faces of those who use it. In a short time, skin becomes softer, firmer, looks virtually creaseless. Aging lines and pores are noticeably less visible. Even the driest of complexions are healed. Sensitivities are soothed. And, of course, there are some who insist it has produced astonishing results - as Dr. Max Huber witnessed. No wonder many who have tried every cream available remain steadfast in their devotion to Crème de la Mer.

I don't even know what I can add to the blurb. Crème de la Mer has become almost iconic in the beauty world. It's just an amazing moisturizer. Super, super hydrating, soothing, smoothing and is absolutely fine for my breakout-prone skin. There's a reason everyone raves about this cream!

The Lifting Face Serum

Blurb: At the heart of The Lifting Face Serum is a rare blue algae that flourishes in pristine waters fed by ancient glacial waters and underground springs. Its exceptional lifting energies come to life as it journeys through a meticulous bio-fermentation process, boosting its efficacy far beyond anything previously imagined. A network of proteins within the Blue Algae Lift Ferment stimulates skin's own internal building blocks while other proteins help prevent their premature breakdown. Skin's ability to renew itself is greatly enhanced. A youthful smoothness and bounce are tremendously restored.

This is a lovely serum. It feels healing and soothing without being heavy. I also like the slight firming feeling I get after it sinks in. I even get little bit of a glow! I haven't used this long term, but the results after a few days have been delightful.

The Eye Concentrate

Blurb: Ultraluxe eye treatment that dissolves the appearance of lines and wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. This concentrated, ultraluxe eye treatment quenches and conditions impressionable skin. The Eye Concentrate significantly reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, lines and wrinkles, encouraging the eye area to look and feel healthy, supple and luminous as never before. The Eye Concentrate is infused with three unique forms of Miracle Broth™: the original, a concentrated form and a new, encapsulated form designed to optimize continuous release to the skin. Known for its healing energies, the Miracle Broth™ infuses skin with the energy it needs to focus on renewal.

I love the Eye Concentrate! Especially now. Due to dry air and heaters; my eyes are really dry and puffy when I wake up. The cream melts into my skin and stays there all day. What I also like is that I can dab a little on in the evening if I'm going somewhere to "freshen" things up a little. Since it sinks in so quickly, I can touch up my makeup right away.

These three items are all sold separately too. You can find them on the website, and at fine stores like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Sharon Stone: Frederic Fekkai SoHo’s Andre Rodman transformed the tresses of Sharon Stone.

Inspiration: Sixties chic to match her vintage inspired Dior Dress

How to Get the Look: For David Letterman, Andre Rodman for Frederic Fekkai did a simple blowout using the Fekkai Extra Large Round Brush to get a stick straight bob. He parted the hair in the middle to frame her face, with a few wispy bangs falling to the front of her face. He created body and fullness at the crown using the Fekkai Full Blown Volume Spray. Finally, he finished the blow dry using Fekkai Top Coat Serum to finish the look.

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel: Frederic Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel, Created Enchanting Red Carpet Looks Hollywood’s Hottest Stars This Week.

Kate Beckinsale at the 30th Anniversary of MOCA
The Look: an edgy take to the timeless up-do

Abergel started by blow drying the hair with a Fekkai Large Round Brush applying Fekkai Full Blown Volume™ Lifting Hairspray at the roots to create some height for the updo. After blow drying, he let the hair cool around rollers in order to maximize volume. He then combed the top of the hair with a fine tooth comb to add height. After that, he polished the sides of the hair using Fekkai Coiff™ Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax, pulling the hair into a tight ponytail just above the ear line. Finally, he twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around an elastic band forming a doughnut shape and pinned the pony into place. To secure the look, Abergel sprayed the hair with Femme Fekkai Sensuelle Hair Spray.

