Spring Fingers: O∙P∙I Dim Sum Plum (review)

I’m going to be tied up most of the day, so I decided to post nice and early. I’m not sure what the opposite of “Indian Summer” is; but we seem to have experienced a brief “Indian Winter” during the last few days. After a burst of Spring, we temporarily reverted back to cold, windy, wet weather. I even had to put my sandals back in the closet. Gasp!

But we still know that Spring weather is inching its way into our lives to stay. And to keep the whole spring thing going; I’m going to talk about a polish from the other O∙P∙I Spring Collection.

Dim Sum Plum (from the Hong Kong Collection)

Blurb: OPI Hong Kong Dim Sum Plum is a berry delectable delicacy. City edge. Shades that capture the brilliant sharpness of the cityscape. A modern mood of color and perspective for spring.

I love this color. It’s versatile and full of pizzazz! It’s a gorgeous, rich, bright (yet modern) berry. It’s universally flattering and works well with bright spring colors as well as more conservative browns, blacks and greys. It’s also fun and bright for a pedicure. It can go to the beach, a club or a board meeting.

Take a look at the whole collection on the website. (Some of the shades are also available on select DELL™ laptops - fancy!) O∙P∙I can be found at drugstores like Duane Reade and Beauty Stores like Ulta.

Have a great Wednesday!

Sunshine Buddy: Jan Marini AntiOxidant Daily Face Protectant (Review)

Of course the day I decide to write about a new sunscreen is the day we’ve had almost zero sunshine. It’s been raining all day. But that will not stop me!

Last weekend when I was in Baltimore, there was sunshine aplenty! All day long, we had warm, sunny weather and I was walking around in it. So it was a perfect opportunity to try out my newest protection product from Jan Marini.

Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant (SPF 30)

Blurb: Combines a cutting edge microscopic sponge encapsulation system, state of the art sun protection, a powerful antioxidant component, and a superb hydrating complex. And now, new PhytoMelanin Plant extract technology offers excellent additional UV and antioxidant protection. By incorporating PhytoMelanin technology into our SPF 30 Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant, this already remarkable formula now provides even greater natural photoprotection along with exceptional antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Since I’m a sunscreen nut; I’m thrilled that I found such a fabulous all around performer. One of the things that makes Jan Marini’s stand out is that it’s waterproof (or at least very water resistant). So far it’s the only water resistant/waterproof sunscreen for the face I’ve tried that both looks and feels good. It sits well under makeup, absorbs quickly, feels weightless, stays put, has a high protection factor, controls shine, and also incorporates hydrating and antioxidant properties. An excellent sunscreen, and an especially awesome travel buddy!

Check out the other fabulous products on the website and read the various Testimonials while you’re there. You can order directly from the website, or check out the Where To Buy section for distributors near you.

Happy Tuesday!

Fancy Friday: Clé de Peau Concealer (review)

Last night I was out kinda late having big time fun. Was I painting the town red? Er…no. I was at a potluck playing Bingo. I was also talking and laughing with lots of cool people. Which is good…because the Bingo gods were not on my side last night.

Neither were the traffic gods. Due to some kind of "situation" I ended up getting home way too late and then getting in bed way too late. Which means I woke up with baggy, puffy, blotchy eyes. So today I'm going to look (er…squint) on the bright side and use my eye "situation" to reference today's beauty item from Clé de Peau Beaute.

Correcteur Visage (Concealer)

Blurb: A concealer stick that covers spots, freckles, and dark circles to create a beautiful, even-toned complexion.

I must be pretty sleepy to review a $70 concealer! I'm fully aware that this is one of the more extravagant items I've featured on my blog; but it's gotten so many rave reviews that I finally had to see what all the fuss was about.

The thing is…it really works. I mean really works. It conceals. It hides stuff. It hides bags, dark circles, fine lines, dark spots and blotchy skin beautifully. I even tried it on a freckle on my arm. Poof! All gone.

There's not a whole lot more I can say. In this case, you really do get what you pay for. Now I'm all gung ho to browse the website some more. I may also pay another visit to another Clé de Peau beauty counter in the near future. (CdP counters are at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.

Have a great weekend!

Feelin Pre-Spring: Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color, “Les Impressions de Chanel” (review)

It's about to rain any second here, but the temperature is hovering around 60 degrees. I think that officially qualifies as a Spring shower, don't you? Maybe it will even help the rest of the snow disappear!

It's been feeling like Spring all week. I can't believe it. After all the recent, blizzards and snow days; it seems like I moved or something. Anyway, to keep the Spring vibe going, I'm reviewing part of the Spring 2010 Makeup Collection from Chanel.

Le Vernis Nail Color

Blurb: Brilliance to your fingertips with must-have colours from the runways of Paris. State-of-the-art formula strengthens and moisturizes nails. Unique patented non-spill bottle with wiping action for easy application.

