It’s very light weight, and doesn’t feel oily or heavy at all. I found that following the directions works very well for this product (who knew?). Red Carpet Alert: Amy Adams Hair Look at Golden Globes

Golden Globes nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Feature Film, Amy Adams, looked radiant as she wore a gorgeous strapless Marchesa gown with her fabulous red hair worn in a flowing, back-braided updo created by celebrity stylist Laini Reeves.

Laini Reeves explains how the look was styled:

I wanted to create a soft 20’s mood, but in a different, modern way. We started by changing the texture of her hair before we went on to loosely braid and roll the chignon.

Amy has a beautiful, full and thick head of hair and a nice, natural wave. We started by washing her hairwith Moroccanoil® Moisture Repair Shampoo which infuses the hairwith argan oil, keratins, fatty acids, and proteins. Combined with Moroccanoil® Moisture Repair Conditioner, it immediately controlled the hair and left itsmoother, frizz free and easy to manage and style.

I then applied Moroccanoil® Hydrating Styling Cream while it was drying, from root to end to give soft hold while further smoothing the texture and adding definition and shine. I rough-dried the hair with my hands to get the water out and created a bit of a messed up texture with a slight touch of wave for a more modern, freer look. The hair was air dried except at the roots, where I used a blow dryer.

Next, I used a 1” curling iron to make curls in different parts of the hair that needed to be filled in and then smoothed and blended them in. I made a side part and prepared some pieces from the front of the hair to frame her face, pinning them in an “S”-shape and away from the rest of the hair.

I gathered and pulled back the rest of hair, made a loose braid that I doubled up, rolled upwards and pinned at the nape, with the cross texture side of the braid showing. Only five thick bobby pins were used to secure the style in place.

Finally, I released the “S”-shaped sections in the front and pinned them behind the ear to open her face up and to show off her cheek bones. I then sprayed the look with Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray to keep everything in place with movable shine, without looking like it was sprayed.

Erin Fetherston Spring 2011 Collection

The Designs: Erin Fetherston's Spring 2011 collection is a celebration of wanderlust. The Hair Look: “I wanted to create an exotic look that had the mood of a woman on a tropical holiday, ready to explore something new after a morning on the beach,” said hair stylist Odile Gilbert. “Her hair looks natural, healthy, straight and clean – but I’ve given it a bit of subtle drama, with texture only on the top of the hair and back from the face. The rest of the strands fall free. The texture was inspired by markings on tropical leaves. It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, perfect for a casual day or a dressed summer night.

How To Create Looks: Odile first blow-dried hair straight using argan-oil infused Moroccanoil Treatment or Moroccanoil Light (for fine or light colored hair) to protect and prepare the hair for smoothing with a flat iron.

After creating a deep side part, Odile lightly moistened top of hair from forehead back to crown and applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and separated hair a bit with fingers. She then sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray only several inches away from the hair and further separated strands with a comb for a striated tropical effect. She then blow-dried the shaped texture, and sprayed a final light misting of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray from a distance to hold the look.

To finish Odile brushed the rest of the hair, from back of crown to the ends, letting it fall naturally, then tucked the hair behind the ears.

The Designs: For his Spring 2011 collection, award-winning designer Prabal Gurung embodies American sportswear in its purest form, redefined with a European edge. The pieces are beautifully crafted with quiet strength and femininity, expressed through Gurung's signature attention to form, structure and detail.

The Hair: Master runway stylist Odile Gilbert created elegant, long, “neo-chignons” inspired by the classic American ponytail. According to Gilbert, “Prabal Gurung envisioned hair that combined modern and classic elements yet was completely unique. This look embodies all of this and highlights a modern design softened by sculptural, rounded lines.” Part ponytail and part chignon, it’s pinned at the nape of the neck to hold its form, just as a chignon is. Each side of the look presents a different profile – one bold, simple and strong, the other soft and flowing. The hair itself is very sleek yet looks healthy and luminous. The final effect is very modern, and definitely very different.”

How To Create The Look: Odile first applied the original Moroccanoil Treatment from roots to ends (using Moroccanoil Light for hair that was fine and blonde).

She combed or brushed (depending upon texture) the hair completely flat, created a deep part on the left side, pulled it back and sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold it in place while she continued styling. Next, the hair on the right side was released into a rounded shape, -- almost Twiggy-style, -- then sprayed with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.

Hair on the left side was then pulled back into a ponytail with a thin hair band. Next, strands on the rounded right side were wrapped around the top of the ponytail, pinned, then released to blend and flow down the back.

After shaping the hair, Odile then clipped a rectangular silver-colored hair accessory to attach the length of hair to the nape of the neck and keep it from moving. She finished with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold the look in place.

