I know I don’t usually post on Sundays, but I’ve been traveling and I came home to a whole bunch of awesome news about exciting launches, events and…stuff. So I’m choosing today to share it with all of you.

For starters, I wanted to make sure I posted these awesome looks created by Odile Gilbert for Moroccanoil®. From sleek and exotic to intricate and sculptural. Amazing and gorgeous…

Erin Fetherston Spring 2011 Collection

The Designs: Erin Fetherston's Spring 2011 collection is a celebration of wanderlust. Inspired by the woman who seeks the exotic and unique, Fetherston channels the passion of the tropics and the romance of the desert in a modern eclectic mix for spring. Traditional safari details inspire sharp feminine sportswear rendered in rich cotton twill and delicate eyelash lace. Pale cotton voiles, shimmering silk jacquards, and heathered linen combine to create chic day dresses and tailored separates. For evening, the Erin Fetherston woman emerges as a nocturnal bird of paradise in vibrantly hued variations on the designer’s cocktail signatures.

The Hair Look: “I wanted to create an exotic look that had the mood of a woman on a tropical holiday, ready to explore something new after a morning on the beach,” said hair stylist Odile Gilbert. “Her hair looks natural, healthy, straight and clean – but I’ve given it a bit of subtle drama, with texture only on the top of the hair and back from the face. The rest of the strands fall free. The texture was inspired by markings on tropical leaves. It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, perfect for a casual day or a dressed summer night.

How To Create Looks: Odile first blow-dried hair straight using argan-oil infused Moroccanoil Treatment or Moroccanoil Light (for fine or light colored hair) to protect and prepare the hair for smoothing with a flat iron.

After creating a deep side part, Odile lightly moistened top of hair from forehead back to crown and applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and separated hair a bit with fingers. She then sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray only several inches away from the hair and further separated strands with a comb for a striated tropical effect. She then blow-dried the shaped texture, and sprayed a final light misting of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray from a distance to hold the look.

To finish Odile brushed the rest of the hair, from back of crown to the ends, letting it fall naturally, then tucked the hair behind the ears.

The Designs: For his Spring 2011 collection, award-winning designer Prabal Gurung embodies American sportswear in its purest form, redefined with a European edge. Sharp tailoring and restrained silhouettes are complemented by graphic prints and a bold color palette. The pieces are beautifully crafted with quiet strength and femininity, expressed through Gurung's signature attention to form, structure and detail.

The Hair: Master runway stylist Odile Gilbert created elegant, long, “neo-chignons” inspired by the classic American ponytail. According to Gilbert, “Prabal Gurung envisioned hair that combined modern and classic elements yet was completely unique. This look embodies all of this and highlights a modern design softened by sculptural, rounded lines.” Part ponytail and part chignon, it’s pinned at the nape of the neck to hold its form, just as a chignon is. Each side of the look presents a different profile – one bold, simple and strong, the other soft and flowing. The hair itself is very sleek yet looks healthy and luminous. The final effect is very modern, and definitely very different.”

How To Create The Look: Odile first applied the original Moroccanoil Treatment from roots to ends (using Moroccanoil Light for hair that was fine and blonde).

She combed or brushed (depending upon texture) the hair completely flat, created a deep part on the left side, pulled it back and sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold it in place while she continued styling. Next, the hair on the right side was released into a rounded shape, -- almost Twiggy-style, -- then sprayed with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.

Hair on the left side was then pulled back into a ponytail with a thin hair band. Next, strands on the rounded right side were wrapped around the top of the ponytail, pinned, then released to blend and flow down the back.

After shaping the hair, Odile then clipped a rectangular silver-colored hair accessory to attach the length of hair to the nape of the neck and keep it from moving. She finished with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold the look in place.

The final touch was a light misting of Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray all over the hair to give the look a long-lasting shine and to prevent static or frizz.

Hair Care Friday: Jonathan Product IB Revitalizer™ (review)

You have no idea how happy I am that it’s Friday! My perkiness from earlier in the week has faded; and I desperately need a recharge. Coincidentally, so does my hair.

Gosh...what a perfect opportunity to talk about some stellar hair care from Jonathan Product.

I’ve never tried an overnight treatment like this before. It's a spray mist that gently coats the hair and penetrates overnight. It's incredibly light - very nice. I sectioned my hair, and then sprayed the Treatment over each section until everything was covered. I couldn’t tell much when I woke up; but after I washed, rinsed and let my hair (air) dry, I noticed immediately that my hair much softer. It was also smoother, and the ends were much tamer. Best of all, there was a lot more shine. That’s what I really liked - the added smoothness and shine.