Jessica Biel at the Planet 51 premiere in LA
The Look: A fun, loose ponytail with lots of movement

How to get the look: Adir started by spraying Fekkai Coiff™ Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel from the roots to the ends of the hair. He then used his hands to tousle her hair until it was completely dry. Once dried, he used a large barrel curling iron and curled the hair from the roots down. In order to achieve the textured look, Abergel sprayed a little Fekkai Coiff™ Océanique Tousled Wave Spray. After, he backcombed the crown using a fine tooth comb and tied a loose ponytail leaving some front pieces to frame the front of her face. To finish the look, Adir added Fekkai Sheer Hold® Hairspray.

Monday Stylin': Jesica Lowndes and Biolustre

More from the Hair Scene. Celebrity stylist, Theodore Leaf, created an amazing look for 90210 star Jessica Lowndes’ 21st birthday party. That is some awesome looking hair! Before styling, he prepared her hair with Biolustré, a 4-step hair repair treatment. You can read my rave review right here. Or if you’ve already read my review, start reading this…

Celebrity Stylist Theodore Leaf Tends the Tresses of 90210 Star Jessica Lowndes with BIOLUSTRÉ before her 21st Birthday Bash

Jessica Lowndes at her 21st Birthday Party
November 7 – The Roosevelt Hotel, Hollywood CA

The Look: A glamorous, “showgirl” up-do inspired by Moulin Rouge

To restore healthy shine to her hair and prepare for styling, Jessica used Biolustré’s intense 4-step repair system:

- Release Cleansing Shampoo: A gentle, low PH cleansing shampoo designed to remove excess oils and product build-up.

- Revive Repair Treatment: A unique formula clinically proven to repair hair to a near virgin condition, restoring softness, shine and strength.

- Restore Maintenance Treatment Shampoo: An innovative formula containing Biolustré's exclusive Lustreloc Technology, which delivers low levels of polymers to provide added strength and shine to hair.

- Renew Daily Conditioning Sealant: A lightweight conditioner formulated with ingredients including mint and tea tree oil for a soothing sensation. Renew is designed to help smooth the hair cuticle and seal in moisture.

One her hair was treated, Theodore Leaf created her style by blow drying the hair with a large round brush, applying a lifting spray at the roots to create some height for the updo. After blow drying, he loosely pinned back sections of curls to maximize body and volume. He then combed the top of the hair with a fine tooth comb to add height. After that, he gently teased at the roots and finished with putty to set the style. Front pieces were pinned back with a festive hair clip.

Monday Learning Time: Excellent Application Info from Girlactik Beauty

Just got these tips frm Galit Strugano at Girlactik Beauty. Finally - the answer to the age old fingers vs. brushes question (The answer is: either/both). Now my friends and I can stop arguing about this and start squabbling over more important things (like vampire hotness vs. werewolf hotness). Start reading these fab tips…

Makeup and Finger Pressure Points

To use your fingers or brushes when applying makeup? The answer to this question is simple: it’s a matter of preference! Both methods can be equally effective depending on what you are most comfortable with (or depending on whether you have brushes on hand). Galit Strugano, creator of Girlactik Beauty makeup and celeb makeup artist explains the techniques of applying makeup with your fingers and applying with tools to achieve the perfect makeup look (www.girlactik.com.)

Finger Application: Mind your pressure points!

Each of your fingers has a different pressure point affecting the pressure of touch. Knowing them can be useful in applying makeup. A bonus with finger application is the oils and heat from your skin melts the product better when it transfers to your skin and provides the coverage you want!

Ring finger for Concealer - Applying concealer with your ring finger gives a soft touch around the eye area with no pulling of the skin. The ringer finger pats product perfectly.

Index finger for Shadow Application - This finger possesses a little more pressure making shadow spread evenly but still has that soft touch.

Middle finger for Eye Crease - The middle finger has the most pressure so it is perfect to use to frame your eye, creating definition as you move your finger back and forth.

Pinkie for Inner Eye – Your smallest digit is perfect to apply makeup to those hard to reach parts. Great when applying an eye brightener or when you want to highlight. Your pinkie has a light touch so you won’t accidentally glob on makeup when you’re trying to be precise!

