Bring it to the Party: Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara (review)

Hi all! Hope your holiday was happy, healthy and wonderful! I’m so happy to be back in Philly (even though my inner clock is still on West Coast time).

Just in time for the “big night;” I thought I’d take a bit of time to talk about the cool new mascara recently unveiled by Bobbi Brown. As soon as I heard about this one; I made a beeline for my nearest BB counter and snapped up a tube.

Extreme Party Mascara

Blurb: Our boldest mascara ever. Unbelievable volume. Endless build. Exceptional separation. Pliable formula stays flexible even after it dries, so each coat goes on as fresh as the first - immediately or hours later - with zero dragging, clumping or flaking. Tapered brush grabs even the smallest, hard-to-reach lashes. Now that's beautiful.

That is an extremely modest blurb. I love this mascara. You will love this mascara. Really. It doesn’t smudge, flake, smear or clump. Good wand. Great black color. And it separates lashes really well. But those are not the reasons you will love it. You will love this mascara because it is amazingly buildable. One coat looked nice and natural. And once I started adding coats, I got some serious glam going on! Not only that, I was able to apply new coats hours after the first one had dried. Which makes this a hands down perfect day-to-evening item. Prepare to experience the love.

Right now the website is offering free shipping with any order. You can also find Bobbi Brown at fine department stores and online at Blue Mercury.

Happy (almost) New Year!

Happy Holidays!

Well I made it! My plane landed last night in LA (land of the very, very fancy). It's really weird. After days of snowy wonderland and trying not to slip on the ice, suddenly it's light sweaters and cars that don't have salty film all over them. Gotta love America!

Wow, right off the bat I managed to go on a tangent!

Aaaanyway, I would just like to take a moment to wish all of you a joyous, blessed and safe holiday. I know it's corny, but just writing this little note makes me feel grateful and happy. Grateful that I have so many opportunities to express myself (and happy that I have something to say from time to time).

I wish you all the chance (or rather chances) to express yourself. I hope each of you gets at least one opportunity during your holiday to say what's in your heart. And hopefully to hear what is in the heart of someone else. Sharing ourselves with each other is a true gift. Sometimes it seems to cost more than it should; but knowing ourselves and our fellow human beings is always magical (and even worth a little bit of embarassment now and then).

Goodbye for the moment!
Maria

Keep Your Party Face: Estée Lauder Double Wear Light (review)

Hi everyone! I am still running around like a crazy person, but I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Tomorrow I start traveling, so there won't be anymore reviews until I return on Tuesday.

But don't think for one minute that I've forgotten our weekly appointment with a highly recommended foundation. No, I have not! Many of you (and hopefully me) may be going to fun parties and gatherings. And I don't know about you, but I don't really want to spend them in the bathroom touching up my foundation. What? You don't either? Okay, then. Enter our Foundation of the Week from Estée Lauder.

Double Wear Light Stay In Place Makeup (SPF 10)

Blurb: 15-hour wear, light as air—long-wear makeup is now lightweight makeup. This is Makeup That Keeps Up. Fresh, natural, comfortable. Goes on sheer, leaves skin free to breathe all day. Controls oil. Resists smudging and won't "melt" off through heat and humidity. For a look that stays vibrant and fresh whether it's a workday, a workout or a weekend. Smooth it on once and don't think twice about it.

I swear by this foundation during the summer months; but it's fabulous for a night out too. Overheated and/or crowded rooms can be lots of fun, but not so kind to your makeup. Warm air and lots of activity require a foundation with real staying power; and this foundation has it big time. It goes on beautifully, gives medium to full coverage (it's fairly buildable), dries to a nice matte finish and does not budge. It even controls oil (another enemy of the flawless complexion). It also comes in a nice range of shades. You can schmooze/dance/whatever for hours without having to touch up. ParTAY!

Now this is the time when I tell you to check out the website. So check it out already! In addition to the usual; there's a ton of holiday gorgeousness to look at.

Monday Musings: Davines DEDE Conditioner (review)

We interrupt this blog for a panic attack: Oh my goodness, it's Monday already! And it's afternoon already! And I get on a plane the day after tomorrow and I'm not even remotely ready! And I haven't finished my shopping! And! And! And!