The final touch was a light misting of Moroccanoil® Glimmer Shine Spray all over the hair to give the look a long-lasting shine and to prevent static or frizz.

Hair Care Friday: Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream (review)

Sorry I’ve been MIA so much this week! In addition to the usual craziness, I’ve been trying to get a ton of stuff done before I leave on my trip today. Last night (and the night before), I just plain ran out of time. But I couldn’t miss Hair Care Friday!

While everyone is concentrating on Fashion Week and Manhattan; my attention is on a trip to upstate New York this weekend. Madness! Way too much to do - and way too small a suitcase. Of course if I left out the toiletries, I might have a little more room – but why on earth would I do that? In addition to products made and packaged especially for travel, I also like to use more travel-worthy versions of products I use at home. Today’s hair friendly, suitcase friendly item is from Moroccanoil.

Hydrating Styling Cream

Laini Reeves, who also styled the hair for Emily Blunt’s recent wedding, created a fresh yet sophisticated look inspired by the iconic finger waves of the 20s. She used lightweight, instantly-absorbed argan oil-infused Moroccanoil products to style Emily’s shoulder length layered hair into a beautiful waved design that fell slightly below the jawline on the sides, and with shorter, pincurled accents at the nape of the neck. How to get the look:

“We wanted to create a look that was very different from any that Emily had worn before. Once I saw the gown, I knew that a modern look based on the waved looks of the 20’s was the perfect compliment for the design.

- I first shampooed Emily’s hair with Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo to leave it soft, shiny and well conditioned for the intricacies of styling.

- After mixing a cocktail of Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream and the original Moroccanoil Treatment, I worked the blend from the middle to the ends of the hair to control ends and flyaways and provide natural-looking, soft hold.

- Next, I made a low side-part on the right and then pincurled the hair in alternating patterns towards the left and behind the right side. Since Emily’s gown had a beautiful beaded accent on the right shoulder, I wanted to place the hair behind the ear to show this off. (I made the pincurls in the classic way, pinning three alternate rows of of them (anti-clockwise/clockwise/anti-clockwise).

- I then misted Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on Emily’s wet hair and let it air-dry for one hour while make-up was applied. I didn’t use a hairdryer this time since I didn’t want the hair to appear blown in any way. I wanted it to look authentic with all the ends nice and neat, so the waves would look softer yet controlled when they were brushed.

- Once Emily’s hair had air-dried, I released the pincurls and raked my fingers through her hair. I used a panel brush to keep her hair flat to the head so it wouldn’t disturb the root movement of the wave, and gently brushed from part to ends so her hair fell into a lovely wave.

- Finally, I shaped and styled the flow of the look by framing the left side of Emily’s face with a cascade of waves. (I placed a hidden pair pin to hold it in place.)

- To accent the look, I attached a diamond accessory in the hair above the right ear (I crossed two bobby pins, clipped on the earring, and sewed it in with silver thread).

- Since we wanted the style to look a bit shorter and also accent the nape of her neck, I created a pincurled, textured effect there at the nape.

- I finished the look with a quick mist of argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to give the hair a beautiful hold without compromising on softness, movement or shine.

Hair Care Friday: Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

One of the things I tend to do after a birthday is start asking myself what still works and what doesn't. Without proper warning, I engage friends in deep conversations (usually about me…and usually when they're in places like doctors' waiting rooms or supermarket check out lines). I also start cleaning out drawers and closets.

Today I tried on a blouse to see if I still like it. I don't.

I know that a blog about makeup and skincare should generally stick to discussing…um… makeup and skincare; but every now and then something else pops into my head right before it’s time to discuss products. (But just so you won’t worry; I still have plans to tell you how fabulous today’s hair care items are.)

The reason I’m rambling about a blouse right now, though, is because buying it was kind of a turning point. It was the first thing I’d bought in a long time that made me feel pretty (and a little bit sexy). Before then, I had spent a long time hiding out from the world; and when I tried on that blouse (and actually bought it); it seemed like I was telling myself to step out of my comfort zone. When I finally wore it to work (and got compliments); it felt like something was beginning to change. It seemed like a huge step at the time. Since then, my life has opened up more than I ever dreamed possible; and it feels like the coming year will bring even more miracles.

Seeing that piece of clothing in my closet used to give me a happy jolt. But lately it’s just been sitting there and I’ve barely noticed it. And it no longer fits (literally or figuratively). That makes me a little sad; but I know that it’s time to appreciate it, then let it go and make room. I have a lot of decisions coming up about relationships, singing, writing, and things I want to deepen or change. I hope that a year from now I look back on another twelve months of amazing transformations (both in my closet and in my heart).