Brush Application: It’s all about the texture!

When it comes to brushes, it isn’t about synthetic vs. natural but rather the firmness of the brush that affects your makeup look. A rule of thumb:

- The firmer the brush, the more color transfer you'll have.
- The lighter the brush, the lighter the color transfer will be.

Think about it this way. You can be using the same exact blush and end up with 2 different colors depending on whether you are using a firmer or lighter brush. Switching up brushes is a great way to use your makeup in fun, different ways!

Holiday Radness from LUSH: Sexy Boy, Satsumo Santa, and Santa’s Rice Porridge (review)

Holiday? Oh yeah, LUSH has your holiday right here! I just finished checking out three of the zillions of items they are offering right now: A gingerbread boy massage bar, a Santa bath bomb and the funnest face mask ever (made with cranberries).

Sexy Boy Massage Bar

Blurb: This little man melts onto your body with moisturizing cocoa and shea butters and extra virgin coconut oil to give your skin a glow (he tends to leads to other things that leave you glowing too). He smells of warming chocolate and envigorating lime oil to put you in the mood for romance. Although he may not look sexy (he is a gingerbread man after all), give him a chance by rubbing him onto your partner and he'll bring sexy to your back.

I absolutely had to try this! I love LUSH massage bars and this one is right up there with the best of them. If you actually have a sexy boy to try this out on, all the better. Both of you will appreciate the very subtle chocolate fragrance. It’s sensuous without being perfumey. And the oils and butters leave skin, soft, soft, soft!

Satsumo Santa Bath Bomb

Blurb: Last year Simon Constantine (co-head-perfumer) created the gorgeous scent for our decadent Chocolate Santa. This year, Santa's back and he's SUMO sized! Simon created a new lovely and refreshing citrus fruit blend with manadarin oil, bergamot oil and orange blossom absolute. When the holiday season has gotten you all stressed out and tired, grab a Satsumo Santa and drop him into the tub with you. The smile-inducing orange flower scents will rise up from the water to lift your seasonal spirits and get you excited to finish up with the rest of your holiday chores.

I am so stoked (dude) that LUSH has combined holiday and citrus! The bomb is, well…da bomb. And it’s shaped like a very round little Sumo-Santa. This is such an adorable bath bomb. It fizzed and then turned the water a pretty, girly pink color that gave off a very faint tangerine/bergamot fragrance. And the moisturizing agents softened my skin and kept it soft all day long.

Santa's Rice Porridge Fresh Face Mask

Blurb: Fruity nutrition for your face, reviving tired, stressed skin on the run up to Christmas Day. Look your best with a bowl of Santa's Rice Porridge. He won't mind, honestly.

This is basically a clay mask with tons of additional nourishing and softening ingredients. (And I should point out that even though it’s a clay mask, it’s extremely rich - keep this in mind if you have oily or breakout-prone skin). That said, this mask is massively fun to use. It’s like being a little kid. After it’s been chilled, it’s a fabulous, grainy, clumpy oatmeal-like texture (with cranberries too!). I spread it all over my face and laughed for almost the whole 10 minutes that I left it on. I stopped laughing after I rinsed though. I believe I said something like, “ooooh.” My skin was super soft and glowing.

These are all amazing gifts and stocking stuffers. (And each is under $10!) Check out the website for more gift/get ideas (I suggest you push the Christmas button). You can also sign up to receive the LUSH Times Catalogue while you’re there.

Happy Weekend!

Give/Get/Have/Use: Fab Stuff from The Soap and Paper Factory (review)

This just in: The holidays are coming.

This also just in: I have not done one single holiday thing yet. So far I have managed to write about the holidays, make holiday gift suggestions, and browse holiday items; but I have not done one smidgen of actual preparation.