Your Thursday Face: Exuviance Skin Caring Foundation (review)

I’m kinda sleepy today. Last night was late, and now I’m dragging. But even though I’m starting to fade; my featured Thursday Face item is still going strong. Check out a truly fine foundation from Exuviance.

It nourishes, feels wonderful, contains sun protection, and won’t cause breakouts.

And it lasts…lasts without creasing or changing color. I applied it at 8:30 this morning, and it looks wonderful nearly 12 hours later. Truly fabulous!

Thank You, Nina! NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (review)

Last Monday I thanked my mom for allowing me an awesome birthday indulgence. And today, I’m thanking my godmother (“Nina” means “godmother” in Spanish) for giving me some wonderful, girly, birthday, beauty cheer. We were in Sephora during a family trip; and I got to pick out an after-birthday gift. My something was from…NARS.

Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (in “Damned”)

I’ve been wanting to try these pencils for-freaking-ever! And now I have. And now I want one in every color. Because they are awesome. They do indeed have a soft, velvety, matte finish (hence, the name); and they sit beautifully on the lips. The texture is plush and luxurious (not dry – or drying – at all), and the thick pencil is perfect for quick, precise application – a very good thing because the pencils are very highly pigmented. Their quality and staying power are excellent.

Nina politely overlooked the fact that her goddaughter picked something in a color called “Damned.” But I couldn’t resist. It’s a deep, rich magenta that flatters my complexion, and is perfect for both Fall and the holiday season. And in addition to high-impact, va-va-voom dark velvet drama; there’s also the option of applying a gentle swipe for a gorgeous, natural, berry-stained look – that lasts. I also got a great look when I layered a sparkly gloss on top. These pencils are stunning, versatile, convenient and portable – what’s not to love?

The conditioning spray smoothed my hair, and fought frizz all day (it also made a great day-to-evening style refresher). I let my hair air dry; and my curls were cute, bouncy and healthy-looking. I also noticed an extra boost in volume.

What really sold me was the morning (on a non-mask day) that I realized my hair felt softer and smoother when I woke up. This kit even fixes bed head!

The foundation is fabulous! It’s almost weightless and disappears immediately - leaving sheer, natural coverage that mattifies, hides pores and smoothes out skintone. It controlled oiliness throughout the day, yet it never creased, caked or felt dry. The mineral blushes and shadows were also excellent. They’re very highly pigmented, yet they blended well and had wonderful lasting power. I especially loved the blush I tried (in “Russet”). It went on smoothly and looked incredibly natural.

I also love that this company is dedicated to providing natural products (100% Australian made and owned). All of their cosmetics, skincare and treatments are ph neutral, effective, made with pure water, and without chemical agents or re-agents.

OMGWTF...Really? (Home Edition)

I’m doing something a little bit different for “hump day.”

Usually when I talk about travel, I focus on makeup, skincare, hydration, hair care, etc. During my last trip, I really was thinking about those things on the plane. That is, until I picked up a copy of Skymall. For those of you who don’t fly much, Skymall is a catalogue located in the seat pocket of the airplane. (It’s usually in front of the safety information card and behind the pretend magazine.) Skymall is chock full of gizmos, gadgets, furniture and…stuff. Apparently, tons of people browse the catalogue during their flights and end up ordering things from it.

Anyway, I was flipping through it, and I couldn’t believe some of the things for sale in there. There was a whole bunch of really tempting cool stuff. But…since I usually post about cool stuff; I thought I’d share some of the really…um…different…stuff.

King Tut's Egyptian Throne

Happy Autumn Appreciation Day: NEW Estée Lauder Sensuous Noir (review)

Before you start firing up the Google; I should tell you that there isn’t really an official Autumn Appreciation Day. I just made it up (so what else is new?). I’ve been going through the gloomy “Summer is Over” phase; and about 45 minutes ago, I suddenly got all happy that Autumn is here. Outside it’s dark and crisp, and I’m sitting in my snug apartment enjoying the coziness.

I’m thinking about Halloween costumes, hot cocoa, pretty leaves, cozy comforters, more hot cocoa, stockings and high heels, rich colors, hot baths before bed time, and…cocoa. Besides an excuse to enjoy chocolate in liquid form, Autumn is also a sensuous time. Nights are longer and darker, and the chilly air makes everyone want to get a little bit closer. How about we talk about a sensuous fragrance then? Here’s one from Estée Lauder.

