Power Week: Liz Earle Hand Repair™, Superbalm™ & Cotton Rich Gloves (review)

Happy Thursday everyone! Today it’s all about the hands. I’m feeling pretty cheerful; but this winter weather, dry indoor heat, and hand washing is making my hands a little bit cranky. So let’s talk about some fine hand care. From Liz Earle.

Hand Repair™

Blurb: This powerful, non-greasy cream provides instant protection and relief for your hands. Helps to condition nails, soften cuticles and protect against dehydration. With panthenol (pro-vitamin B5), soothing echinacea, toning hops, plus antioxidants beta-carotene and natural source vitamin E. Suitable for all skin types.

Superbalm

Blurb: Our ‘emergency’ skin salve rescues and soothes skin. Made from pure plant oils and natural waxes plus shea butter, it gently softens and calms dry skin on hands, heels, elbows and lips and also helps condition nails and cuticles. Warm Superbalm in the palms of your hands before applying to nails and dry areas as and when needed. Naturally active ingredients include vitamin E, rosehip oil to help lock in moisture and neroli oil for its uplifting and restorative properties.

Cotton Rich Gloves

Blurb: The perfect addition to your hand care regime, use these gloves to get the most from your treatment.

For me, a nice hand cream is one of the easiest ways to pamper myself. During the winter, I keep some in my bag, at my desk, near my bed and in a coffee table basket. Sometimes just the fragrance can de-stress me immediately.

This trio from Liz Earle is super pampering. The Hand Repair smells amazing – it’s a gorgeous, herbal/lavender blend. I also like the way it feels. It absorbs quickly, and softens; but there’s absolutely no greasy feeling. The Superbalm is a fabulous rescue for really dry spots, dry cuticles, rough elbows, heels, etc.

And here’s an ultra powerhouse hand treatment: I give my hands a good scrub to exfoliate. Then right before bedtime, I combine a bit of Superbalm with a generous amount of Hand Repair, slather it on my hands, put the gloves on and keep them on overnight. In the morning, my hands are amazingly soft and smooth.

The website has plenty of things besides hand care, so take a look. Be sure to check out the hint-worthy Valentine's Gifts, and check out the Defy Dull Skin Offer.

And now that your hands are all soft and pretty, you can hold your disposable lighter up while you listen to today’s fine power ballad. Brought to us by one of my favorite bands of all time…Queen. I’m embedding the live version due to the additional awesomeness (especially around 2:40). Enjoy!

“Let us cling together as the years go by…Oh my love, my love…”

Sigh.

Midweek Moisturizer Report: Liz Earle Skin Repair Moisturiser™ Light

Okay, I know I don’t usually have a midweek moisturizer report. I just thought it would sound all newsy and official. I got a note today that began with “Dear Editor.” Cool, huh? I’m practically a media mogul!

Before I slip completely into silliness, how about an excellent item? This one is from Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare.

Skin Repair Moisturiser™ Light – Combination/oily

Blurb: Light and gentle, this easily absorbed moisturising lotion is ideal for combination, oily or problem skin. This finely balanced blend of naturally active skin-conditioning ingredients includes borage oil (a rich source of the essential fatty acid GLA), echinacea, hops, avocado oil, panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) and natural antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin E to replace lost moisture and help protect your skin, leaving it soft and smooth with a naturally healthy glow. Includes borage and avocado to lightly moisturise and balance the skin.

One of the cool things about trying so many products is knowing what’s out there when friends, family, acquaintances, etc. tell me they’re looking for something. An even cooler thing, though, is trying out something that works exactly perfectly for me! Yay!!

This moisturizer fits so many of my needs it’s dizzying. I have combination to oily skin that’s also sensitive, prone to breakouts, and still requires a good moisturizer (on account of the fact that I’m no longer in my teens…or twenties…or…never mind). This moisturizer smells nice, has a lovely texture, absorbs quickly, doesn’t cause breakouts, feels weightless, hydrates, and even minimizes my pores slightly.

What’s not to love? (Answer: nothing, this is an awesome light moisturizer).

There are also skin repair moisturizers for normal/combination and dry/sensitive skin. Check out the website for details. While you’re there, be sure to browse the holiday gifts, stocking fillers, and read the expert tips.

