Pre-Vacation Wednesday: Clinique NEW Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF15 (review)

Tonight I’m getting ready for my Memorial Day mini-vacation by making a bunch of lists. For some reason a good list or two always makes things seem less overwhelming. It’s also kind of fun to plan the packing and think about what I’ll be doing. And it saves time when it comes to actually putting the actual stuff in the actual suitcase.

Okay…I’m rambling. Time for some vacation-worthy (and blog-worthy) beauty. From Clinique.

NEW Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer (SPF15)

Blurb: Smooth on an instant moisture boost with SPF protection and a hint of skin-perfecting colour. Refreshingly lightweight formula provides a no-makeup look and feel, yet covers imperfections with a natural, hydrating touch. Oil-free.

Wow! This made my skin look great! It smoothed on easily, blended almost effortlessly, and turned into weightless, sheer-to-medium coverage. It evened out my skin tone extremely well, and the finish was very natural looking. It also felt nice and light – perfect for the warm weather.

Another great thing for the warm weather – sunscreen. An SPF of 15 is a mighty good thing.

Right now if you visit the website, you can take advantage of an awesome gift with purchase (a silvery cosmetics bag and your choice of 6 treats with any purchase of $21.50). And if you want to try out a few swatches in person, click on the store and event locator. Clinique is available at fine department stores and Sephora.

Abundant Thursday: NEW Clinique Chubby Sticks (review)

Tomorrow morning begins my return to responsible nutrition (and weight loss) after many many days of indulgence. I think tonight I'll salute my burst of hedonism with some low-cal, high-fun beauty from Clinique.

Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm (in “whole lotta honey” and “fuller fig”)

Blurb: Super-nourishing balm is loaded with mango and shea butters. Just what dry, delicate lips need to feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight natural-looking lip tints in all, each with a subtle sheen.

Before I even tried them, I was already smitten with the name, and the super cute chubby crayon shape. Once I put them on, I also loved the sheer, pretty, subtle colors. “whole lotta honey” is a honey-rose, and “fuller fig” (my favorite) is more of a bronze-rose. Both shades are flattering, natural looking and have a dewy sheen.

These are especially great to have on hand at work. When the windows are shut and the air conditioners are going, my lips get dry. Chubby Sticks are hydrating, smooth, soothing and…fun!

Check out all eight shades on the website. You can also take a look at the rest of the Spring Top 10, and browse some of the Exclusive Gift Sets for Mothers’ Day. Clinique is available at fine department stores and Sephora.

Red Lips Kiss My Blues Away! Go Red For Women – Part 5 (info and review redux)

Today is Go Red for Women Day (also known as National Wear Red Day). I've been doing a little feature (aka: featurette) each day this week to give the day a bit of attention.

Go Red for Women Day was founded by the American Heart Association to promote awareness of heart disease for women. By wearing red today, you're helping to raise awareness about heart disease. You can also check out the Go Red website for more opportunities, events and ideas.

Today's Link: Learn to protect your own heart! Check out the ABC's of Prevention from the American Heart Association.

Red Beauty Suggestions: A parade of lovely red lipsticks! You're probably dressed already (if you're not, I'm horribly jealous of you). So instead of suggesting clothes, I thought I'd spotlight one of my favorite beauty items…red lipstick. Here is a revisit of some of my favorites…

Bésame Cosmetics Voluptuous Lip Color Set (Red Velvet)

This is one glamorous, gorgeous lipstick. The color is a rich, deep crimson with a luxurious, satin finish. My lips looked absolutely lavish. (Think warm nights, expensive cocktails, tangos and Antonio Banderas.) This is knock-em-out, dressed-to-kill, femme fatale red. It also has great staying power (femmes fatale need staying power). For something a little different, I also smudged this on my lips with my finger and got a fab I-look-really-hot-in-just-my-jeans lip stain.

Josie Maran Lipstick (Desirious)

This one goes on silky, silky smooth. It feels like it’s hydrating and softening. It's meant to nourish and condition – and it does. It's also exactly the right shade of brick red. It goes on in a thin layer, and it's highly pigmented. The result is smooth, even texture and deep color. It even left plenty of pigment behind after some of the shine had rubbed off – making my lips look slightly stained. Very nice.

A sheer, yet vibrant cranberry in Clinique's super comfy, shiny, moisturizing Butter Shine formula. I love the soft shine combined with the flattering (and festive) cranberry color.

pürminerals Mineral Shea Butter Lipstick (Red Ruby)

Fab! It's called "Ruby," but it's really a sweet, delicious, fun cherry red. Perfect for a pretty cherry pout.