The purple rose and jasmine are very prominent in the beginning, and are set off by a spicy whiff of black pepper. It’s a little bit intoxicating, and then it begins to warm up. The heady swirl settles down, and the darker, more earthy notes of the patchouli and melted woods start to come through. Finally the warm, creamy notes of the amber and vanilla and appear with more of the florals.

It’s really lovely. What I like most about this scent is the combination of femininity, mystery and earthiness.

I have a lot of reasons to say “thank you” in this life. But this particular bit of gratitude has to do with a birthday present from my mom. My birthday was a while ago, and I really really wanted something frivolous and indulgent. So I asked my mom if I could use her credit card for a little splurge. Mom said, “yes,” and I splurged on something thoroughly delicious from Laura Mercier.

Crème de Pistache Soufflé Body Crème

Now every time I’m in a department store; I start opening jars and making the person I’m with take a whiff. First they look at me like I’m crazy; then they inhale and go all dreamy-eyed. It smells that good.

It’s warm, sexy, slightly spicy, slightly nutty and just a little bit sweet. Like the other body soufflés; whenever I wear it, people invariably tell me they love my “perfume” and ask me what it is. Of course it isn’t perfume. It’s a creamy, luscious, nourishing body crème that keeps my skin soft for hours and hours. And it smells sooooo amazingly good! (Insert dreamy sigh here.)

In addition to not being quite ready to let go of summer, I’m also completely frazzled. I’m getting ready for a trip and I still haven’t packed. And...it’s already 8:00 pm, and I have to get up at 4:00 am tomorrow morning. Ouch.

Turn, turn, turn: Origins Gloomaway Grapefruit Bath Bar (review)

Today it really feels like Summer is over. This morning, I was talking to someone who lives slightly north of me; and he told me that the leaves where he lives are really starting to change. And when I walked outside, I saw a few leaves with a slightly reddish tinge. It was also overcast and drizzly today…and the smell of Autumn was in the air.

In about a week or so, I’ll be thrilled at the beautiful leaves and the crisp air. I’ll also be thrilled that I get to wear deep, gorgeous fall colors (and that my makeup stays put instead of melting off). But for now, I’m a little bit sad. There are a lot of good things ahead; but it’s been a gigantic summer, and I kind of hate to say goodbye.

So…I feel like talking about something a little bit perky at the moment. Maybe a refreshing treat from Origins.

I took a whiff in the store, and knew I was going to take something home. I picked the bath bar because I love bar soaps; and because I already have a ton of moisturizers and shower gels.

I'm so glad I got this! First…it’s an excellent bar. The lather is wonderful and fluffy, it rinses away easily, and my skin feels clean and balanced afterwards. But the real reason to bring one home is the fragrance. It’s fresh, bright, clean, just a little bit sweet, and very grapefruity! It’s a great start for a gloomy morning (or even a nice morning for that matter). It’s also nice for a relaxing evening shower when you want to feel squeaky clean before getting into bed. Yummmm!

Happy Monday everyone! This is going to be a short week for me, but I’m planning to fill it up with tons of cool beauty info. Let’s start out the week with a fabulous liner I just tried from Rosie Jane Cosmetics.

Eye Define (in “Beech Tree”)

I love this liner!!! It came in my last BeautyFix kit, and I finally got around to trying it last week. It’s awesome.

First, the slanted tip is a really unique feature. It makes a precise cat eye very easy; and it also allows me to quickly draw a big bold line. It also keeps its shape without a sharpener.

The formula is excellent. It’s silky, smooth, pretty, and goes on evenly. There’s no skipping or dragging, and it’s highly pigmented – so it covers in one swipe. “Beach Tree” is a rich, flattering brown with a nice shimmer. The color blends easily, and is long-wearing once it sets. All that’s needed is…more colors!

Happy almost weekend, everyone! Since there are only 10 minutes left of Friday, I’m going to get right to it. Today’s lovely hair care item comes to us from Ojon.

Wow. This spray did absolutely everything it claimed to do. Sometimes I need more hold; but I don’t like stiffness (who does). I was amazed at how well it held and how movable, flexible, shiny and soft my hair felt. I could even run my fingers through it. There was no oiliness, no stickiness, no stiffness and it washed out in a snap. Fab!

Your Thursday Face: CG Smoothers SPF 15 Tinted Moisture (review)

Okay…duh.