Hair Care Friday: Liz Earle Botanical Shine Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

Yes, you read it right. The folks at Liz Earle (makers of fabulous skincare) have launched an awesome hair care line!

Botanical Shine Shampoo (for all hair types)

Blurb: With West African shea butter, natural source vitamin E, shine-boosting apple and orange extracts plus naturally derived cleansers, our shampoo gently cleans without stripping to leave hair soft, shiny and smooth. Contains no sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate.

Botanical Shine Conditioner (for dry or damaged hair)

Blurb: Specially formulated with West African shea butter, yangu oil, blue seakale and shine-boosting apple and orange extracts, our ultra-rich colour safe conditioner leaves dry or damaged hair hydrated, under control, soft and smooth.

This is truly amazing hair care - I was absolutely wowed! Just go get some.

The shampoo has a rich, gorgeous lather (a little bit goes a long way). It detangles slightly, and cleans very well without stripping or leaving any residue. The conditioner finishes the detangling, and adds softness and shine. Both have a fabulous herbal fragrance.

Using them was a pleasure, and I can’t fully describe to you how wonderful my hair felt! My dry, color-treated, curly hair became shiny, bouncy and baby soft. There was no frizz and no fuzz – I didn’t even use leave-in products! I couldn’t stop touching my hair all day – it just felt so good!

The Shampoo is for all hair types, and the conditioners are formulated for normal, dry/damaged and oily hair. Take a look at the website for more information as well as stellar reviews. Don’t forget to look at the current autumn & winter offer, latest newsletter, and the holiday sneak peak.

Brighten Up! Liz Earle Eye Bright and Brightening Treatment Mask (review)

I’m feeling all kinds of cheerful (and...bright) today. Despite being woken up at midnight by arguing neighbors (and being a little short on sleep); I’m feeling extremely happy.

First, a good friend who hasn’t been feeling well seems to be on the mend. And secondly, I spent a whole weekend doing almost nothing. After weeks of running around, events and travel; I stayed home for two days and accomplished nothing more taxing than a home manicure. I also got caught up on episodes of Mad Men and Project Runway (btw: how much does Mondo rule?).

So, doesn’t it just figure that today I’m going to talk about something bright and cheerful? (Answer: yes, it does.) Today’s bit of brightness is from the extremely fabulous folks at Liz Earle.

Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Lotion

Blurb: Wake up and revitalise eyes with cotton wool pads soaked in this gentle, soothing herbal lotion before using Cleanse & Polish. Containing naturally active ingredients including eyebright – a tiny alpine herb, witch hazel, organic aloe vera and cornflower to help tone, cool and refresh tired, puffy eyes. Apply to a cotton wool pad to clean and wake up your eyes first thing. Naturally active ingredients include the herb eyebright to help reduce puffiness and dark shadows, toning witch hazel, cooling aloe vera and cornflower to soothe.

Brightening Treatment Mask

Blurb: Our fast-acting ‘minute’ mask instantly revitalises. Containing stimulating camphor oil and toning witch hazel to help give your skin a natural-looking radiance. Use in the morning or whenever a quick fix is needed. Naturally active ingredients include aloe vera to help cool and soothe, toning witch hazel and purifying white clay.

Just in case you didn’t get a nice relaxing weekend (or good news); these two products can still get you moving towards the happy place. Eyebright is one of the nicest eye products I’ve tried in a long time. It soothes, refreshes, de-puffs, minimizes redness, and even removes eye makeup. During allergy season (aka: now), it’s especially lovely.

The Treatment Mask is a wonderful way to instantly perk up your complexion. It purifies and tones; and it also softens and soothes. It immediately evens out my skin tone, minimizes pores, and gives me a nice glow. It’s not for super sensitive skin; but for everyone else, it’s an awesome revitalizing boost.

Check out the website. Right now Eyebright is part of the current autumn & winter offer. You can also take a look at the latest latest newsletter, and the holiday sneak peak.

I feel the need to extend the cheerfulness a bit. Here’s a picture of Mondo’s completely rad “Ready To Wear” winning look. Go Mondo! You da man!

Your Personal Morning Spa: Liz Earle Energising Body Wash, Scrub & Hip and Thigh Gel (review)

This is for the mornings when it feels like you have to peel yourself out of bed. You know…those mornings. Step right this way for a little spa detour…from Liz Earle.