Whew. Okay. All done. Just needed to have my little moment there. Thank goodness I have a nice opportunity to stop my worrying and talk about pretty things that make me forget that…oh, I'm just not even going to mention what I'm trying to forget. But since I'm feeling a little…stressed…I am going to cleverly (and by cleverly, I probably mean cornily) tie in to today's product. It's for hair. Hair that is stressed. (See how I did that?). Today's cure for stress comes from the sustainable and socially minded people at Davines.

Blurb: Davines DEDE Conditioner Delicate Replenishing Leave-in Mist is specially formulated for fine, stressed hair that tends to lose its volume and body. This powerful yet delicate dual-action spray conditions and strengthens fine, dry hair while infusing a layer of anti-oxidant protection without weighing the hair down. Featuring Grape Extract for strength and protection and Panthenol for moisture and conditioning, a few sprays are all you need to leave your strands with a silky soft finish and a healthy shine. DEDE Leave-in Mist is also the perfect foundation to any chemical treatment, providing a smooth, base of hair by evening out the hairs porosity. Effective yet gentle enough for everyday, you’ll love the softness you get from Davines DEDE Conditioner Mist.

Even though my hair isn't exactly fine, I decided to check this out. In the dry weather, my hair tends to start acting very strangely; so it's fun to try things out and see what happens. When the weather is extra dry (like it has been all weekend), sometimes my hair won't even curl very much…and I'll even get flyaways. And instead of shine, it tends to just sit there and look flat. I misted the leave-in on my damp hair and worked it through…and was really pleased with the results. My hair got much softer, got a little more curl to it and the flyaways were gone. I was also really surprised to see some nice shine. I imagine that if you have fine hair, this would be amazing. It didn't seem to weigh my hair down at all either.

Besides making fabulous hair care products, Davines is also dedicated to manufacturing their products in a responsible and sustainable way. They pay close attention to balancing style, spirit, science and nature. Check out some of the things they have to say about this on their website. You can also purchase their products at their salons and sites like Amazon, StyleBell, and Folica.

Oh I almost forgot...Happy Winter Solstice!

I Feel Snowbound: Darphin Jasmine Aromatic Care (review and mini weather rant)

Well, it seems to be snowing here in the Philly area. A lot. Normally I LOVE the snow. When I grew up in Southern California, we would actually drive to the mountains to “visit the snow.” So I’m usually pretty thrilled that the snow now comes right to my door. Usually. Today, I am slightly less than thrilled. Because I had plans. Good plans. Now I have to move to Plan B. (The letter “B” stands for “bites” as in “having to change my plans bites.”)

Thank you, everyone, I just needed to complain for a bit. Those of you who read my blog know how cranky I get when plans go awry. But I fully understand that this is not the worst thing in the world. I also seem to remember that when stuff like this happens, life has a strange, unforeseen way of turning out better than I expected. I don’t know why that is, but it seems to be the norm more than the exception. So I’ll stop whining and start thinking about how beautiful and magical the snow looks falling outside of my window. And how grateful I am to safe, warm and probably exactly where I need to be a this moment.

What’s that? No I did not forget that this is a beauty blog! Not for one teensy minute! I'm afraid I don’t have a cheesy tie-in to today’s review though. But I don’t think I need one. Today’s fabulous little bottle of gorgeousness comes from the wonderful folks (les gens merveilleux) at Darphin Paris.

Jasmine Aromatic Care

Blurb: Revive tired, dull skin. This aromatic, smoothing and revitalizing essence of well-being nourishes and helps improve elasticity. Apply Darphin Jasmine Aromatic Care in the evening. Key Ingredients: Jasmine Essential Wax, Rosewood and Orange Essential Oils, Raspberry Pip and Muscat Oils, Avocado Extracts.

Oh wait! I just thought of a tie-in! I finally get to sing O Holy Night tomorrow in a concert…and I get to sing part of it in French! I’m pretty excited about that. But see? French? Darphin Paris? Hmmm…I need to stop now and get on with the review, don’t I?

