Wonderful Wednesday: Ojon Color Sustain

Wow! Take a look at this beauty news. My color-treated hair is certainly paying attention!

Ojon Color Sustain Helps Shield Hair
From Water-Induced Fading For Up To 40 Washes

Introducing Ojon Color Sustain to help prevent color from fading while supporting hair’s brilliance and vibrancy

New findings have shown that water is one of the biggest contributors to fading hair color. Women in the United States spend more than $2 billion a year on hair coloring treatments1, but is most of that expensive color being washed down the drain? In difficult economic times, beauty consumers want color treatments with staying power. Ojon™ is introducing a new hair care ritual called Color Sustain™ featuring Tahitian Monoi Oil to help combat the color-depleting effects of H2O. With a combination of Coconut Oil infused with fresh Tiare flowers, Monoi Oil’s non-affinity for water gives it a unique ability to help prevent color loss. Regular use of new Ojon Color Protecting Cream and Color Revealing Shampoo and Conditioner is proven to help protect hair and maintain vibrant color for up to 40 washes.

“Monoi Oil’s superior conditioning and fast absorption helps preserve shine and prevent hair from looking washed out and dull,” states Senior Vice President of Ojon Product Development, Lynn Mazzella. “When combined with Ojon Oil the essential lipids repair and seal the cuticle to lock in color.”

Contrary to what is widely believed, it is not only shampoos, heat styling and sun exposure that can cause color loss. Water exposure on its own can lead to fading and discoloration. When hair’s protective cuticle is compromised, as it is when hair is frequently color treated, water easily enters the hair shaft and washes away coloration. This gradual fading process begins with the first shower after a color treatment. The hydrophobic properties of Monoi Oil help shield hair from water – instantly repelling it and making it difficult for water to penetrate the hair shaft and wash away the pigment.

Along with water degradation, shampoo can affect hair color. There is some debate within the beauty industry about washing colored hair with shampoos that contain sulfates. Science suggests that some sulfates can speed up color loss, but new Ojon Color Revealing Shampoo contains coconut-derived cleansing agents with gentle sulfates similar to those found in baby shampoos. It creates a color-safe, luxurious lather that leaves hair feeling clean while the water-resistant Monoi Oil maintains and protects color richness and vibrancy.

“We were inspired by the French Polynesian Vahine women who are known for their color-rich, shiny hair,” explains Mazzella. “We wanted to create a collection that maintains the same shine and hair color depth as the day it was colored – shampoo after shampoo.”
The Color Sustain ritual includes new Color Revealing Shampoo and Conditioner, Color Protecting Cream and Gloss Finishing Hair Spray. The collection will launch at Sephora and select retailers across North America March 15, 2011.

Hair Care Friday: Ojon Hydrating Styling Cream (review)

Well I’m slowly coming back to the land of beauty after a very un-lovely cold/flu/virus thing. Trust me – you do not want to get this. So...don’t. If anyone comes near you with so much as a sniffle, flee!

Okay, I’m through being dramatic. How about some hair care? From Ojon.

Hydrating Styling Cream

Blurb: Fortified with exclusive Ojon® oil, an ancient native secret to naturally beautiful hair from Central America’s Tawira tribe, known as “the people of beautiful hair.™” Ojon® Hydrating Styling Cream is a nourishing leave-in styling treatment that provides a light hold while hydrating and smoothing frizzy, damaged or dehydrated hair. The unique formulation contains encapsulated Ojon® microspheres to help detangle while providing a brilliant shine. Formulated without alcohol. Ideal for all hair types to smooth, control frizz and hydrate dry or dehydrated hair.

I spent most of the week on the sofa watching just about every episode ever made of "Law & Order SVU" and "Criminal Intent." Eventually though, I had to pry myself off of the couch and shuffle in to work. Needless to say, my beauty regimen was pretty bare bones.