Spa Step 1: Energising Body Wash

Blurb: Start your day with this revitalising all-over wash. Pure plant extracts and gentle foaming agents from corn and coconut clean and refresh, while sweet orange and 8 pure essential oils delicately fragrance your skin.

Spa Step 2: Energizing Body Scrub (previously reviewed)

Blurb: This uplifting, invigorating and refreshingly scented Body Scrub exfoliates and cleanses, leaving your skin renewed, revitalised and super-smooth.

Spat Step 3: Energising Hip and Thigh Gel

Blurb: Energise your circulation and help eliminate toxins by massaging our stimulating gel into hips, thighs, tummies and arms for smoother, more toned skin.

I used the Body Scrub a while back and absolutely loved it. Eventually I got around to trying all three items from the Energising Range, and realized how amazing they are together.

The Body Wash is my absolute favorite of the three. The fragrance (lots of rose and sweet orange) is gorgeous; and the gel cleaned well, rinsed easily and left my skin feeling petal smooth. If you’re in a rush, a quick shower with this Body Wash is an instant pick-me-up.

If you have a little more time, though, follow up with the other two. The scrub is gentle, effective, also smells wonderful, and is super moisturizing. I’ve never used a Hip and Thigh gel, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I applied it all over and got more softness, and yet another lovely fragrance layer (this one is light and spicy). All three products moisturize and the fragrances are feminine and invigorating. Using them together makes me feel rejuvenated and very pampered.

For more info, check out the website (and the new Autumn and Winter Offer).

In Need of More Soothing: Liz Earle Sun Shade Botanical Aftersun Gel (review)

Eeek! It’s already after 9:00pm, and I’m just now writing my review!

I had an amazing, fantastic, wondermous weekend…and then today was a frazzle-fest. So instead of my original plan, I’m going to write about something soooothing. From Liz Earle.

Sun Shade Botanical Aftersun Gel

Blurb: Cooling, soothing and skin softening, this calming gel has a base of organic aloe to help revitalize skin after sun exposure. Divinely uplifting fragrance of premium high altitude lavender. Contains skin cooling ingredients including organic aloe vera and cucumber. Natural source vitamin E for valuable protection from the environment.

I avoid the sun, so I haven’t had a sunburn (or even much of a tan) in over 10 years. But it just so happens I have a sun-worshipping friend who routinely ignores my “helpful” (aka annoying and intrusive) suggestions about sunscreen and the avoidance of sun bathing.

During an especially hot and sunny weekend, my friend's shoulders and chest got a little pink; so instead of saying “I told you so;” I extended my lily-white hand in friendship, and asked her to try out this product.

She absolutely loved it! She said it was cooling, soothing and smelled wonderful. It made her skin feel soft (without any heaviness or greasiness). And I have to admit, her previously exposed skin looked very supple and hydrated all evening. Now don’t go thinking this is some kind of crazy “license to tan;” but if your skin gets a little too much solar exposure, having this at your disposal will make everything a whole lot better.

I also tried it out on my own arms and legs and loved the way it felt. The light lavender fragrance is gorgeous, and the gel has an immediate refreshing cooling sensation (but no tightness). It felt lovely at the end of the day. This would be an excellent treat any time the elements (dry heat, wind, salt water, chlorine, etc.) stress your skin.

For more info, check out the website. In addition to the amazing selection of products, there's a helpful kits and gifts section. (And don’t forget to check out the Summer offer.)

Don't Leave Home Without It: Overnight Travel Kit from Liz Earle (review)

I recently contributed a guest blogger article about some great travel items. I haven't had to travel anywhere for months; so I haven't thought all that much about travel-friendliness lately. But I do have a few short trips coming up at the end of the summer; so soon it will be time to focus on portable beauty again. This one couldn't wait though - it's a fabulous kit from Liz Earle.

NEW Overnight Travel Kit

Blurb: Don’t leave home without this kit of 7 handy-sized moisturising and brightening beauty must-haves. The mini traveler bag contains Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (with 2 muslin cloths), Instant Boost Skin Tonic, Skin Repair Moisturiser, Brightening Treatment Mask, Orange Flower Botanical Body Wash, Nourishing Botanical Body Cream, and Hand Repair.