Okay then…This is one of the most fabulous, lovely, luxurious things I have ever had the privilege of wearing on my skin. I wish it wasn’t so pricey; because I would put it in the bathwater if I could. Instead, I just put it on my face. I use it like a moisturizer at night, and my skin loves it! It smells heavenly, absorbs quickly, soothes, hydrates and makes my skin petal soft. In the morning my skin is still soft and balanced. It’s made with the “right” kind of oils, so it doesn’t clog pores or cause breakouts. I really love using it right now because the air is so dry (especially at night). And the little bit of luxury before bed time is pretty awesome.

The website is basically one deluxe, fabulous-looking product after another. Darphin is also found at Blue Mercury (and fancy stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus).

Fête-Worthy: NARS Single Eyeshadow in "Silent Night" (review)

Once again I indulged my NARS fetish and came home with yet another fab, rad, nifty, spiffy (and let's not forget sparkly) new shadow. Please don't judge me. I needed it.

Single Eyeshadow (in Silent Night)

Blurb: Longwearing, crease resistant color in sheer wearable formulas. All NARS eyeshadows can be applied sheer or layered for a more dramatic effect. These richly pigmented powders blend effortlessly and can also be used wet for precisely lining the eyes. Richly pigmented, micronized powder formula provides improved wear and feel. Effortless blending. Multifunction: use as eyeshadow, eyeliner and on eyebrows.

I don't know why this color is called "Silent" Night, because it's definitely a party color. And probably one of the most useful and versatile shades you can get. It's a fabulous gold with some shimmery particles added in for extra festive-ness. It works as a highlighter, shadow, and it's a gorgeous liner when applied with a wet brush. It blends well, stays put forever, looks great all night and doesn't flake or crease.

Now do you see why I couldn't live another minute without it? Do you?

Check out the tempting website and take a look at all of the other gorgeous items (especially the Holiday 2009 stuff). Then try and tell me you don't understand. NARS is also available at Sephora, beauty.com, and department stores like bloomingdales and Saks.

Oh, and happy Friday.

Complexion Do-Over: Origins New! Starting Over™ Age-erasing moisturizers

Whoa, dudettes! Check this out immediately! It looks like Origins may have done it again! Take a look at the newest awesome upcoming launch…

A New Year, A New You!
Origins Gives Your Skin Care Routine A Fresh Start for 2010

On December 26th, Origins introduces New! Starting Over™ Age-erasing moisturizers with Mimosa, a high-performance, natural alternative to harsh, painful, expensive cosmetic procedures.

Perfect for people looking to give a fresh start to their skincare routine with the New Year, ingredients found within Starting Over™ are clinically proven to help rebuild natural collagen, even-out skin tone and help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Starting Over™ is available in a regular as well as oil-free formulation.

During clinical testing, 100% of panelists saw a significant improvement in skin tone while 94% saw a significant improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

As skin ages; its structure deteriorates and collagen and elastin decrease. These structural changes are responsible for skin that looks older than it should. Excess sugar in skin and environmental concerns fuel the destructive process of Glycation which causes strong collagen to “ball up” and collapse resulting in lines, wrinkles and tone and texture damage.

Powered by Nature: “At Origins we look to nature for inspiration and science for validation. While studying natural ingredients in the plant world we uncovered the age-erasing powers of the Mimosa Tree,” said Lieve Declercq, Origins Global Spokesperson of Plant Physiology and Molecular Biology. “Specifically, the bark of the Mimosa Tree is a powerful natural collagen booster. We were thrilled to put its hidden talents to use as the key ingredient in Starting Over™.”

Along with other powerful plant ingredients that have been proven to help decrease the appearance of lines and wrinkles, Starting Over™ provides results from initial use. Argan Leaf and Green Algae work with Mimosa Tree Bark to help rebuild natural collagen and prevent against Glycation. A skin evening complex addresses dull and uneven skin tone with the powerful ingredients of Apple extract, Cucumber extract and Scutellaria Baicalensis Root. Skin will appear less lined and noticeably more uniform and luminous. Resurfacing agents of Chestnut-Castenae Sativa Extract, Salicylic Acid and Mannose Phosphate from corn weaken the bonds that anchor dead skin cells helping to resurface skin.

Caffeine from coffee beans, Turmeric and Yeast Ferment help provide antioxidant benefits and protect against irritation. The natural moisturizers of Sodium Hyaluronate, Trehalose from Corn, Wheat and Barley extracts provide moisturization that’s proven to last for hours after application.