This Styling Cream was a gigantic help. (I tried it months ago, and kept meaning to write about it, but kept getting sidetracked. So I took it out on Wednesday to help with my hair emergency.) This is a lifesaver when you’re low on time (or energy) and still want your hair to look great. All I have to do is put about 2 or 3 pumps in my hands, rub my hands together and then apply the cream evenly through my damp hair. Super easy. It has a light hold without being sticky; and I get nice controlled curls/waves with extra shine, and no frizz. It also contains hydrating ingredients, so it does a little double duty as well.

As always, a visit to the website is a fine idea. Check out the current offers, see what's new and browse the rituals for each hair type). Ojon is also available at Sephora, Ulta and Nordstrom (check the where to buy section for local shops and salons).

I was so smitten with the instructional film I posted earlier that I had to look for more. Here’s another one from the fine folks at Coronet Films. We can all learn from Coronet Films (and Veronica Lake). Don’t be surprised if you see a few more of these next week.

Hair Care Friday: Ojon Tunu Elastik Flexible Hairspray (review)

Happy almost weekend, everyone! Since there are only 10 minutes left of Friday, I’m going to get right to it. Today’s lovely hair care item comes to us from Ojon.

Tunu Elastik Flexible Finishing Hairspray

Blurb: A one-of-a-kind finishing spray that adds incredible fullness, control and shine with a true flexible hold to any hair type. Enhanced with specially hand harvested Tunu Elastik™ and Swa™ extracts and Broccoli Seed oil. Enriched with exclusive Ojon® oil. This formula contains a rare wildcrafted elastic fiber extract called Tunu Elastik™ – the same rare extract used by the Tawira known as “the people of beautiful hair™” of Central America for over 500 years.

Wow. This spray did absolutely everything it claimed to do. Sometimes I need more hold; but I don’t like stiffness (who does). I was amazed at how well it held and how movable, flexible, shiny and soft my hair felt. I could even run my fingers through it. There was no oiliness, no stickiness, no stiffness and it washed out in a snap. Fab!

Take a look at the website (I recommend visiting the special offers page or checking out the rituals for each hair type). Ojon is also available at Sephora, Ulta and Nordstrom (check the where to buy section for local shops and salons).

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hair Care Friday: Ojon Revitalizing 2-Min Hair Mask (review)

Now that my hair is getting longer, I'm getting reacquainted with one of its (many) peculiarities. Most of my hair is curly and thick; but the hair at the top of my head tends to be finer, thinner and have relatively little curl. This doesn't matter much when my hair is short or medium length; but once it starts growing, I'm in terrible danger of having the dreaded "Christmas tree" effect. (That's when my hair gets that Roseanne Roseannadanna triangle shape*…shudder!)

Eventually, my hair will grow out enough to be fixed with layering by a professional hair stylist (in my case, the intrepid "Scott"). But in the meantime, I need something to give me a volume boost as well as the always necessary conditioning. As luck would have it, the hair gurus at Ojon are way ahead of me.

NEW Revitalizing 2-Min Hair Mask

Blurb: In just 2 minutes, this nourishing creamy mask improves the condition of dry, dehydrated hair. With the appeal of a light refreshing fragrance this formula helps replenish hydration and detangle hair leaving it silky-smooth and shiny without weighing it down. Fortified with exclusive Ojon® oil, an ancient native secret to naturally beautiful hair from Central America’s Tawira tribe, known as "the people of beautiful hair.™" Enriched with 9 exotic oils and butters (Murumuru Butter, Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Babassu Seed Oil, Passion Flower Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Oil, Avocado Oil) that infuse directly into the hair shaft to condition and nourish dry, dehydrated hair. Each of these oils is carefully selected for their high content in essential lipids. These lipids mimic the ones naturally present in hair.