I love these colors, and it bears mentioning that the formula is exceptional. It covers well (even with one coat), dries beautifully and lasts. The three new colors are feminine, rich and sophisticated. "Inattendu" (#503) is a creamy sandy/sunny beige, and "Tendresse" (#507) is a tender, feminine pink.

"Particulière" (#505) is one the most awesome colors I've seen so far this year. It's a warm rich taupe with a hint of grey (reminds me of café-au-lait). It's gorgeous, flattering and can go just about anywhere.

You can check out the rest of the Spring collection on the website, but I recommend you head to your nearest department store Chanel counter and take a look in person.

Happy Thursday!

Fun In My Week: Too Faced Fun in the Dark Palette (review)

Sorry about yesterday, everyone. It turns out that it really isn't possible to accomplish 16 hours' worth of stuff in 10 hours. Who knew? After having a mini-meltdown yesterday, I re-did my "to do" list and made the rest of the week a little more manageable.

One thing I also added to my list was some fun. Even though I don't have a whole lot of time before my trip; I decided that I could forgo a few things (like vacuuming or sorting my photos) and have a bit of fun this week. Which leads me right to a cool limited edition (and fun) palette from Too Faced Cosmetics.

Fun in the Dark Palette (Limited Edition)

Blurb: The limited-edition Fun in the Dark Quickie Chronicle features a collection of Too Faces best sellers and two exclusive eye shadow shades. This luxury pro-palette contains a makeup mirror that lights up for additional glam and on-the-go touch ups.

Well, ok…the name. And not just the name of the palette, check out the colors:

Shadows: Pin Up, Peep Show, Full Frontal, Lucky Charms
Lips: Girls Dig Pearls in Tropical Pink, Lip of Luxury in Free Love
Blush: Papa Don't Peach
Bronzer: Sun Bunny Bronzer

Packaging – also fun (and user-friendly…and sexy). I was having a great time before I even tried a single color! Luckily, the colors are also fabulous. From the shadows, I really loved "Lucky Charms" (a deep, smoky green). The "Peach" Blush is gorgeous and versatile, and the "Girls Dig Pearls…" lip color is something I could wear forever (and not just in the dark).

Too Faced has a slew of awesome palettes and kits on their website. Right now I'm eyeing the Walk of Shame Kit as well as a couple of the shadow duos. The Launch Pad section has all the new stuff, and you can sign up to be a fan on their Facebook page. You can also find Too Faced at Sephora, Ulta, and beauty.com.

Pre-Spring Fun! Laura Geller Baked Bites (review)

Jumpin Jiminy! I know that Spring is still a couple of weeks away; but I have caught Spring fever in a big way! All I want to do is goof off, eat chocolate and write sensitive poetry. Okay, it doesn't really have to be Spring for me to want to goof off and eat chocolate; but the poetry part is pretty Spring-ey. And I also kind of want to buy a plant.

Since I'm horrible with plants, and this isn't a poetry blog; how about I write a nice review of a cool lip product from Laura Geller? Now doesn't that sound nice?

Baked Bites (in Bronze Berry)

Blurb: Baked Bites presents the first time I've ever brought my Baked category to lips. The first thing you'll notice when you put it on, is the incredibly weightless, yet vibrant color. This unique version of my Baked Powder is paraben- and mineral oil-free and brings a new depth of color and comfort to your lips. Included with the baked lip color is my special Olive Oil Gloss, to slip under or over your lip color. Infused with Olive Oil, Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, this soft drenching of moisture has a sheer, creamy cling. All you feel is the comfort.

I just had to try something new. I just had to! And I'm glad I did, because this is a very fun and unique item. The "baked" lip color is actually a powder. It goes on with a sponge applicator and looks pretty darn cool. It also has pretty good staying power. There are two shades (a bronze and a berry). Along with the baked color is a sheer berry-colored gloss that can go under or over the baked color. I know it sounds a bit complicated, but it's super fun (and extremely versatile). Each component can be worn alone, or combined/layered together. I loved the look of the baked color alone (I found it to be a bit dry in the morning, so I applied the gloss underneath and it felt fine). The colors are versatile too, and the palette is definitely portable and bag ready.

Of course you wouldn't dream of goofing off in the middle of the day. But just in case, you want to see more cool stuff (during your lunch hour of course); take a look at the website and check out the What's New section (shipping is free with orders of $50 or more). Laura Geller products are also found at Sephora, Amazon.com, QVC and Beauty.com.

Happy Almost Spring!

Friday Happy Face! Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 (review)

It looks like I may actually make it through the first 5-day work week I've had in a while! All the days off in the last few weeks were great; but this week felt looooong. (I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one in the Mid-Atlantic region going all TGIF today.)