Origins Starting Over™ Age-erasing moisturizer with Mimosa and Starting Over™ Age-erasing oil-free moisturizer with Mimosa will be available December 2009 at Origins Retail Stores, select Department Stores and
www.ORIGINS.com.

Princess By Day: Borghese Body and Skincare (review and SAMPLE SALE)

Does anyone remember that Borghese used to be Princess Marcella Borghese? Does anyone know why I felt the need to point that out? Neither do I.

Okay, then.

For some reason I'm all kinds of perky today. After the back pain and head clunking that began my week; I suddenly feel all healed, rested up and ready to play. It could be the good night's sleep I had. Or that I have a fun dinner tonight. Whatever it is, I'm glad the "pep" is back. And I'm also glad I get to review the rest of the fab products from my Serenity Now Gift Set. If you didn't read my earlier review (really, you didn't?); I've been checking out this set, and thoroughly loving every single thing in it. This morning I gave myself the full-on princess treatment with…

Fango Active Mud for Face and Body

Blurb: Our exclusive mineral-enriched mud mask is sourced from Tuscany's volcanic hills. It energizes and nourishes skin cells on the face and body. Special absorbing action unclogs pores, eliminates dead skin cells and detoxifies impurities. Skin feels comfortably hydrated, firmer and invigorated. Italian Mud provides mineral nourishment and special absorbing action which rids skin of impurities. Acqua di Vita® Complex revitalizes skin, reducing the signs of aging. Geranium, Lavender and Peppermint Oils are natural botanicals that stimulate and improve skin tone. Avocado and Sweet Almond Oils moisturize and soften skin.

This is an amazing deep-cleansing mask, and it's great for oily/combination complexions! It draws out the impurities, and leaves you with clean, fresh glowing skin. Used as a body mask, it can be a little wet and messy; but you'll be amazed how invigorated and restored you feel afterwards.

CuraForte Moisture Intensifier

Blurb: A lightweight formula that intensifies and maximizes the skin's capacity to hold moisture by 200%. It softens and lifts dull surface cells allowing the benefits of moisturizers to penetrate easily and perform at their optimum. Surface fine lines and wrinkles decrease up to 70% within 11 days. Liquid Crystal Molecules combined with Acqua di Vita® Complex - Flood the skin with moisture, minimizing fine lines. Lavender and Geranium Oils - Stimulate, soothe and improve skin tone and clarity.

A fabulous, fabulous serum! It absorbs immediately (even has a nice fragrance). It's non-irritating, fresh feeling and very hydrating. I haven't been using it long enough to gauge the results over time; but it immediately smoothes, and softens the appearance of any lines. And there's a noticeable boost in moisture without any extra oiliness.

Cura Di Vita Protettivo Protective Moisturizer (SPF 15)

Blurb: A lightweight, protective hydrating lotion that provides UVA/UVB protection and insures skin's youthful suppleness. Our exclusive Filtrex sunscreen system offers optimum daily protection from UV light and environmental exposure. Vitamins C and E protect against free radical damage. Carob, Black Currant, Geranium, Rosewood, Cypress and Chamomile Oils are natural essential oils that combine to soothe, soften and protect skin. Acqua di Vita® Complex combines with humectants providing smoothing comfort for skin.

This is a wonderful moisturizer that works very well with the serum. It has SPF (yay), and a lovely, luxurious feel. Today the weather is very dry, and this moisturizer is hydrating very well without feeling heavy or greasy.

Splendide Mani Smoothing Hand Creme (SPF 8)

Blurb: Our smoothing hand-creme is a star performer that has attracted loyalty from both men and women for its enriching and moisturizing properties. Specifically formulated to alleviate chapping and dryness caused by sun exposure, windburn and other environmental aggressors, delivering the intensive hydration that dry hands need. Liquid Crystal Molecules are moisture attracting molecules that form a water-resistant shield to guard against moisture loss. Geranium, Rosewood, Cypress, Basil and Chamomile Oils soothe skin and leave it nourished. Acqua di Vita® Complex adds optimum hydration and helps protect hands from daily abuse as it restores depleted moisture.