But since it's Friday, I have vowed to start some kind of holiday stuff this very night. First, I'm going to start learning the holiday music that I'm supposed to be singing next week. Then I'm also going get the ball rolling by setting out some fab items from The Soap and Paper Factory.

Room Spray (in Roland Pine)

Blurb: mmmmm! Never will you smell a room spray like Roland! You will literally feel as though you are in a pine forest in Heaven! Enjoy!

I love this fragrance for the holidays! It smells exactly like a winter pine forest. It's clean, fresh and really festive. A fresh pine scent is also great because it's kind of "gender neutral." Since it's neither manly or girly, it works for both.

Soy Candle (in Geranium)

Blurb: Natural and pure, enjoy the luxe Soap and Paper Factory soy candle. Clean burning, beautifully scented and "green"!

Soy candles are the bomb! They burn clean and there's no sootiness. Geranium is a gorgeous and sophisticated fragrance. Really versatile and great for almost any occasion.

Aromatic Room Diffuser (in Gardenia)

Blurb: NEW!! Finally, a diffuser! Surround your envioment with our lovely fragrances! Our petite diffusers are oil based, biodegradable and phthalate free! Get one for every room!

I love this for everyday -- especially during cold months when the windows are closed and the air needs a bit of fragrance assistance. A diffuser is no muss, no fuss (and no flame); and works especially well when the heat is on. The Gardenia scent is subtle (but still kind of sexy and tropical). This is also an excellent hostess gift.

Shea Butter Soaps (in Roland Pine and Jasmine)

Blurb: Hooray! By popular demand, a smaller bar of soap! All natural ingredients and shea butter makes this bar of soap a skin softening extravaganza! All we are thinking here is soft, supple skin! We're so excited to introduce this bar with our new logo!! Check it out and remember, Never Shower Alone!

I know these aren't room fragrances or anything, but I'm putting out a bar of Roland Pine soap for my guests this season (again, the pine scent works for both men and women). And the Jasmine (Jasmine!) soap is all for me. These all natural soaps are loaded with shea butter. They clean well and make skin buttery soft.

The Soap and Paper Factory website has an amazing assortment of gorgeous things to give (or keep). Bath and Body products, solid perfumes, room fragrances, note cards, thank you notes and scented drawer liners are just a few. You can also visit Gift Factory and find out how to have custom gifts created.

Happy Friday!

You Glow, Girl! Smashbox Baked Fusion Soft Lights (review)

I hope you're sitting down. I have a confession to make. I can't think of a single cheesy tie-in for this lovely product I'm reviewing today from smashbox. Nope, not one.

Baked Fusion Soft Lights (in Starburst)

Blurb: Get a gorgeous lit-from-within glow with this radiant silk-like powder. The innovative baked formula imparts a soft veil of shimmer and keeps your skin looking luminous all day. Winner of Self Magazine’s Healthy Beauty Award for Best Bronzer.

This reminds me a bit of their quad (Aglow) that I used to love. But this is even better. It's a very fine, silky smooth powder. The colors in "Starburst" are a mix of gold, champagne, bronze, tan and peach; and will probably work with any complexion (The other one, "Stardust," leans towards pinks and ivories).

I swooshed big powder brush over all of the colors and then applied. What I got was a beautiful, subtle shimmery glow. I love that the look is pretty and versatile. It looked great on my face; but also looked pretty on shoulders, collarbone and/or décolletage. Great for a holiday look too (especially if you're going strapless). And since it's a powder, you can carry it in your bag and easily reapply (or go from day to evening).

The smashbox website has tons of stuff going on right now. Visit the offers page, and be sure to check out the curtain call section for special deals. You can also find smashbox at Sephora, QVC and Nordstrom.

You Should Get This: Dr. Brandt pores no more® pore refiner

I have been meaning to review a primer for a while now. I'm a fairly recent convert to them, but a convert nonetheless. This one is from Dr. Brandt Skincare.

pores no more® pore refiner

Blurb: pores no more® pore refiner, formulated with microspheres and flaxseed extract minimizes pores, absorbs oil and mattifies shine. pores no more® pore refiner smoothes and evens skin’s texture providing a matte finish with or without makeup.