Stila Long Wear Lip Color (Paramour and Rendezvous)

These are a great cross between a gloss and stick. The packaging is excellent for keeping in your bag or desk drawer (or even your pocket). "Paramour" is a medium brick red, and "Rendezvous" is a brownish red with a bit of shimmer. Both are highly pigmented. They feel really lovely and soft on the lips and have better than expected staying power.

YSL Fard À Lèvres Rouge Pur (Opium Red #131)

I am still in hot freaky love with this lipstick - highly pigmented, creamy color that glides on and feel absolutely weightless. And it looks stunning – full coverage lipstick with a lovely sheen. It also lasts like you wouldn't believe - eating, drinking, talking, singing, whatever. And when the lipstick finally does rub off, there's still color left behind on the lips. This is the kind of drop-dead, gorgeous red that could only come from a French company. A warm, deep, velvety shade that flatters almost every skin tone. Sexy, voluptuous and decadent. Sigh!

DuWop Private Red

Just when I thought my obsession for red lipstick had run its course; this one pulled…me…back…in! I can't vouch for each person, but it sure worked for this particular person (aka: me). The color looked a little orangey when it went on; but within a couple of seconds, the shade changed slightly and looked exactly right for my complexion. The formula is smooth, creamy and has a soft shine. It also leaves a gorgeous stain that lasts forever.

Thursday Lipstick Party (aka Random Lipstick Post and Review)

It seems that I have become a lipstick fiend over the last few months. I still love my glosses, but lately I have been downright fascinated with the super grownup, glam, ladylike vibe of the lipstick tube. (Most of you know this already, since my blog has reflected my lipstick craze.)

Well believe it or not, there are still quite a few tubes that I tried out, but still haven't found time to review. So in the hopes of getting "caught up," I decided to talk about a few of them (non-reds!) today. So let's get the lipstick party started!

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick (In Amethyst Shimmer)

Blurb: “Intense-Wear” formula enriched with 50% more long-wear color-boost pigments. Lasts up to 8 hours! Vitamins C and E provide essential antioxidant protection.

I don’t usually pay attention to fragrances in lip products, but this one smelled really good – but with no flavor. The formula is very creamy and the color is a mauve/pink with a soft shine. I like it during this time of year because it's a nice break from the usual fall/winter colors. It feels silky smooth going on and wears well.

Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick With Sila-Silk Technology (In Exquisite)

Blurb: Indulge lips with silky, rich color and lasting moisturization. Our innovative, exclusive sila-silk formula is enhanced with light reflecting polymers and silica for exceptional shine and flawless application. Vitamin E and Tahitian flower provide non-stop hydration and plush, cushion-like comfort. It’s like moisturizer for your lips! Winner of a Self Magazine Healthy Beauty Award and a Glam Beauty Award Nominee for Best Lipstick.

This is a beautiful Pinky-Brown color. A great everyday shade, and a wonderful formula. Smashbox combines moist shine with pretty good staying power. (And I know I'm not supposed to talk about reds in this post, but if you come across "Lavish," snap one up…just sayin).

Clinique Butter Shine Lipstick (In Cranberry Cream)

Blurb: The creamiest, richest, smoothest lip colour you can imagine. Our revolutionary gel formula delivers the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a lipstick. Drenches lips in moist, lush colour that glides on buttery-soft, feels luxuriously smooth.

This is a great holiday shade. It's a sheer, yet vibrant cranberry in Clinique's super comfy, shiny, moisturizing Butter Shine formula. I love the soft shine combined with the flattering (and festive) cranberry color.

Laura Mercier Shimmer Lip Color (in Fresh Brown)

Blurb: Laura Mercier Lip Colour - Shimmer now changes the way you feel about lipstick in one swipe in the newest, revolutionary lip colour formula. The wide range of shades and finishes enhances your lips appearance, protects them from the elements, provides hydration and cares for the lips like skincare.

This is another excellent everyday shade. It's a pretty, shimmery brown that goes with absolutely everything. Instead of a glossy shine, it has a sophisticated shimmer. I especially like wearing this outdoors in the colder months because it provides a bit of a shield against the elements.

Urban Decay Lipstick (in Oil Slick)

Blurb: Lips are sealed with decadently creamy, long-lasting color, a wide variety of textures, and a sweet lick of crème caramel. Armored by a menacing dagger, our Lipstick is a weapon of love.

Yes…it's black. I'm a huge fan of UD everything, including their lipsticks. The formula is fantastic and this shade is especially awesome. It's a sheer black with a silver shimmer. It looks fabulous (and flattering) by itself and thoroughly glams up any other color you might want to layer it over. (BTW: UD also has shadow, pencil and liquid liner in this shade…also awesome.)