Oh, just go out and get this! Your hands will be happy. You will be happy. If the weather in your area is at all dry, this is excellent, luxurious, soothing protection. It's rich, velvety soft and lasts (it even lasted through a hand washing). It has a nice fragrance as well as a bit of SPF. What's not to love?

I mentioned that this is from the Serenity Now Gift Set. Borghese kits are excellent values, and nice ways to treat yourself to a great selection of products. I've been eyeing the Rescue and Retreat and Simply Beautiful sets on the website. You can also check out Borghese at bloomingdales.

And now…

Even More Help For Your Hairdo: HerCut

Whoa! Here's something new to think about. The folks at HerCut have designed the first product line ever to be created for your hair cut. Check out the info I got…

Not many people know this but there are really five essential hair styles that all hair stylists need to be able to accomplish before they become a full-time hairdresser. To help keep any hair cut alive, it is essential to use products that are specifically designed for your cut, not your hair type.

HerCut was created to address the five categories of a haircut (the bob, the pixie, the shag, the blunt cut and long layers) and has created a product called a Catalyst for each style that works on a molecular level to ensure the hair works with your cut, not against it i.e. weighted, forward motion for bobs and controlled separation for shags) to maximize every style regardless of hair type.

Wednesday Stuff: Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue (review)

So my back is better today (great!); but somehow I managed to conk my head on a towel rack last night (opposite of great). Now I have some strange thing on my forehead that looks kind of like Chinese writing. So to fool myself into thinking that no one will notice the weird thing between my eyebrows, I'm wearing bangs today. Maybe they'll notice that my bangs are soft, shiny and frizz-free thanks to Shu Uemura-Art of Hair.

Essence Absolue

Blurb: Conscious of the various causes and needs of dry hair, ESSENCE ABSOLUE has been carefully designed as a multi-use elixir, repairing dry hair on an individual: Intensely hydrating leave-in conditioner for very dry/damaged hair; pre-shampoo treatment for deep, nourishing care; protection during color application, adding shine, moisture and elasticity to processed lengths & ends; use in summer time as protective oil against the sun's harmful rays (UV filter); and, ultra-shine finisher along lengths and ends. Traditionally referred to as "liquid gold," Camellia Oil is a natural detangler that provides incredibly deep nourishment and ultra-shine. Camellia Oil comes from Camellia Japonica, a centenarian tree, whose exceptional blossoms resist even the harshest of snows.

Even if I didn't have an unsightly forehead injury, I'd still be really glad I tried this! It softens my hair, adds shine and controls frizz. And it does all that without weighing my hair down. I also used this to "freshen up" my hair when going from day to evening and it was absolutely stellar. It smells nice too. I'm even thinking of trying it out as an overnight hair mask. It's a thoroughly awesome multi-purpose product!

Right now it's sold out worldwide, so if you want to order it, you can go to the website and get on the waiting list. The website also has a salon locator in case you'd like to check it out in person.

Holiday Skin Healers from Dr. David Bank

For those of you in the thick of holiday madness, here are some great tips from the author of "Beautiful Skin – Every Woman's Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age." Take a look…

Holiday Skin Healers

The holidays are a time for caroling, presents, gathering with loved ones and of course eating, drinking, celebrating too. All of this equals too little sleep, tons of exposure to cold weather for some and too much sun on tropical vacations for a few others. Between running around in the harsh weather, coming and going from parties, cooking, cleaning, and shopping, one can easily begin to slack on their daily beauty regimen leaving their skin to pay the price.

With these easy skincare tips from the foremost expert in the field of dermatology and cosmetic surgery and author of Beautiful Skin – Every Woman’s Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age, Dr. David E. Bank, you can heal your skin from post-holiday blues and recover that radiant glow for the rest of winter.

Dark Under–Eye Circles: Lack of sleep and too much alcohol has the greatest effect on the skin around the eyes, because the skin is so delicate. Broken blood vessels, which occur with inadequate amounts of sleep and late night partying, tend to show up more severely in that area leaving the skin looking tired and haggard. The quick trick is of course a good concealer but for a more long lasting treatment you should head to your dermatologist. Depending on your holiday skin problem, there is a fix. “For broken blood vessels due to sleepless nights opt for a v-beam laser and for shadowing around the eyes go with a filler to help fill in lost volume.” Dr. Bank also notes that “The effect of a good night sleep should never be underestimated.”