I tried out pores no more® because of the name. Anything that promises to diminish my gigantic pores (okay, not gigantic…but not invisible either) is definitely going to get my attention. And I'm glad. This primer/refiner/whatever is beyond fabulous! It glides on, and dries immediately to an ultra smooth, ultra matte, very slightly tinted finish. I can't even believe how much smoother and prettier my skin looks when I use it. My complexion looks…dare I say it?...refined. (And it follows that my foundation looks that much better.)

I'm now checking out the website and looking at all the other goodies that might be next on my list. Dr. Brandt is also available at Sephora, and Beauty.com.

Soothed At Last: Rodial Crème de la Crème (review)

So far, last night and today have been downright serene. After all the running around, worry, and re-arranging; it seems like this week is going to be pleasantly drama-free. Doesn't it seem like this would be a good day to talk about a lovely, soothing product from Rodial?

Crème de la Crème

Blurb: With shea butter and vitamin E. Rich and nourishing body moisturizer. Helps firm, hydrate and restore skin’s elasticity. Instantly absorbed, it gives a long lasting hydration. Calms irritation or reaction caused by sun, cold and wind.

This is an incredible product for winter. I got to give it a really good test the other day when I forgot to bring moisturizer to the gym. I was in the pool, then a hot shower, then the sauna, and then I ran some errands. By the time I got home, my skin felt horrible. Dry, tight and itchy. I decided to give the Crème de la Crème a try and was amazed at how fabulously (and quickly) it worked. It was rich, creamy and soothing, and then absorbed almost immediately. Within seconds, my skin felt great! Soft, hydrated and completely calmed. And it stayed that way for the rest of the afternoon and evening. I'm thinking I might get a bottle of this just to keep in the car.

If you haven't checked out the website; it's a lot of fun. There's a great page of celeb secrets as well as some great values on the sale page.

I wish you a calm and pleasant Tuesday.

Fix It: Miss Oops Survival Kit (review)

Oh, how much more fitting can it be that I am writing about Miss Oops today? I just made one heck of a giant "oops" and now feel like a great big dork. I won't go into details; but the short version is that I assumed something, told a certain guy something, realized I assumed the wrong thing and had to call said guy and have an embarrassing conversation.

Oops.

Because there are no beauty products to combat my dorkiness; I'll just have to learn to accept that I'm going to do something really mortifying every now and then. But for other little beauty "mishaps," here's an awesome little thing that you can actually buy.

Miss Oops Survival Kit

Blurb: Miss Oops Survival Kit has got you covered, head to toe! Each cute little kit comes with a Miss Oops Rescue Sponge, travel size lint roller, a full set of Miss Oops Mishap Tape, and a 1 oz bottle of Pedicure In a Bottle. Each product is just the right size to drop in your handbag, prepared for any type of “oopsie!”

Rescue Sponge: Deodorant marks on your clothes? Make-up powder on your collar? No problem, you’ve got Miss Oops Rescue Sponges. No need to wet your clothes, just briskly rub the dry sponge against the offending mark and watch it disappear. Safe to use on all fabrics.

Lint Roller: These cute little lint rollers are the perfect size to carry in your handbag or suitcase. Each unit comes with a roller filled with 20 adhesive sheets, plus a refill for a total of 40 sheets.

Mishap Tape: This double-sided apparel tape is perfect for women caught in the midst of a serious fashion mishap! This fabric friendly tape repairs hanging hems, closes gaping blouses, keeps peek-a-boo bra straps in place, and prevents plunging necklines from revealing too much. Miss Oops Mishap Tape is hypoallergenic and is packaged with 36 strips in two widths. So go ahead and wear that daring outfit--Miss Oops has you covered!