I am in crazy love with this kit! It's practical, luxurious, and almost makes me want to leave the comfort of my home and drag myself around the country during the hottest time of the year (almost). There are seven fabulous skin and body care items to keep you feeling and looking gorgeous while you're away. Instead of paring down your beauty regimen while you travel, you can fully pamper yourself.

I've already reviewed the Cleanse and Polish, and I have detailed reviews of some of the other items coming up; but rest assured that all of the items in this kit are wonderful. I especially loved the Body Wash, Brightening Treatment Mask and Hand Repair. All seven items (and the cloths) fit neatly and easily into the very well-made travel bag. And if your plans include airplanes; you can easily toss everything into your see-through bag (you'll even have room left over). Even if you don't have any long trips planned, this is great to have on hand for overnight stays, all day visits – or just to try out a great selection of Liz Earle products. This kit also makes a fabulous gift.

For more info, check out the website. There's a whole kits and gifts section, as well as a giant selection of lovely profucts. (Be sure to check out their Summer offer too.)

Winsome Wednesday: Liz Earle Botanical Essence No. 1 (review)

Yes, I did just use the word "winsome." It means "charming, appealing, charismatic…" you get the picture. (I could have used any of those words, but I picked the one that began with a "W.") After all the craziness yesterday, I felt today would be a nice day for some charm. In fragrance form. From Liz Earle.

Botanical Essence™ Eau De Parfum No.1

Blurb: For our first ever bespoke fragrance, we’ve used the finest natural botanical ingredients from around the world and the expert skills of a distinguished perfumer from Grasse, France. We gave him the time to indulge in this age-old art, skilfully hand-crafting this complex scent with true passion to create a vibrant, sparkling fragrance translating into warmth and sensuality – and it’s just won its first two UK awards. Over 98% directly derived from natural ingredients, this sensuous fragrance can be worn every day. Spritz generously all over any time your spirits need a boost.

Since Liz Earle is a skincare company (a fabulous one); I wasn't sure what to expect. I imagined it would resemble some of their bath/body care more than an actual stand alone fragrance. Not at all – it's a wonderful, fresh, summery Eau De Parfum!

It begins with lots of crisp, bright lemon and mandarin notes (with a hint of musk). After a few moments, it dries down to a warmer scent that showcases the blend of herbal and floral notes. It's really gorgeous. What also wowed me was the fact that it's made from 98% natural ingredients, yet still lasted well into the day. And as more time went by, the fragrance became warmer and earthier, and a little more of the rose peeked through. Thoroughly charming!

The Eau De Parfum is launching in the U.S. this summer. You can register here to be notified when it arrives (and right now it's available on the U.K. website here). And if you need to do some general browsing, visit the U.S. website (and check out the Summer Newsletter).

Quick and Perky: Liz Earle Energising Body Scrub (review)

Since yesterday's post was a tad…extensive; I thought I'd keep things perky today. I seem to have a whole lot of energy this week – which I hope continues into the holiday weekend. But just in case you happen to be feeling a little weary, here's a fine bit of pep from Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare.

Energising Body Scrub

Blurb: This uplifting, invigorating and refreshingly scented Body Scrub exfoliates and cleanses, leaving your skin renewed, revitalised and super-smooth. "Energising Body Scrub is a fabulous addition to our skin nurturing body care. Regular use (especially with our Energising Hip and Thigh Gel) swiftly makes legs look smooth and silky - perfect timing for the season ahead." Containing ground olive stones, it gently buffs away dead skin cells to reveal softer, smoother skin, in an instant. A unique blend of 9 pure essential oils: sweet orange, grapefruit, geranium, peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, patchouli and petitgrain is combined with damask rose water to leave you feeling stimulated and energised.

This is a fabulous company - and a fabulous gentle scrub! It's a foaming scrub, which means it works up into a bit of fluffy frothy lather while it exfoliates. The ground olive stones give a gentle (not scratchy) sloughing. It feels amazing, and the fragrance is unbelievable. In my opinion, the fragrance alone is reason enough to use it. The peppermint, citrus, pine and rosemary combine into a fresh, stimulating scent (I also think this fragrance would be fine for either a man or woman). I absolutely love using this in the morning – and coming out of the shower with baby soft skin.

Check out the website if you want to see all the Energising Range products. You may also want to take a look at the Summer Offer page (right now you can receive a free Superskin Concentrate 0.3 fl.oz worth $34.00 when you buy your 3 daily essentials.).