Puffy Face: Alcohol, salty foods, and little sleep may make for a great party but this combination can be toxic to ones skin causing puffiness to the eyes and face. “Alcohol, a salty diet and a thrown off body clock from lack of sleep are all culprits in water retention which causes swelling,” says Dr. Bank. “But it’s easy to combat puffiness by applying a cold compress with milk or tea bags with green tea for antioxidants or preparation H on your eyes for just a few minutes and by making sure you are keeping yourself fully hydrated with water.”

Dull Dry Skin: According to Dr. Bank, “Winter’s cold and the inside heat dry out skin. In order to restore lost moisture and regain that pre-holiday glow it’s important to switch your moisturizer to a stronger version and make sure that you exfoliate more often.” This will help rid the dry skin cells and keep your skin looking fresh and new. “Another way to fight dry skin is to take faster showers rather than long steaming baths and remember to moisturize your damp skin immediately when you get out to lock in the moisture.”

Post- Party Pimples: Whether you have a hectic schedule interfering with your daily beauty routine or the stress of the holidays has caused your hormones to ignite, post-holiday break-outs are common and treatable. Getting into the habit of washing your face daily is highly recommended. Dr. Bank suggests finding a product with benzoyl peroxide or salycic acid for more sensitive skin and applying directly to the affected area.

This Week’s Foundation: Laura Mercier Silk Crème (review)

First…ow. I am having back pain warnings today. Which means staying home, doing stretches and applying ice packs. Not the most fun way to spend a Tuesday, but better than having a full blown flare up. I definitely need something pretty to think about. Even though today might be a bad day for my back, I think it’s a perfectly fine day for our foundation of the week. This week, it’s brought to you by Laura Mercier.

Silk Crème Foundation

Blurb: This long-wearing foundation evens out skin tone as it increases skin luminosity and clarity for a radiant glow. The rich, creamy texture glides over the skin effortlessly for perfect application and blendability. Perfect for rosacea and hard to cover pigmentation. Ideal for all skin types, and oil free.

This foundation stands out because of its amazing texture and wonderful coverage. It has a gorgeous silky feel (hence, the name I’m guessing), glides on, and blends incredibly well. It also provides exceptional coverage. This is a perfect formula for those days when you need extra...um...help, but don’t want to look too makeup-ey (I know…not a word). It dries to a matte finish with a little bit of light diffusing properties. It’s really lovely and has good staying power.

As always, I urge you to check out the website and see what’s going on. Maybe even take a look at some of the snazzy holliday gifts and palettes. Laura Mercier can also be found at Sephora, Amazon, and fine department stores like Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales.

Shiny Times: L’Oréal Paris Vive Pro Glossy Curls Spray Gel (review)

Well it's officially holiday party time. It's actually officially past holiday party time, but I'm a little late to the…wait for it…party. (Sorry, had to do it.).

One of the things that makes me crazy is when I get my hair looking all nice and fancy; then I step out the door, drive to my destination, check my hair in the mirror, and wonder what the hay-uhl happened to my cute hairdo. Well, this has been happening a whole lot less lately because I stumbled on a fab, inexpensive hair product from the folks (or "gens" as the French would say…) at L’Oréal Paris.

Vive Pro Glossy Curls Spray Gel

Blurb: Vive Pro Glossy Style Glossy Curls Spray Gel defines and contours curls with a long-lasting hold and glossy shine.

I actually tried this by accident. I bought it without really looking at it and was using it to practice some scary costume hair. Only my hair refused to look scary. Instead of frizzy and hag-like, it looked all polished and glamorous. Whoa! So I smartened up and tried it out when I wanted to look nice. And I did look nice! This stuff keeps my hair in place, but it also makes my curls look soft, shiny, defined and bouncy. And there is hardly any build up! It also seems to work really well on wet hair too (I tried towel drying, spraying and scrunching; and got excellent results).

Check out the L’Oréal Paris website and enter the Big City Adventure Sweepstakes. You may also want to check the special offers page for coupons, promotions, etc. L’Oréal can be found at grocery stores, drugstores like CVS, duane reade and Walgreens, and sites like drugstore.com.

Have a Shiny Monday!

