More for Your Monday: Cosmedix Skin Care (review)

So after all the info I’ve bombarded you with this morning, I’m finally getting to my review. And it’s more bombardment. But totally bombardment-worthy. I tried out a whole bunch of skin care from Cosmedix and loved the results.

Purity Clean Exfoliating Cleanser

These four items also come together in a Prep Kit (available through a skin care professional). In addition to the four above, I also tried out the Clarity Serum.

I am so glad I tried out this line! For someone like me (oily, breakout prone, sensitive), it is a revelation to find this kind of powerful skincare. First, the Cleanser. When I saw “exfoliating” on the label and smelled the mint fragrance; I worried that it might be harsh or drying. But it wasn’t. It cleaned well and my skin felt soothed, fresh and balanced. The Serum…also great. My skin has started “behaving” better while using it. By the way, this Serum is for morning and evening use. At night I added the Exfoliator; and during the day, I used the Moisturizer. The Moisturizer feels great (the fragrance reminded me of play-doh – not a bad thing). It has kind of a cushiony feel to it. Not heavy or greasy, but my cheeks felt kind of pillowy. I liked it a lot. I also liked the SPF. 2-3 times per week, I used the Refinishing Treatment. All of these products together really made a noticeable difference in my skin. I experienced some sloughing/peeling in the beginning which was followed by baby-butt-smooth skin. Awesome.

But wait, there’s more! I was so impressed, that I also checked out the Mystic Hydrating Treatment.

Blurb: Utilizing heavy water (D2O) in place of pore-clogging oils, Mystic is a superior moisturizer for oily and blemish-prone skin. Applied mornings or throughout the day as needed, this refreshing mist offers intense hydration and protection for sensitive and problem skin and can also be used to set mineral makeup.

I wish I’d tried this out earlier in the summer. It’s oil free and great for breakout prone skin. It’s also light, soothing, spritzes on in a minute and doesn’t clog my pores. I have been taking this with me during the day because it’s so convenient. Great in the morning or evening and especially fab when a refreshing spritz in the middle of the day is needed.

Stylin on a Saturday: Carol's Daughter Khoret Amen (review)

I am becoming convinced that Carol’s Daughter products can do nothing but completely rock. So far I haven't met one I don't like. And today we’re talking hair care. Short version: my hair is happy. Long version follows…

Khoret Amen Shampoo with Sea Moss

Just so we’re clear: it is before 9am (which btw is morning)…and I have…date hair. That’s right, folks. You know, all soft and shiny and behaving the way it’s supposed to. I do not happen to have a date this morning (that would be weird); but I could have one if I wanted to. My hair looks that good.

Needless to say these two products have done fabulous work. The shampoo removed all the buildup and got the manageability started. It’s hard to describe the fragrance: pungent, earthy, herbal and kind of woodsy. It was strong in the shower, but most of the fragrance faded after I rinsed. The leave-in conditioner is one of the best I’ve tried. It feels light and weightless; but my curly hair is shiny, pretty, soft and tame. Good job, Khoret Amen!

Clean and Pretty: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (review)

Another great discovery this summer has been Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare. Liz Earle is dedicated to bringing you their amazing high-quality, natural products with integrity, service and a deep respect for the environment.

A while back, I reviewed some foot care products (fab); and I recently tried out the Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser.

This wonderful cleanser also comes with two muslin cloths. The cloths are washable, durable and reusable, and boost the cleaning power. I filled a basin with hot water, applied the cleanser to dry skin and massaged the cream on my face and neck. I rinsed and wrung a cloth in the hot water and wiped the cleanser gently off. Then I rinsed completely with the remaining water. The result was super clean, super soft skin. The cleanser is extremely rich and gentle, and took off every bit of makeup (these days I'm wearing the heavy-duty, long-wearing stuff). This is also one of the few cleansers that is truly gentle enough for the eye area. It removed every smidgen of my eye makeup without being irritating at all. I love that this cleanser is so effective and so lovely to use!

More Candy: Stila Lips (review)

I heart the internet. I heart the mail. I went online found the most fabulous organizer to tame my ridiculous crazy out of control collection of lip sticks and glosses. Take a look at the Acrylic Organizer from Acrylic Home Design.

Huh? Yeah? Are ya feelin it? I ordered two and they arrived yesterday and now every damn lip product I own is organized and tidy. I pretty much blew everything off and sat around organizing my vanity for most of the evening (glamorous). Now it's like there's a little candy box with all the pretty colors organized and visible.

While I was at it, I took time and try out (and revisit) some lip sticks and glosses from Stila.

Long Wear Lip Color

These are a great cross between a gloss and stick. They feel really lovely and soft on the lips and have better than expected staying power. Nice fragrance too. Some favorites are "Paramour" (a medium brick red) and "Rendezvous" (a brownish red with a bit of shimmer). Both Paramour and Rendezvous are pretty highly pigmented. "Darling" is a pale, pearly pink. Very demure.

