MmmmmmWAH! Josie Maran Lipstick (review)

Since there's always so much gloss talk, I decided to spend some of the summer discussing lipsticks. And I'm starting with that ultra quintessential iconic beauty item: red lipstick. Specifically, lipstick from Josie Maran in "Desirious."

Blurb: This decadent lipstick - housed in a chic, recyclable tube - pulls double duty: beautiful color plus a rich lip conditioner in one! The paraben and fragrance- free formula feels remarkably light. Natural, organic ingredients like Jojoba Seed Oil and Coconut Cream envelop lips in comfort all day long.

Now don't get me wrong - I surely do love my glosses. But nothing says, "Hello there, I am a sultry grown up lady," like a shiny tube of red lipstick. This one goes on silky, silky smooth. It feels like it’s hydrating and softening. It's meant to nourish and condition – and it does. Of course, that wouldn't really matter if it didn’t look great.

Guess what – it looks great.

It's exactly the right shade of brick red. It goes on in a thin layer, and it's highly pigmented. The result is smooth, even texture and deep color. It even left plenty of pigment behind after some of the shine had rubbed off – making my lips look slightly stained. Very nice.

Josie Maran creates non-toxic, earth friendly products free of parabens and petrochemicals. These lipsticks come in recyclable packaging (are also fragrance free and not tested on animals). Her slogan is "Luxury with a Conscience." (I personally think it should be “glamour with a conscience” because her products are so old school drop dead glamorous.)

Check the other red ("Devious") and the rest of the colors (like "Adventurous," "Precocious," "Mysterious," and "Rumi Joon") on the website. You can also buy Josie Maran at Sephora.