Saturday Night Drama: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (review and SALE)

Oh lordy, it is late! Way too late to be reviewing beauty products? No sirree! I have spent most of the day at the mall trying to finish up my holiday shopping. Yikes! Somehow I am still not finished, though. Which means more shopping. But tomorrow is another day* and I need to finish up this one. Which means writing my review. Today’s (er, tonight’s) fine beauty item is brought to you by Origins.

Clear Improvement® Active Charcoal Mask

Blurb: When environmental toxins, dirt and debris get under your skin, its waste-filtering system gets jammed, pores get clogged, skin looks cloudy. Nature’s complexion clean-up crew gets to the bottom of skins overcast condition and clears the way for it to act its best. Activated Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Without all that “stuff” down there, skin “breathes a sigh of relief.”

Well that is a pretty dramatic, action-packed blurb, isn’t it? But this mask deserves it – it’s pretty impressive. This product does exactly what it claims – it absolutely thoroughly and completely cleans your pores. Basically, you spread this black goo all over your face, wait until it dries, and then rinse it off. After rinsing, you look in the mirror and gasp in amazement. Of course now that I use it regularly, my pores stay clearer so I don’t have quite the high drama I did in the beginning. I use it just about every single Saturday night of my life, though. So instead of drama, I have unclogged pores and clearer skin.

And just in case you need a bit more excitement this Saturday night; Origins is having their Friends and Family Offer right now! Enter the code, DecFF, to get 20% off of your order! There are a few exclusions, so visit the website for details.

Good night!

*I just realized that by the time I press the "publish" button it will officially be Sunday morning. But since I haven't gone to bed yet, I'm still going to pretend it's Saturday night.

From the "WTF?...OMG!...Really?" file (Episode Two)

Once again, immaturity rears its silly head and I need to take a break from all the lovely grown-up beauty products and talk about…weird, useless crap.

In Episode One, we visited one of my favorite websites (Stupid.com) and I showed you all kinds of fun beauty products like Cheetos Lip Balm and Toilet Bowl Lip Gloss. But surely you didn't think that was all there was, did you? Oh no! Of course there's more. As long as there are people sitting in cubicles across America with too way much free time; new and fabulously weird things will continue to be invented.

Of course, the pinnacle of weirdness and uselessness will always be Cocktail Weenies Bubble Gum.

But this is a beauty website. So today we'll be visiting the folks at perpetual kid for our very un-grownup beauty items.

CHILDISH LIP-SMACKING FUN

Corn Dog Lip Balm

Blurb: Our luscious Corndog Lip Balm will keep your lips plump and moist just like a hot dog inside that delicious fried corn bread batter! Great for friends who love frankfurters.

Absinthe Lip Balm

Blurb: Have your lips had a rough day? Let them unwind with a thin coat of our Absinthe Lip Balm. The delicious anise aroma will have them perked up and puckering in no time. Great for fans of green fairies!

Also on this site, Wasabe Lip Balm, Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls Lip Balm,

BATHE IRRESPONSIBLY

Morning Sucks Soap

Blurb: Close those freakin' shades! I'm being blinded by the freakin' sun! And where the hell's my coffee? You call this coffee??? Our original Morning Sucks Soap is made with extra fancy, pure vegetable base Cyprus and orange peel. It's the ultimate little luxury gift for anyone who bathes, gets dirty or just wishes to smell fabulous.

Waffle and Syrup Soap

Blurb: Smells and looks so much like the real thing you'll just want to take a little bite! Breakfast is always the best way to start your day and what could be better than a yummy melt-in-your mouth waffle?

Hot Dog and Bun Soap

Blurb: So realistic looking you might think you could eat it! Nostalgic memories of baseball games and beach vendor hot dogs will leave your mouth watering and maybe make you break out the tongs and fire your grill up! Great gift for a baseball fan!

Okay, the hot dog soap comes pretty darn close to the bubble gum! While you're at it, check out Sushi Soap Set and Chocolate Chip Cookie Soap

EAU DE JEUVENILLE

Love Me - Necco Sweethearts Cologne

Blurb: The most delicate of the Necco Sweethearts, this is a transparent and light fruity floral containing orange, lemon, bergamot, peach, white rose, ylang, subtle skin musk and soft vanilla, to be shared, but only up close and personal.