One of the more noticeable transformations in the works is my hair. Right now, letting my hair grow long again feels a little bit like re-igniting a spark. More importantly, it feels like a tangible commitment (as well as a surrender) to growth, openness and change. It also reminds me that however new-agey, touchy-feely and abstract I get, there are still practical matters to think about. Inspired by the lines of the metallic strapless Gucci mini-dress that Naomi wore, stylist Robert Vetica created a sleek look that referenced 60's British pop and a Studio 54 vibe refined by a soft, natural mood.

According to Vetica, "It was quite a change for Naomi. I cut 2 inches off, kept her hair blunt and collarbone length, and created bangs that swooped to the side. The length is a bit longer in front and slightly higher in back. The bangs were first cut long and blunt, then razored and texturized to about the bridge of the nose so they looked lighter around the face and were easily swept to the side.

"After we did so many different looks for Cannes, I wanted Naomi to look fresh and young and really different. The look had to accent her gorgeous blonde color, have lots of shine and movement and look really healthy and strong.

I started with Moroccanoil Light because fine blonde hair tangles so easily but can't take too much conditioner. Argan oil-infused Moroccanoil absorbs right into delicate lightened hair, makes it easier to comb, gives it a smoother texture, and eliminates flyaways. All eyes were on Angelina Jolie at the international press junket for her highly-anticipated film, "Salt," in Cancun, Mexico today.

Truly breathtaking, she wore an elegant, white strapless dress with hair that was smooth, sleek and natural-looking. It was styled by David Babaii, who created her beautiful new style with bangs.

This is how David achieved the look: "The humid climate and tropical breezes of Cancun presented unique styling challenges. After cutting the bangs a bit shorter and chipping into them so they appeared even softer and swept away, I dampened her hair and applied Moroccanoil Treatment to protect it during blowdrying, prevent frizz in this a very damp environment, and lock in weightless, natural-looking shine.

Next, I applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to create soft hold, and smooth any bends in her texture. I then made a side part, sweeping the bangs to the left, and created three sections: two on the side and a larger one in the back. I used a large round brush to blow each section smooth.

Hair Care Friday: Moroccanoil® Oil Treatment (review)

I'm happy to report that the first 6 weeks of growing out my hair have been very successful. Successful because my hair is…longer. Which isn't such a huge achievement, since I haven't had a haircut. But it's also successful because I'm having a whole lot of fun researching and trying out new hair care products. Getting longer hair is cool; but a new obsession is just plain awesome.

During my research, I kept coming across raves for an amazing brand: Moroccanoil. I've heard nothing but great things about them; and now I'm getting around to trying out some of the actual products!

Anyway…I totally get why everyone raves about this stuff! Moroccanoil is the originator of argan oil hair products, and they have gotten it absolutely right. We've had two days of wretched my-hair-hates-you humid weather; and this Treatment has tamed every smidgen of frizz. The curls look curly (vs. fuzzy) and my hair is shiny, pretty and manageable. It also feels really soft – but not oily or greasy at all.

I worked a very small amount through my damp hair and let it dry. That's it. It absorbed immediately and really did seem to help my hair dry a little bit faster. I especially love the way my ends look. I'm also thrilled that it protects against UV damage and nourishes the strands. And I can't wait to try this in conjunction with my coloring products!

Cannes: Emily Blunt and Moroccanoil

Emily Blunt's Hair Look at Cannes

Emily Blunt looked dazzling at the amFAR benefit at Cannes, wearing a fiery red George Chakra gown, bright red lips, and hair in soft, natural, shiny waves.

Laini Reeves (her famed UK born hair stylist will be opening the much-anticipated EssensualsLondon Salon in Los Angeles next month) created the beautiful look.

"I wanted Emily to be beautiful and sophisticated but to look her age, with hair down and flowing in soft waves that framed her face," she explained. "Since Emily was not only an event chair at the amFAR Cinema Against AIDS 2010 benefit, but was going to the party directly afterward, it was important to create a look that lasted long into the night. Emily has a lot of hair but it's very fine and doesn╒t always hold a wave, so I layered several Moroccanoil argan-oil infused products to give the hair a really nice healthy shine but to hold the style as well."

The Step-by-Step to create the look:

1) I first shampooed her hair with Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo followed by Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner. Next, I applied a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment on her wet hair, then mixed a cocktail of Moroccanoil Treatment with a pea-sized amount of Morocccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and worked it through from root to ends to give the hair shine, strength, and a soft hold.