Pedicure in a Bottle: Same incredible formula just in a smaller size. Toss it in your carry on. It passes inspection. Doesn’t take up much room when you are on the go, but still does the job.

This is one of the most unbelievably sensible and useful kits I have come across in a very long time. It's cute, it's portable and everything WORKS. The Rescue Sponge really does get rid of deodorant marks. I put the Pedicure in a Bottle in my gym bag so that I can use it on my punished feet right away. The Mishap Tape and Lint Roller are now permanent residents in my bag. (I love them most of all!)

You don't need me to tell you this, but I will: this is also an awesome gift idea.

Check out the website and look at all the other cool handy products (there's also a video of Ms. Ooops being featured on The View). And if you really want some fun, check out the store locations and go for a browse.

Shiny And New: COVERGIRL ShineBlast Glosses (review)

Hello and Happy Saturday (evening)! I know I usually post bright and early (okay, before noon) on Saturdays; but this seems to be yet another weekend where Life refuses to follow my careful instructions. Life can be really obstinate sometimes. Could it be that just maybe I have a tendency to over plan? (Answer: Absolutely not. It is Life that is behaving incorrectly.)

Anyway, this lovely evening I am thrilled to feature my shiny new toys from the folks at COVERGIRL. I hope you all got a chance to take advantage of the presale of their new Blast Collection (if not, you can still preview until December 5).

ShineBlast Lip Gloss

Blurb: Sculpt your lips with curve-accentuating high shine and a fun flash of iridescent color. Lipwear has never been such a blast! The patented ShineSculpt™ applicator hugs the contours of lips and boasts a tapered tip for precise shaping and sculpting, while 16 shimmering shades deliver a brilliant, glossy finish and perfectly polished pout.

The patented ShineSculpt™ is a uniquely shaped applicator that delivers more shine in a single swipe than the leading gloss. Flexible scoop applicator with built in product wells designed to hug the contours of lips to help deliver a fuller, more sculpted look. Lip hugging applicator for 4X more noticeable shine vs bare lips. Tapered tip enables precise shaping and control. Polymer- and oil-rich formula delivers high shine with a lightweight feel. Luminescent droplets of pearlized pigment form a perfect amount of shimmer behind the shine. Embedded pools of shine add brilliant depth. Non-tacky formula removes “high-shine vs. sticky” trade-off, typical of traditional lip glosses.

The two colors I tried are absolutely lovely. The applicator is excellent (a curved tip holds lots of gloss, and makes it so much easier to apply – no double/triple dipping). And the formula is wonderful. It feels moisturizing, smooth and very lightweight, but still delivers tons of shine. It also lasts without being sticky. “Ignite” is a sheer tangerine, and “Sparkler” is a pretty, flattering sheer pink. Both of these colors looked great by themselves as well as layered over something darker. I layered “Ignite” over a red lip stain and looooved the result. (This just might be my go-to holiday combo.)

The other shades (which I haven’t tried yet) are: Gleam, Flare, Smolder, Firecracker, Radiate, Fire, Ember, Heat, Dazzle, Glow, Beam, Glimmer, Aglow and Ablaze. These glosses will be available nationwide beginning in January 2010.

Winter Skincare Tips from Dr. Denese

In September, I reviewed some fabulous items from Dr. Denese Skincare and was thoroughly impressed. In fact, the eye cream is probably the best eye sunscreen I have ever ever tried. Now that Winter is approaching, here are some new awesome tips for coming months.

Also, Dr. Denese shared these tips (and product recommendations) on Good Morning America a couple of weeks ago. To watch the video, click HERE.

Tips For Luminous Winter Skin

It’s time to switch up your beauty routine for the winter! During winter, more factors contribute to dry lines and irritation such as extreme weather, low humidity, and in-door heating that sucks out all the moisture. Avoid problematic skin with Dr. Denese’s winter skincare tips and have luminous skin even in the toughest weather.