Cannabis Flower Cologne Spray

Blurb: The Cannabis Flower which is at the heart of this fragrance is illegal to possess. This cologne captures the scent of shredded flowers from Cannabis Sativa, the hemp plant. Cannabis buds are reputed by herbalists to have healing properties. You decide. Slightly floral, slightly spicy, this fragrance has a deep and penetrating attraction.

Whiskey Tobacco Cologne Spray

Blurb: It's as simple as this. We think this blend of Whiskey and Tobacco Smoke is a great masculine scent. And sometime it's nice to be reminded of your Dad.

Maybe give these a spritz too: Call Me - Necco Sweetheart's Cologne, Sawdust Cologne Spray and Birthday Cake Cologne Spray

Thursday Lipstick Party (aka Random Lipstick Post and Review)

It seems that I have become a lipstick fiend over the last few months. I still love my glosses, but lately I have been downright fascinated with the super grownup, glam, ladylike vibe of the lipstick tube. (Most of you know this already, since my blog has reflected my lipstick craze.)

Well believe it or not, there are still quite a few tubes that I tried out, but still haven't found time to review. So in the hopes of getting "caught up," I decided to talk about a few of them (non-reds!) today. So let's get the lipstick party started!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick (In Amethyst Shimmer)

Blurb: “Intense-Wear” formula enriched with 50% more long-wear color-boost pigments. Lasts up to 8 hours! Vitamins C and E provide essential antioxidant protection.

I don’t usually pay attention to fragrances in lip products, but this one smelled really good – but with no flavor. The formula is very creamy and the color is a mauve/pink with a soft shine. I like it during this time of year because it's a nice break from the usual fall/winter colors. It feels silky smooth going on and wears well.

Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick With Sila-Silk Technology (In Exquisite)

Blurb: Indulge lips with silky, rich color and lasting moisturization. Our innovative, exclusive sila-silk formula is enhanced with light reflecting polymers and silica for exceptional shine and flawless application. Vitamin E and Tahitian flower provide non-stop hydration and plush, cushion-like comfort. It’s like moisturizer for your lips! Winner of a Self Magazine Healthy Beauty Award and a Glam Beauty Award Nominee for Best Lipstick.

This is a beautiful Pinky-Brown color. A great everyday shade, and a wonderful formula. Smashbox combines moist shine with pretty good staying power. (And I know I'm not supposed to talk about reds in this post, but if you come across "Lavish," snap one up…just sayin).

Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick (In Cranberry Cream)

Blurb: The creamiest, richest, smoothest lip colour you can imagine. Our revolutionary gel formula delivers the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a lipstick. Drenches lips in moist, lush colour that glides on buttery-soft, feels luxuriously smooth.

This is a great holiday shade. It's a sheer, yet vibrant cranberry in Clinique's super comfy, shiny, moisturizing Butter Shine formula. I love the soft shine combined with the flattering (and festive) cranberry color.

Laura Mercier Shimmer Lip Color (in Fresh Brown)

Blurb: Laura Mercier Lip Colour - Shimmer now changes the way you feel about lipstick in one swipe in the newest, revolutionary lip colour formula. The wide range of shades and finishes enhances your lips appearance, protects them from the elements, provides hydration and cares for the lips like skincare.

This is another excellent everyday shade. It's a pretty, shimmery brown that goes with absolutely everything. Instead of a glossy shine, it has a sophisticated shimmer. I especially like wearing this outdoors in the colder months because it provides a bit of a shield against the elements.

Urban Decay Lipstick (in Oil Slick)

Blurb: Lips are sealed with decadently creamy, long-lasting color, a wide variety of textures, and a sweet lick of crème caramel. Armored by a menacing dagger, our Lipstick is a weapon of love.

Yes…it's black. I'm a huge fan of UD everything, including their lipsticks. The formula is fantastic and this shade is especially awesome. It's a sheer black with a silver shimmer. It looks fabulous (and flattering) by itself and thoroughly glams up any other color you might want to layer it over. (BTW: UD also has shadow, pencil and liquid liner in this shade…also awesome.)

I still have a few unsung lipstick heroes sitting on my vanity waiting for their moment of glory, but I'll save them for another time. Thank you for coming to my little lipstick party, and happy Thursday!