2) I dried the hair using a diffuser to encourage natural waves, lifting the hair at the roots. I also added a bit more Moroccanoil Treatment after I dried the hair. This product is fantastic because I can keep using more and more of it and it absorbs right in.

3) Next, I went lightly over some of the curls with a large curling iron to give them more definition. I wanted the hair to look natural and only curled the areas where the hair needed to be filled in. I then raked my fingers through the hair to break up and separate the curls.

4) I then sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray all over the hair. It's my favorite hairspray. It holds the look but you can't see it on the hair. It comes out in really fine mist and you can put more and more on without it getting sticky.

5) I finished the look with a soft mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray so the hair looked even more luminous onstage. It's weightless like all the Moroccanoil products and gave the look a perfect finishing touch.

2010 Met Gala: Moroccanoil & Rachel Weisz, Sienna Miller and Claire Danes

The stars were out at the annual Met Ball at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, to help celebrate and raise funds for the opening of the Museum's 2010 Costume Institute Exhibit. Between thunderstorms, the weather was humid and hair stylists were challenged to create glamorous looks that were not only beautiful but also frizz-free:

Rachel Weisz

Hairstylist: Mark Townsend

"The theme of this year's Met Ball was "American Woman," and after seeing Rachel's Oscar de la Renta dress I knew that we should keep her hair down and sexy. I started by adding a few drops of Moroccanoil Treatment to her hair, to condition and strengthen it while reducing drying time. This helped ensure a shiny, healthy look. Then I blow-dried her hair with a medium-sized, round brush.

When all the hair was dry, I used a 13/4-inch curling iron and rolled the hair from the ends to the roots in the iron. This technique creates more volume at the bottom of the hair instead of at the roots. When the hair was curled, I brushed it out with a flat brush.

To tame flyaway hairs, I sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray on the top section of hair and then sprayed Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on the ends to fight the New York City humidity and frizz. This Spray helps to enhance Rachel's highlights and creates amazing shine that will last all night. Rachel was so happy with the outcome of her hair and felt it was soft and sexy with a bit of a classic 70's vibe."

Sienna Miller made a dramatic entrance wearing a stunning navy blue Emilio Pucci gown. The hair, created by celebrity stylist John D. was strongly inspired by the classic, sensual beauty of Brigitte Bardot.

According to John D., "I first prepped her slightly damp hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, applying a small amount on the palm of my hand then finger-combing it throughout the hair. I used it to hydrate and protect the hair as well as helping to counteract the humidity in the air and prevent frizz.

Next I did a super-clean, simple blowout using a flat bristle brush. I wanted to smooth out any natural wave yet still leave a bit of volume at the root.

After the hair was dry, I decided on a messy center part, then pulled back the front part of hair, and fastened half into an undone half-upstyle. I left a bit of volume at the crown so it would look slightly messy, yet classically Bardot.

The weather was very humid in New York this evening and the red carpet happened between rainstorms, so I had to rely on a spray I could trust to keep her style in place and under control. So I finished the look with new Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, which is strong enough to keep the style in place and tame frizz, but soft enough to make sure Sienna's hair looked natural and beautiful."

Claire Danes

Hairstylist: Peter Butler

Claire Danes looked exceptional in a strapless slate-grey gown by Christopher Bailey for Burberry, with a hair look that highlighted her elegant pale blonde color with natural-looking polished and textured waves.

According to stylist Peter Butler, "the look was elegant with a luxurious rock-and-roll edge. I created a higher part than Claire usually wears to open up her face and created smooth, flowing waves that looked tousled yet sophisticated. It's almost like a modern version of combed out beach waves with a refined texture."

To create the look: Peter Butler first applied a dry shampoo at the roots for volume, then used new argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Light to smooth and hydrate strands, reduce frizz, and help prepare and protect hair before using a curling iron.

"I used Moroccanoil Light because of Claire's fine texture and delicate pale blonde. Unlike a lot of other products, I knew it would be ideal for fine hair, wouldn't alter her unique color. It also protects without weighing hair down or interfering with the hairstyle"

Next, I used a medium barrel curling iron, picking up small sections starting at the nape of the neck, twisting hair around while leaving ends straight. After combing curls out with a wide-tooth comb, I adjusted the texture with my hands and brought them forward to soften the face.

Once I had the look, I used a bit more Moroccanoil Light to further smooth out ends and help prevent frizz because the air in New York tonight is quite humid. I finished with a light mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray followed by Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray for a hold that looked natural and allowed hair to move."

A perfect complement to the flowing waves and graceful lines of her ice blue Armani Privé dress, the look emphasized a flowing cascade of smooth, well-conditioned waves pulled back into a graceful bun.