The fact that it's Friday has absolutely nothing to do with the product I'm reviewing. I just feel like sharing the awesome info about another item from Exuviance. I've reviewed them a couple of times, and I'm happy to add another good one to the list.

Blurb: The creators of the original Glycolic Acid peel introduce a high performance peel that is safe and easy to use at home. The Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 contains a 25% blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Polyhydroxy Acids (PHA) including Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and Gluconolactone. Performance Peel AP25 not only works at skin's surface to exfoliate dead, dull surface layers, it also stimulates the process of cell renewal among all layers, to reveal fresher, healthier cells. With regular use, up to twice a week, this peel has been clinically proven to: Refine pore size and smooth texture, visibly diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve clarity and brightness, brighten and even skin tone, Provide an all-over healthy glow, suppleness and smoothness to skin.

The package contains 12 peels (a 6 week supply if used twice weekly). They're suitable for face, neck, chest, body and the backs of your hands. I tried them out on my face and loved the results.

First, they're incredibly easy to use. The pads are in "single serving" packets – very hygienic, and no messy bottles or pumps. I rubbed an "Activator Pad" containing the peeling agents over my face. Then I waited 10 minutes and followed with a "Neutralizer Pad." I rinsed, moisturized and was all done. No muss, no fuss, and great results.

My skin looked fresh and glowing right after I used the pads; and over the last few weeks it has started looking clearer, smoother and brighter. I haven't felt any irritation or sensitivity at all. This is a truly fabulous at home product!

You can learn more by checking out the Exuviance page on the Neostrata website. I'm a big fan of their oily/acne prone skin products; so if you have any issues in that area, check them out. There's also free shipping for orders over $75, and a free gift (an awesome tube of their Skin Brightening Gel) with orders over $100.

And while you're trying to look busy until 5:00; you may want to check out their page on Facebook.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Happy (Busy) Wednesday: Sula Paint & Peel (review)

Howdy! Today has been absolutely crazy and I'm having a difficult time thinking of anything other than how much work I have.

I'm learning music again this week so all my energy is focused on little black notes. So what kind of beauty product could I possibly tie in (cheesily, of course) to little black notes? Well fear not! In addition to little black notes, I'm also going to talk about little black nails. Ten of them to be exact. On my fingers. Courtesy of Sula Beauty.

Paint & Peel Nail Polish (in "Midnight")

Blurb: This water-based nail color has amazing appeal. Gorgeous colors apply easily and simply peel off the nail. Touch ups are a snap with the fast drying formula. For extended wear, use water-based Permanent in clear or metallic.

I've been eyeing these for months, and I finally decided to give one a try. Would it go on easily? Would it look nice? Would it really peel off? The answers are yes, yes, and YES!

I'm kind of snobby about my nail polishes, but this one is a keeper. First, it went on easily and smoothly. It also dried fairly quickly. Instead of a lacquer shine, I got more of a vinyl finish. The coverage is excellent. It even looked good with one coat (I used two, though). And yes indeed, it peeled right off! I purposely chose the shade "Midnight" (aka: black) because dark colors are the biggest pain to remove. But the polish peeled easily, and my nails were all ready for a new color.

This is the perfect polish to have for those "one-off" occasions (when you want something bold or different to wear only for a night or two). Since the finish is softer, the surface gets dulled a bit sooner; so you may want to use the "Permanent" when you want to keep your manicure longer. But the fact that you can just peel the whole thing off is fabulous. These are also great for travel (since you can skip the polish remover).

Check out website. In addition to other non-nail related items, you can look at more of the Paint and Peel collection and then take a look at the where-to-find section. Sula is also sold at Anthropologie and Ulta.

Batting Practice: Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume™ Lifting Mascara (review)

A while back, I posted a review of the limited edition colored mascaras from Estée Lauder. I was so carried away by the awesome colors, that I gave the formula short shrift. So today, I am remedying the situation.

Sumptuous Bold Volume™ Lifting Mascara

Blurb: Lift each lash with big, bold, weightless volume. Unprecedented Bold Volume™ formula has ultra light, lash-thickening fibers. Lifts and plumps even sparse lashes into big, lush lashes that are all lightness and flirtatious curl. Exclusive BrushComber™ thickens like a brush. Defines like a comb. Wraps your entire lash in air-light volume. Lashes soar with 360° lift and curl.

I like all different kinds of mascaras; but if I had to choose only one mascara to use for the rest of my life, this would be it.

When I reviewed the colored mascaras, I mostly discussed…the colors. But the formula deserves praise all by itself. I use it with the Lash Primer Plus, and it lasts all day without clumping, smudging or flaking. What really makes this mascara stand out, though, is the lifting, volumizing and curling action. It really works! My lashes look thicker and they curl up beautifully - giving me a lovely, flirty, doe-eyed look! The Sumptuous formula is available in black and brown - and now there's even a new Waterproof formula!