I still have a few unsung lipstick heroes sitting on my vanity waiting for their moment of glory, but I'll save them for another time. Thank you for coming to my little lipstick party, and happy Thursday!

ESS-PEA-EFF: Series Finale

Well it looks like I've pretty much beat this subject into the ground…almost! Sorry, but before all the outdoor fun begins; I want to mention (briefly!) a few more awesome products to shelter your lovely skin. Then I'll stop. Really. I promise.

Clinique Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector (SPF 40)
I use this a lot because it's a great reasonably priced, makeup-friendly sunscreen. It's lightly tinted, zinc-oxide based, feels weightless and actually helps even out my skintone. It has a slightly higher than usual SPF and is also fairly water resistant. Contains anti-oxidants, oil-free, non-comedogenic, allergy-tested and fragrance free.

Origins Out Smart™ Daily (SPF 25)
This is one of the few non-zinc oxide sunscreens I recommend because it goes on like a dream. It feels smooth, weightless and absolutely melts into skin. It's lightly tinted, incredibly soothing and slightly moisturizing. Oil-free, dermatologist and opthamologist tested.

Solar Sense Clear Zinc, Advanced Sun Protection For Face (SPF 45)
Micronized zinc oxide means no white cast. It offers great protection and comes in a convenient, travel-friendly plastic jar. It's also fairly water-resistant. Contains vitamins A, C, E, aloe and green tea. Non-greasy, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and doesn't clog pores.

SkinCeuticals Ultimate UV Defense (SPF 30)
Contains transparent zinc oxide and doesn't leave a white cast. Slightly moisturizing, but doesn't clog pores. This works pretty well as a makeup base too. My dermatologist recommends this highly for every day use.

DDF Organic Sun Protection (SPF 30)
I reviewed this in an earlier post, but it bears mentioning again. DDF is an excellent skincare line and this sunscreen is no exception. Oil free, non-comedogenic, moisturizing, non-irritating and contains antioxidants. It isn't sweat-proof, but it's excellent for those days that are sunny, but not too hot.

Aveeno Ultra Calming Daily Moisturizer (SPF 15)
This is another non-zinc oxide sunscreen. What makes it a standout is its ability to soothe and calm irritated skin. My neck can get extremely sensitive sometimes, and this moisturizer calms it right down and feels wonderful while it protects. Oil-free, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested.

Delicious Purple

My favorite color is purple. Royal purple to be exact. It’s been my favorite color since I was a kid. I once dated a guy whose favorite color was also royal purple. (That’s not why we were together, but it came in handy at gift giving time.)

I also like muted tones, bright orange, turquoise and lime green. But those colors do not always like me back. No problem - I can always count on purple. Luckily there are approximately one gazillion kinds of purple things in little jars and tubes to keep me happy forever.

After yesterday's batch of strange beauty items; I think that today I'll share three of my favorite delicious, purple lip products.

Delicious purple product #1 Clinique Colour Surge Butter Shine Lipstick in “Crushed Grape”

Blurb: The creamiest, richest, smoothest lip colour you can imagine. Our revolutionary gel formula delivers the shine of a gloss, the comfort of a lipstick. Drenches lips in moist, lush colour that glides on buttery-soft, feels luxuriously smooth.

Butter? Grape? How delicious is that already? This is one of my every day “go to” lipsticks. It has pretty, sheer, slightly shimmery coverage as well as decent staying power. The color is a soft (buttery…mmm) wine shade. It's slightly conditioning and very wearable.

Delicious purple product #2 NARS lip gloss in “Revolt”
Next blurb: Serious shine and sexy color in sheer, creamy and semi-sheer formulas. Extremely wearable and versatile shades may be worn alone or over other lip products for heightened drama.

Yay NARS! Well to begin with, NARS lip glosses are just plain fabulous. They last and they look great. This shade just happens to be the absolute perfect color. Shiny. Dark. Grape. Really, really flattering. (NARS also used to make a lip laquer in “chica boom” that I am now wishing I bought when I saw it, because I can't find it now.)

Delicious purple product #3 Vincent Longo Lip Vinyl in “8½”

Remaining blurb: This gloss is like no other. The click pen packaging with a velvety tip applicator dispenses color and makes it easy to apply the gel like texture that leaves lips coated in high definition color and smooth, three-dimensional shine with extreme comfort. The superior moisturizing formula delivers an extremely shiny, ultra wet and smoothing finish that wears for hours. Lip Vinyl is high shine without stickiness or the need to reapply frequently.

This is an awesome formula and probably my favorite lip product packaging. The finish is very slick and shiny (like um…vinyl) and has great staying power. This color makes a little more of a statement with lots of coverage and a deep, smoky, plum shade.

So there you have it. Lips. Purple. Delicious. Nuff said.