I love a good hair mask, and this one is a stand out! For one thing, it's convenient. Most of the masks I use are for overnight – which is very nice; but there isn't always time. This one works fabulously in only 2 minutes. I smoothed it on, put on a shower cap, picked out my clothes for the day, came back and rinsed. That was it! I skipped my daily conditioner (as per the instructions), and my hair was gorgeous.

My hair was soft without any heaviness or greasiness (and stayed soft until the next morning). But the big surprise was the noticeable lift. My hair looked fuller and thicker; and my curls looked great – all without any frizz or fuzziness. The fact that the effects lasted into the next day tells me that regular use is going to make a big difference.

You'll find all kinds of treats for your tresses on the website. And be sure to visit the Special Offers page (because if you try the Hair Mask, you'll also receive a bonus 2oz. Animated Styling Cream with your purchase). Ojon is also available at Sephora, Ulta and Nordstrom (you can also check the where to buy section for local shops and salons).

*For those of you aren't familiar with Gilda Radner's Roseanne Roseannadanna character, here's a snippet of Friday culture…

Hair Care Friday: Ojon Shine and Protect Shampoo, Conditioner and Glossing Mist (review)

Another weekend is here! I have a zillion errands to run, and then I'm going home to concoct a "theme" dessert for a party. This will end with me either proudly displaying my work, or running to the store at the last minute for a cake. Whatever the outcome, tonight I get to have fun playing junior scientist in the kitchen.

As for my other experiment (the growing out my hair after almost a decade), it's going pretty well. And lately I've been assisted by three completely fabulous items from Ojon.

Shine & Protect Shampoo

Blurb: Fortified with exclusive Ojon® oil, an ancient native secret to naturally beautiful hair from Central America’s Tawira tribe, known as “the people of beautiful hair.™” Part of the Ojon® Shine & Protect ritual, this shampoo is formulated with plant-based cleansing agents that provide a high-gloss shine to color-treated and natural hair. Enriched with exclusive Ojon® oil and a blend of Mandarin Orange, Papaya, Lime and Almond extracts, Broccoli Seed oil and Vitamin E, this ritual helps protect hair while giving hair brighter, more vivid color.

Shine & Protect Conditioner

Blurb: Part of the Ojon® Shine & Protect ritual, this conditioner is formulated to detangle color-treated and natural hair while providing a high-gloss shine. Enriched with exclusive Ojon® oil and a blend of Mandarin Orange, Papaya, Lime and Almond extracts, Broccoli Seed oil and Vitamin E, this ritual helps protect hair while giving hair brighter, more vivid color.

Shine & Protect Glossing Mist

Blurb: Ojon® Glossing Mist is a lightweight mist of pure shine that leaves a high-gloss finish. Enriched with exclusive Ojon® oil, Broccoli Seed, Wheat Germ and Sweet Almond oils, just 2 to 3 pumps helps protect while giving brighter, more vivid color.

My hair has been amazing while using these! Just plain amazing!

Some of the challenges of curly, color treated hair are keeping it conditioned and protecting the color. Another challenge is getting it to look healthy and shiny when I perform various hairdo "experiments." All three of these products performed beautifully.

First…I'm absolutely crazy about the Shampoo. I know shampoo isn't always the most exciting product; but this one blew me away. I'd taken another long ride in my friend's car with the top down. I had also forgotten to tie my hair back, so it was a tangled mess by the end of the day. I used this shampoo, and it completely dissolved every tangle. I was able to glide a comb through it before using any conditioner. It also set the stage for the other products to work. The Conditioner was light; but it conditioned and softened my hair without weighing it down. And in the mornings (when I re-wet my bed-head hair), it did an excellent job of detangling. The Mist was the finishing touch. A tiny (tiny!!) bit was all I needed. It gave an extra shine boost to my curls, and it was spectacular after I used my flat iron. (It worked best when I spritzed it on my hands and then worked it through my hair.) All three products worked well together to give me silky, soft hair with tons of shine! Yay!