Check out the website (and be sure to visit the What's New section). You can also find and try out Estée Lauder at nice department stores.

Twice Beaten, Twice Soothed: Face Masques from Montagne Jeunesse (review)

Sorry there was no post on Friday. Yet again I had my backside beaten (figuratively, of course) by various and sundry circumstances. Once by the snow, and a second time by a schedule that had to be rearranged…then rearranged again. By yesterday, my metaphorical derriere was pretty darn sore.

So today seems like a perfect time to talk about a couple of nice pampering, soothing, stress-reducing products. Since the weekend spanked me twice, I'm reviewing two face masques from Montagne Jeunesse.

(And I promise to knock it off with the bottom imagery now. Especially since these are face masques.)

Chocolate Mud Masque (anti-stress)

Blurb: Chocolate, yes, it’s chocolate. A guilt free treat! This masque offers a feast of creamy delights – it’s outrageous! This deep cleansing masque helps unblock pores, moisturizes and heals for skin that glows with health. It smells incredible – imagine these – Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter – creamy heaven. Enjoy! Gluten Free. No Added Parabens.

Cucumber Purifying Peel-Off Masque (anti-stress)

Blurb: So easy to use and it actually feels as though you are peeling away dead and dry skin. You’ll love the opaque green texture – it’s really fresh. After a few minutes the masque will start to dry and your face will feel tight – it’s quite amusing. When completely dry you should be able to pull off in one piece – this is all part of the fun! Your skin will feel instantly smoother, clearer and refreshed, it’s fabulous. This masque is great for use once a week as a skin detox. Suitable For Vegans. Gluten Free. Dairy Free. No Added Parabens.

These masques are inexpensive enough to indulge in whenever you feel like it. A little basket of them would also make a nice gift. The Chocolate Masque really looks, smells and feels like creamy chocolate frosting. I spread it on my face and enjoyed the yummy chocolate fragrance while my pores were being purified. When I rinsed, my skin felt clean and balanced.

The Cucumber Masque was also wonderful. It didn't smell exactly like cucumber; but it did have a nice, fresh scent. It smoothed on easily and felt very tingly. The instructions say to "relax and drift into pleasant thoughts," so I made sure to do that. After the masque dried, it peeled off easily and left my skin soft and smooth.

In addition to creating fun and reasonably priced products (my masques were $1.79 at Ulta); Montagne Jeunesse believes that products should be made with minimal processing, using natural ingredients derived from plant and mineral sources. Many of their products are dairy free and suitable for vegans. They also consider environmental impact when designing their packaging.

The website has tons of masks, sachets, tonics, and hair and body products. Sign up to learn about their commitment to animal welfare, Gorgeous Free Stuff, seasonal stuff and stuff that's on sale. You can also find their products at grocery stores, drug stores, Ulta, and Neoteric.

Happy Monday!

An All New High Performance Anti-Aging Foundation That Delivers All-Day Moisture, Ultra-Radiance and Incredible Lift

Harnessing the power of high performance and skin-caring ingredients, Estée Lauder Research brings you our most advanced and effective age-defying foundation to date. The New Resilience Lift Extreme Radiant Lifting Makeup SPF15 offers all-day continuous moisture, ultra-radiance, incredible lift and exceptional spreadibility - all in a new fluid formula that is ideal for maturing skin. This luxurious, flawless liquid foundation keeps you ageless, gliding smoothly and effortlessly over skin, evening out the complexion and leaving skin looking exceptionally hydrated and beautifully radiant all day!

As we age, our skin begins to lose firmness, elasticity and the ability to maintain moisture levels, becoming drier and leading to an increased appearance of lines and wrinkles. Historically, it has been difficult to address these aging factors in a foundation formula. However, the scientists at Estée Lauder’s research labs recently discovered a new way to infuse higher levels of skincare actives into the foundation formula, making it possible to create a high-performing foundation that not only spreads easily and envelopes the skin, but also infuses skin with moisture and radiance, restoring skin’s younger look and function from the moment it is applied.

Thanks to Estée Lauder’s advanced time-released hydration technology, Resilience Lift Extreme Radiant Lifting Makeup SPF15 relieves dry skin immediately and provides skin with all-day moisture, ultra radiance and incredible lift so skin looks supple and feels comfortable throughout the day. In addition, the new and improved oil-in-water formula features a lighter texture that allows the formula to glide over skin effortlessly and blend in seamlessly for an ultra-radiant finish that evens out and brightens the complexion and restores lost luminosity. The result is skin that instantly looks more firm, lifted, moisturized and radiant – in a word, flawless.

Available in 15 beautifully wearable, color-true shades that range from warm to neutral to cool, Resilience Lift Extreme Radiant Lifting Makeup’s long wearing formula is buildable, providing skin with luxurious medium to full coverage.