Lip Glaze Stick

Something else from the Land of Really Good Ideas. If you're a fan of the regular lip glazes, you will want to add a few of these to your collection. Great for your bag, because you can take one out and apply a quick swoosh any time. "Peach" looks like a bright coral in the package, but on the lips it’s a delicate peach. "Fruit Punch" is my new favorite pink. It looks sweet and sexy and has lots of shimmer (kind of innocent, but kind of not). BTW: These are seriously on sale right now and I am planning to snap up a bunch!

Lip Color

Now we’re talking bona fide lipsticks! Yeah! Tons of great colors and formulas. "Pixie" is a creamy pale mauve/tan. It has a great hip 60’s vibe to it (rock this with a dramatic cat eye). "Jo" is a lovely sheer plum: not too light, not too dark…just right.

High Shine Lip Color

Lately, I've been trying so much awesome stuff and hearing about so many new launches that it's making me a little dizzy. There's just so much! Couldn't decide if I was a deer in the headlights or a kid in a candy store.

One of the yummiest looking candy stores I've come across is Elizabeth Grant. Super luxurious skincare (as well as beauty and fragrance). A while back I reviewed some items from the Caviar line (loved!), and today I'm going to share about some of her Biocollasis™ items.

I feel so unbelievably pampered when I use anything by Elizabeth Grant. The packaging is luxurious, and the feel of her creams and serums is out-of-this-world rich and velvety. All three products above feature the proprietary Torricelumn moisturizing compound and are packed with skin loving nutrients.

The serum has the highest concentration of the Biocollasis compound. I loved the way this felt (and the way it disappeared immediately into my skin). I looked a little smoother and my pores were less "pronounced." The eye cream is also fabulous. Rich and smooth; but still sinks in quickly and hydrates all day. I also noticed some de-puffing (very welcome now that all this August allergy business is starting up). The day moisturizer is absolutely heavenly. Since I have to be careful about breakouts, I probably can't use this all the time. But if that's not an issue for you, you will love using this. It feels amazing: velvety and hydrating as it goes on, then absorbing immediately. My makeup glided on over it and my skin was soft all day.

Haven't tried any of the Beauty and Fragrance yet; but I'm betting they're equally pampering and awesome. And there really is a huge selection: makeup, mud masks, bath oils, glosses…CANDY!

Bless Yourself! Get some Trish McEvoy Eye Base Essentials (review)

Ah-choo! All this rain, warm weather and general August-ness is bringing about…allergies. Boo! I consider myself lucky to live in a time when there are plenty of drugs for this; but I'd still rather do without the stuffiness, sneezing, itchy eyes and congestion thankyouverymuch.

One of the most annoying things about allergies is waking up with irritated, puffy, red (okay, unattractive) eyes. And since I'm a snooze button junkie, I don't always have time to wait until everything is back to normal before putting on my makeup. But riding to the rescue of my vanity is a little tube of Eye Base Essentials from Trish McEvoy.

I know this might sound like an extra step; but this is one of the best things you could possibly have around. It evens out and brightens the eyelids perfectly (while managing to look natural and fresh). I use it under shadow, but it also looks great by itself. I dab a little on my lid with the wand, then gently blend with my finger. And presto, my red, irritated eyelids look smooth and fresh. (It dries very quickly, so I recommend doing one eye at a time.) It holds the shadow all day, and it doesn't crease, flake or fade. And since it's water-resistant; a teary-eyed sneezing fit in the middle of the day isn't going to do any damage. Awesome!

Thoroughly Modern Concepts: Privé Concept Vert Hair Care (rave review)

It's kind of amazing that I blog. Generally I am the very last person to get on board with any kind of new technology/application. I was last to get a cordless phone, cable, email, a cell phone, etc. My TV is about 15 years old. Of course, once I'm dragged (kicking and screaming) into the current decade; all my complaining turns to "wow, how did I ever live without my cordless phone, cable, email, cell phone, etc.?"

Now once again, I have been thrown on to the bandwagon and am finally (gasp!) texting. Oooh. I'm so modern. I'm so today. After digging in my heels like a two-year-old; I reluctantly started texting last month (complaining all the while). But as the weeks have gone by, I'm suddenly (omg) initiating texts. I've stopped rolling my eyes. And the other night, texting turned my tedious train ride into something super fun, good and…repeatable. I am so there with the texting now. I am Thoroughly Modern Maria.

So…um…hair care? Texting? Wha?

Yeah, yeah, I know. But it's actually not such a far reach (compared to my usual reachiness). Maybe not everyone gets squirley-eyed at gadgets like I do; but there are lots of folks out there who for what ever reason, dig in their heels when it comes to this modern, newfangled safety/ecology/green/sustainable business. And of course everyone generally calms down when good things like better gas mileage, cleaner air, safer products, etc. start to materialize. I really think it will be an awesome thing when green/sustainable/earth-friendly becomes the ordinary thing that everyone just takes for granted. OK, time to climb off my soap box (Get it? Soap? Shampoo? Okay, sorry.)

First, the shampoo: un-freaking-believably luxurious. I used this after a really long, hot, grubby day; and my frizzy, tangled up hair just melted into submission. My hair was ridiculously soft (but not weighed down). The conditioner is also just crazy excellent. It softened and detangled immediately. My hair looked shinier and bouncier all day. The packaging – also spectacular. The pump creates a thick foam that's easy to apply (instead of running through your fingers and down the drain). And a little is all you need (about ½ pump for my medium length hair).