Cleanser – Switch to a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin. Aggressive cleanser can take away natural moisture of the epidermis and leave your skin dry and itchy.

Exfoliation – Gently exfoliate your skin once a week. Dead surface cells can form a barrier that stops the moisturizer from permeating your skin.

Serum – Add an intense dose of moisture to your skin by using a serum. Not only can a serum plump up your skin cell and help lock in hydration, but it can also help absorb the moisturizer afterwards.

Intensive Moisturizer – Continue to add hydration with an intensive moisturizer. This will help maintain the moisture in skin lipid barrier and avoid irritating itchiness and dry lines.

UV Protection – Last but certainly the most important is to use a broad spectrum UV protection to sum up your daily routine. Harmful UVA and UVB waves still exist during the winter and they can cause skin pre-maturing and pigmentation.

Smart makeup tip! Blend your usual concealer with Dr. Denese HydroShield Serum to create your own moisturizing cover up. This will help your concealer to stay put all day and avoid dry lines under your eyes!

Holiday Hair and Makeup Tips from the Rita Hazan Salon

Passing along some info I got from The Rita Hazan Salon. Celebrity Hairstylists and Makeup Artists from the New York Salon have shared some trends and tips for the holiday season. Start reading…

Tis’ the season to glitter, shimmer and shine. With holiday festivities and New Years Eve events upon us,Celebrity Makeup Artists Sandy Linter and Celebrity Hairstylists Eugene Toye, Ryan Cunningham and Eddie Ngai from the Rita Hazan Salon are here to tell you the trends of the season and how to achieve the perfect holiday look:

MAKEUP

All That Glitters: When using a glitter-based shadow, make sure to apply your eye makeup before applying your foundation. This way any residual glitter that falls will not ruin any previous applications. Any remaining glitter can be wiped away with a gentle eye makeup remover and Q-Tip. A trick to making glitter shadows stick is to apply a crème eyeshadow all over your eyelid. Than with your fingertips or a sponge applicator, pat on the glitter. The crème shadow helps the glitter adhere to your eyelids.

Add A Little Length: To transform your eyelashes for a more dramatic look, try Shu Uemura’s False Eyelashes. When applying lashes, be sure to bend the lashes back and forth so the band is not stiff. After applying the false lashes and once the glue has dried clamp you lashes with an eyelash curler to set the look. When wearing fake lashes, do not use colored shadows. Instead use a neutral gold shadow on the lid, such as Lancôme Filigree and contour the crease of your eye with a brown taupe shade, such as Lancôme Chic; making the eyes look big and festive but not (cheap!)

Bright Idea: Brighter shades of lipstick always work for the holiday season. Check out Lancome’s new lipstick, La Laque Fever in Raze Red or Electric Pink. Designed to have a high potency of color and unprecedented shine; this full cover lipshine will offer you up to 8 hours of vibrant color.

HAIR

The Ponytail is a classic yet fun style for the holiday season. To achieve this look: Start by blowing out your hair using a volumizing spray. Once the hair has settled, slick back your hair and wrap a rubber band around the pony leaving a few chunks of strands. Wrap strand around rubber band to hide the band, and tuck leftover piece into the rubber band.
To glam it up wear a jeweled headband.

Finger Waves, classy just like the 40’s. This style works best on naturally wavy hair although these waves can be re-created on any hairstyle. To glam it up wear a jeweled headband. In order to achieve this look you will need some gel, hairpins and some curlers. Once hair is curled under, you will want to pin the curls in place at the nape of the neck. Long straight pins are the key to securing your locks and holding this updo in place. Make sure to insert pins in opposite direction.

Classic Chignon (Messy Version), perfect for holiday rushing and party hopping. To create this look: To give hair just the right amount of movement and keep it from being too close to the head, use a volumizing cream and apply to freshly washed and well-towel-dried hair. Comb product through hair and put a deep side part in hair. Blow dry hair with a medium round brush for added body. Then, brush hair back into a low ponytail and fasten just above the nape of the neck. Begin winding the hair around the base of the ponytail, securing it underneath and on top with bobby pins as you go. Leaving the ends out. It’s more modern to have pieces out for a look that’s slightly undone. Use gold or colored bobby pins to spice it up for the holidays.