Happy Tuesday!

Clean and Pretty: Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish (review)

Another great discovery this summer has been Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare. Liz Earle is dedicated to bringing you their amazing high-quality, natural products with integrity, service and a deep respect for the environment.

Blurb: Our principles are the same today as they were on day one. Our products really work on every skin type by harnessing the potent powers of the finest quality ingredients. They can really make a positive difference to the health and appearance of your skin. We don’t complicate things. We love simple, fuss-free, gentle and effective products that are honestly priced. We do everything we can, from the personal way we answer the phone to beautifully hand-wrapping every item. We try never to let you down in all that we do, but if something’s not right, call us. Environment: It’s our legacy too, so we’re always working on improving our environmental impact. We know we are not perfect but the more we do, the better we get. Animal testing: We never do it. Ingredients: High quality, safe, naturally active ingredients are our priority. We only use potent, premium natural source vitamin E, never synthetic. None of our ingredients are of animal origin (except beeswax, propolis and manuka honey). All products are suitable for vegetarians.

A while back, I reviewed some foot care products (fab); and I recently tried out the Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser.

Blurb: This multi award-winning, concentrated cleanser quickly removes everyday grime and make-up, including stubborn mascara, to leave all skin types soft, smooth and radiant.

This wonderful cleanser also comes with two muslin cloths. The cloths are washable, durable and reusable, and boost the cleaning power. I filled a basin with hot water, applied the cleanser to dry skin and massaged the cream on my face and neck. I rinsed and wrung a cloth in the hot water and wiped the cleanser gently off. Then I rinsed completely with the remaining water. The result was super clean, super soft skin. The cleanser is extremely rich and gentle, and took off every bit of makeup (these days I'm wearing the heavy-duty, long-wearing stuff). This is also one of the few cleansers that is truly gentle enough for the eye area. It removed every smidgen of my eye makeup without being irritating at all. I love that this cleanser is so effective and so lovely to use!

There's also a Liz Earle for Men Cleanse and Polish (for…uh…men). In addition to the many (many!) products, the website also has lots of fun information (including a blog). Check it out.

Happy Friday!

My Happy Pretty Feet: Liz Earle Foot Care (review)

Lately, I've been checking out Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare. Besides a commitment to creating affordable pampering skincare (using naturally active ingredients), the folks at Liz Earle have an equal commitment to quality, service and integrity.

I really loved these two products from the New Foot Care Range.

Foot Scrub
Blurb: Our new Foot Scrub, containing natural pumice, gently yet intensively exfoliates the rough skin on your feet to leave them smooth and buffed to perfection. Includes softening avocado and wheatgerm oils, which are rich in vitamin E, and the invigorating aromas of peppermint and rosemary essential oils for sweet-smelling feet. It's quick and easy to use too: just massage onto damp skin or in the shower every day to keep dead skin cells at bay and leave feet feeling great all the time.

Such a great foot scrub! For one thing, it has lots (and lots) of pumice in the formula. I need a lot of “scrub” (especially in the summer), and this really did the job. It went right to work getting rid of the rough spots and the oils helped smooth and soften. I also loved the refreshing peppermint fragrance.

Foot Repair Moisturiser
Blurb: Follow with our refreshing peppermint-scented Foot Repair Moisturiser which uses a blend of shea butter (sourced through an African women's co-operative), skin-softening wheatgerm oil and avocado oil (rich in vitamin E), to intensively moisturise the driest of skins. Best of all, it sinks in fast so won't leave feet feeling greasy. With peppermint, rosemary and 7 other essential oils, this heavenly cream provides instant relief to tired, aching feet and lower legs and keeps them smelling sweet. Its gentle but hard-working formulation means it's perfect for men too.

This peppermint-scented moisturiser (spelled in Brittish) was the perfect thing for my newly buffed and smooth feet. It had the same great peppermint fragrance, felt creamy and rich, yet it absorbed very quickly (which is a big plus when it's time to put your shoes on). My feet felt cool, soothed and fresh for hours.

I can’t wait to try out some of Liz Earle’s other products. The website has lots of fun information (including a blog). There’s even a nifty Step By Step Home Pedicure Guide. Check out all the stuff: skincare, sun care, body care and accessories.