Before I head off to play Betty Crocker, it's time for me to steer you towards the website (right now in the special offers section, you'll receive a bonus Animated Styling Cream if you try the NEW Volumizing 2-minute hair mask). Ojon is also available at Sephora, Ulta and Nordstrom (or you can check the where to buy section for local shops and salons).

Have a great weekend!

Hair Care Friday: Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment & Restorative Leave-In (review)

Wow – I am really running late (again). It seems like the posts have been pretty late in the day this week. Luckily, it’s Friiiiiiiday, and I get a little break. Most of last weekend was taken up by cold symptoms, so this weekend I’m planning to have a little fun with my R&R. But that doesn’t mean I’m slacking off on my quest for quality haircare. No sirree. I have two (count em!) fine items today from the “wildcrafted beauty” crafters: Ojon.

Restorative Hair Treatment

Blurb: This contains our highest concentration of pure Ojon® oil. A unique, highly-concentrated hair and scalp treatment made with exclusive Ojon® oil — the same rare oil used by the Tawira Indians known as “the people of beautiful hair™” of Central America for over 500 years. Supported by clinical studies, Ojon® Restorative Hair Treatment hydrates dry, damaged hair and strengthens and restores a healthy look and feel to hair. Leaves hair extraordinarily soft, silky, and manageable. Even healthy-looking hair shows a noticeable improvement. Ideal for all hair types that are dry or damaged.

Restorative Leave-In (for Reds)

Blurb: A daily hydrating, detangling, shine-enhancing solution. This weightless formula leaves your tresses manageable and easier to style while sealing in the benefits of your cleansing and conditioning regimen. Its infusion of natural antioxidants from bamboo extract helps shield hair from environmental damage. Cupuaçu, murumuru, ucuuba, shea and mango butters provide a creamy, moisturizing emulsion that allows product to spread effortlessly throughout the hair. This haircare essential does not contain silicones or unnecessary fillers.

Yay! Items like these mean that there are many happy hair days ahead! The Restorative Hair Treatment is a spectacular deep conditioning mask! It’s also a bit out of the ordinary. For one thing, it’s applied directly to dry (unwashed) hair. It’s almost solid coming out of the jar, and you need to soften it in your hands before working it through. I followed the instructions, worked it into my hair and then followed the suggestions for using it as an overnight mask (see helpful overnight hair tip below*). In the morning I woke up, rinsed and then shampooed. My hair was crazy soft! I couldn’t believe it. After it was partially dry, I worked some of the Leave-In through my hair, and then let it dry naturally. Amazing! My hair was baby soft and shiny, and there were no flyaways or frizz all day. The Leave-in also has a bit of a “sparkle” which looked really cool in the sunshine.

Believe it or not, this was my first time really checking out Ojon. I’ve done a little spritzing and sniffing here and there at Sephora; but never really got around to giving this brand a serious try. And I have no idea what took me so long. I absolutely loved both products and can’t wait to check out more.

As always, there’s tons more information to be found on the website. Definitely take a look at the special offers section (right now you can get a free Shine and Protect Leave-In Glossing Cream with all orders over $50). And read about their special ingredients and product launches. Ojon is available at places like Sephora, Ulta and Nordstrom. You can also check the where to buy section for a list of local shops and salons.

Have a lovely weekend!

*Helpful overnight hair tip: I know the directions always tell you to use a shower cap when doing an overnight hair treatment. I don’t know why they do that. If you sleep in a plastic shower cap; it will make crackly noises, and your head will get very hot. Which means you won’t get any sleep. Which means that the next morning you will have gorgeous hair and hideous red, baggy eyes. Instead of the shower cap, try a bandana (I have a yellow one just for this purpose). Tie it around your head and then tuck the back corner in before tightening the knot. The knot will be at the base of your head (which won’t interfere with sleep); and the sturdy fabric will breathe, but still keep all the goo off of your face, pillowcase and linens. Seven or eight hours is plenty of time for your treatment to be fully absorbed.