My Hair (and I) Heart Philip B: Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo & Katira Hair Mask (review)

I don't think I'm wrong to love Philip B. Even though we don't live anywhere near each other, we travel in different circles, have different friends, and have never met or corresponded; I know that my love is real. Because my love is not based on shallow things like common interests, proximity or shared experiences. I love Philp B. because my hair looks really good today.

Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo

Blurb: We call this the Fountain of Youth for hair: Our reconstructing shampoo rejuvenates and revitalizes all hair types, giving even chemically-damaged strands a dramatically youthful look, feel and radiance from the first use. The power-packed formula truly heals on all fronts: Eleven life-giving L-Amino acids at active strengths repair hair on a cellular level — quickly restoring its body, bounce and shine. An extraordinarily high dose of Panthenol (Vitamin B5) coupled with a catalyst, Phytantriol, sinks moisture deep into every strand. An artful, Russian-inspired blend of of Chamomile, Grape Seed, Rosemary, Nettle, Burdock and Sage infuses hair with emollients for a healthy gleam-from-within. Protective Silk, Wheat and Soy Proteins increase elasticity and tensile strength. And Shea Butter imparts a finishing touch of weightless hydration for beautiful, long-lasting bounce and resilience. Equally decadent: The tantalizing scent of PHILIP B® Russian Amber Imperial Shampoo channels the opulence of the Romanov dynasty, when the healing and calming properties of Amber Oil were treasured by a privileged few. Treat your hair like royalty — the Imperial way!

Katira Hair Masque

Blurb: A gentle yet surprisingly versatile rejuvenator for all hair types, our unique, clear-gel formula sinks right in to plump up fine, limp strands or calm and smooth coarse, hard-to-manage hair. Think of it as an amped-up, squeaky-clean version of a deep-conditioning treatment: You get all the vibrant shine and silkiness you could dream of – without a trace of added weight or residue. PHILIP B® Katira Hair Masque will make the most of any hair texture, taking lush, light and manageable to a whole new level. Powerful amino acids work to rebuild fiber of hair, Katira imparts long-lasting moisture adding noticeable thickness, body, bounce and extreme shine for a red-carpet finish. PHILIP B® Katira Hair Masque will make the most of any hair texture, taking lush and managable to a whole new level.

How it works: Pure Katira Extract -- the "it" conditioner of the Middle East -- fills in weak, damaged spots in the hair cuticle for added smoothness and strength. It also gives your hair a slight electrical charge – you’ll feel it during your blowout – that leaves it fantastically light and bouncy. A high-tech L-Amino Acid Complex infuses your hair with a perfect dose of weightless, oil-free moisture and nourishing proteins for enhanced control and elasticity. Just one application will instantly revitalize your hair color, speed up blow-drying time, and lock in shine for a sexy, touchable, red-carpet finish.

In case you skipped my opening paragraph, let me repeat: my hair looks really good today. Extra special good. It also feels extra special good. I used the Shampoo and Masque last night, and today my hair is soft, curly, bouncy and shiny. It's also raining outside and there is not one smidgen of frizz.

The Shampoo is phenominal. It's more than a shampoo – it's an event (and it's very thick). I warmed it in my hands until it softened and then used it on my hair. After rinsing, I could already feel the difference. My hair was extremely clean, but also soft and smooth. The fragrance is lovely too. I let my hair dry naturally, then applied the hair Masque. I wrapped it in a towel and then let it dry during the evening (and left it in overnight). This morning I rinsed, put in my usual conditioner and said hello to the fabulousness.

Check out the website (if you haven't already). If you're thinking about gifts, there's also a page with great gift sets and suggestions.