Don't I write a fair amount of stuff having to do with travel-worthy items and things that work well for trips? (Answer: Yes I do.) Wouldn't that make you think I’ve gotten pretty good at packing up my beauty products? (Answer: Yes it would.) But this weekend, I was about an hour into my trip when I suddenly realized I'd packed everything except my foundation. I used it in the morning, and forgot to pack it. So…no foundation.

Duh.

Luckily, I realized this before spotting a nice big sign for Target. So I was able to fix the situation pretty easily. And I had a perfect excuse to try out a fine item from COVERGIRL.

CG Smoothers Tinted Moisture (SPF 15)

Blurb: Designed with AquaCurrent Science, this lightweight moisturizer with SPF 15 has a sheer tint of color to help even-out skin tone and hydrate skin. I’d heard great things about this product, so I decided to give it a try. I was absolutely thrilled. It went on easily and smoothly, felt weightless and made my skin feel refreshed and hydrated. The coverage was sheer, evened out my skin tone, and looked very natural. It did an excellent job of neutralizing redness too. The finish is fresh and dewy without being shiny. It’s also oil free, and has a bit of SPF. Oh – and it was about $7!!!

For another thing, it totally works. Yes it does. I don’t have extremely severe perspiration problems; but there are many times when it’s hot outdoors (or the heat is cranked up indoors), and I start getting really shiny. The wipes worked great on my underarms, upper lip and hairline. They were especially effective in the…um…underwire (and/or cleavage) area. There was no white residue, the formula was non-irritating, and there was no strange smell.

I got the most dramatic benefits, though, the night I went dancing. I love to dance, but my face tends to look like I stood under a shower afterwards. I used a towelette, and the difference was amazing. I was a little bit dewy, but that was it. Fabulous!

I'm Back (Finally)! AMORE Natural Protector SPF 30 (review)

Hey everyone – I meant to start feeling pretty again yesterday (after my weekend trip); but blogging duties had to wait another day. I can’t believe this was supposed to be my “relaxing month.” Ha! I tried it. And I am thrilled to bits at how well it worked!

Hair Care Friday: Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream (review)

Sorry I’ve been MIA so much this week! In addition to the usual craziness, I’ve been trying to get a ton of stuff done before I leave on my trip today. Last night (and the night before), I just plain ran out of time. But I couldn’t miss Hair Care Friday!

While everyone is concentrating on Fashion Week and Manhattan; my attention is on a trip to upstate New York this weekend. Madness! Way too much to do - and way too small a suitcase. Of course if I left out the toiletries, I might have a little more room – but why on earth would I do that? In addition to products made and packaged especially for travel, I also like to use more travel-worthy versions of products I use at home. Today’s hair friendly, suitcase friendly item is from Moroccanoil.

Hydrating Styling Cream

Yikes – I am tired. The week is only two days old and I’m cooked. We have a lot of days off this month, so we’re trying to squeeze in a whole lot of stuff in a little bit of time. I'm very fussy about eye makeup removers, and I really loved this one. It’s a light, clear gel; and it got rid of my eye makeup in 2 gentle swipes (2 swipes per eye, that is). It cleaned thoroughly, and there was no oiliness, stickiness, residue or irritation.

My lids felt very soothed, and there was slightly cool/fresh sensation. And based on a clinical study, 88% found that it helped prevent lashes from falling out. Now that's pretty awesome.

Hair Care Friday: Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and Hair Milk Lite (review)

First – love and healing thoughts to my dear, wonderful friend who is recovering from walking pneumonia. If you have a moment, please send some good vibes his way.

Second – sorry about missing yesterday’s post. The entire day got re-arranged at the last minute; and my scheduled blogging activities had to go by the wayside.

The last two days have been pretty stressful. I’m worried about a couple of my friends; and it’s hard when people I care about are having trouble, and there isn’t much I can do to help. I’m doing my best to send support and love their way; and I’m also trying very hard to distract myself so I don’t smother them with my worrying.

Although it doesn’t fix anything, taking little breaks to count my blessings, find little things to do, and/or give myself a little pampering go a long way towards feeling better when there’s nothing I can actually accomplish. I’ve been a fan of the original Hair Milk for years. I think everyone with curly hair needs to have a bottle of this (I often keep a small bottle in my bag). It’s fabulous for taming frizz, and it also works to soften and add shine to curls when the weather is dry. The Hair Milk Lite is an awesome addition. Now that my hair is getting longer, some of the curls are turning to waves, and the Lite version is great for getting a little curl boost.

Both products add lots of shine and moisture, condition the scalp, and contain cocoa butter, shea butter and vitamin C. They’re also free of parabens, petroleum, mineral oil and artificial color.