Just in case I haven't been clear: these are awesome, fabulous, amazing hair care products. A+.

I'm thinking that maybe the rest of Privé may be equally impressive, so I'm planning to check out the website some more. I will use the newfangled internet to do this. For my blog. (btw: I still have no immediate plans to tweet. But you never know what may be next. I think my tape recorder is starting to go.)

Those Lips…Those Eyes: Flirt! (review)

Besides the opening (mentioned below); Atlanta is also home to my best friend from high school (I've known her since I was twelve). Besides being my friend, Kim has been and still is one of the savviest bargain hunters ever. She's also extremely stylish and unbelievably picky (um, I mean discerning…sorry Kim). Her house looks amazing. She looks amazing. But she doesn't spend amazing amounts of money.

One of her absolute favorite go-to places is Kohl's. I'd never been, so when I visited her in Atlanta, she took me and I was amazed at the deals. Amazed. We looked at everything. Of course, I made sure to take a nice long look in the beauty aisle and was really impressed. Since then, I've gotten a chance to try out some shadows and glosses from one of the beauty brands, Flirt! Cosmetics.

Plushious Liquid Velvet Lipcolor

This gloss comes in 22 shades ranging from sheer to highly pigmented. I love the little bag-friendly tubes and the very high shine. "La-La Land" looked at first like it would be too bright for me. It’s a shimmery coral that looked almost fluorescent in the bottle. But when I tried it, it was actually a soft, fresh coral that looked bright without being harsh. "Nude Kiss" is exactly what it sounds like - a sweet, pale neutral that can be used by itself for a natural shine or layered over a deeper color. “Sexy” is a more pigmented shade. It’s a warm flattering plum that stands out a little without being overpowering.

Eyes Rock Dreamy Eyes Eyeshadow Palettes (limited edition)

More great packaging (very bag worthy). A tidy little rectangle when closed. But it slides open to reveal a convenient mirror, shadows and brush. Each palette has a really complete look with four excellent colors that work well together or separately. These were great quality shadows with excellent staying power.

"Poppin Peach" - Four neutrals: a pale champage, a pale peach, gorgeous bronze and matte brown.

"Boombox Bronze" – My favorite: sophisticated and subtle metallic shades. A pale gold, a darker gold, a deep bronze and a gorgeous dark copper. All of these colors looked great by themselves and worked together flawlessly.

"Rockin’ Purple" - Pretty and feminine without being overly cute. A super pale pink, a darker pink, a shimmery plum and a deeper plum. Enough color to pop, but something you could still pull off for daytime.

Lessons in Perfection: AminoGenesis Perfect Reflection (review)

This just in: I'm not perfect.

I thought I had already learned this deep, meaningful lesson and was well on my way to enlightened maturity.

Not so much.

Last night I got deeply frustrated with myself (music related…of course) and wasted several hours being a pouty, panicky whiner. Not pretty. Sometimes personal growth sucks.

Before I start gushing, I want to make sure you know that these products are significantly richer than what I normally use. Since I have breakout prone skin; I made sure to introduce them very gradually into my regimen. If you are also prone to breakouts; be sure to check the ingredients for anything that you might be sensitive to. Of course, if this isn’t an issue for you; you can just go right ahead and start the full protocol.

That said, these products really made a difference in the appearance and texture of my skin. The cleanser has ingredients to exfoliate, but you would never know it from the soft gentle feel of the lather. It removed my makeup and left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. The eye concentrate was fabulous. It disappeared almost immediately, provided moisture and noticeably shrank my morning puffiness. What a find.

The two creams are also stellar. The Advanced Firming Cream (evening) absolutely melted into my skin. I couldn’t wait to put this on at night. The texture is unbelievable and my skin just drank it up. The Advanced Moisture Defense (day) cream also did a fab job. It absorbed immediately and had a slight firming effect right away. It didn’t interfere with my makeup, and kept my skin well hydrated. All that plus SPF!

Similar to the stones used in the popular “hot stone massage,” the shells are polished smooth, heated and used as massage tools to provide a relaxing spa experience.

Act Naturally: One With Nature Dead Sea Mineral Lotions (review)

So first of all…um…duh. I tried to have this post automatically publish at 11:00am this morning. Except that I typed in 11:00pm instead. Apparently this makes a difference. (Who knew?) Truly luxurious. Even though it has a thin texture (like a lotion), it softens like a rich cream. This lotion made my skin supple and smooth without being sticky or greasy. I also tried it on my sandal-weary feet in the evening and loved how it felt. The delicate lavender scent was also a big plus before bedtime.

Fragrance Free Lotion

Why am I raving about something unscented? Well because I got all the same soothing, softening goodness I mentioned above and it didn’t compete with any fragrance. I can slather this on before going out and still use perfume. Also, since I can’t use scented products at work (co-workers are sensitive), this is perfect for my desk. Actually, this perfect for anyone who is sensitive to fragrances.

Totally Tubular, Dudettes: New COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara (review)

Ya know, back in the day, we actually used those words. Frequently. Good times…
