Closer to Home: Lindi Skin (review) and Hosts for Hospitals

I know everyone is looking towards New York and Fashion Week right now (woo hoo!). But I wanted to take a little time this week for a couple of Philadelphia area "locals": Lindi Skin (a company creating products for sensitive and compromised skin) and Hosts for Hospitals (an organization that addresses the housing needs of patients and families coming to the area for specialized medical care).

Lindi Skin was originally created to meet the needs of people whose skin was compromised by cancer and cancer treatment. Now their products offer luxurious, soothing skincare to everyone.

Blurb: The creation of Lindi Skin started with my experience watching friends go through cancer treatment. They expected the nausea, fatigue and hair loss associated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but they were not aware of the impact that these therapies would have on their skin. In discovering there was not one line of skin care products specifically developed for people with cancer, it occurred to me that someone had to create one. We have aligned with dermatologists, oncologists, nurses, patients and skincare formulators to create the first and only complete skin care line developed for the unique needs of people with cancer. Our products are elegant and luxurious so they make you feel incredible. Our formulas are unique, gentle, and soothing. We use the finest ingredients for the ultimate hydration. To help you reclaim your skin. And regain a little control over your everyday. In sickness and in health, Lindi Skin offers you skincare for life.

I decided to enlist the help of a friend to test out a few of the products. Another Nancy I know (former boss and current friend) is the Director of National Programs for Hosts for Hospitals.

Blurb: Our Purpose is to provide free lodging and support at volunteer-host homes as a caring response to the housing needs of patients and their families who come to the Greater Philadelphia area for specialized medical care. Each year, thousands of people travel to the Philadelphia area seeking medical care. Almost every patient has someone travel along to provide support. Often these people, and even the patients themselves, arrive in desperate need of convenient, inexpensive lodging. Hosts for Hospitals meets their needs through our network of volunteer host homes. Our hosts are caring people who provide a place to sleep and a feeling of home. Guests are able to return to the hospital each day refreshed and thus able to best offer support to their loved one.

Years ago, Nancy underwent cancer treatment and now has extremely sensitive skin. We each reviewed a couple of the products.

Lindi Soothing Balm

Blurb: Great for dry skin in any season, Lindi Soothing Balm comes in an attractive pump bottle to give you a dollop of moisturizing relief anytime. Originally formulated to help manage intensely dry hands and feet, Lindi Soothing Balm is a highly emollient lotion for intensely dehydrated areas of the skin. With an abundance of avocado oil, Soothing Balm is especially beneficial to painful, cracked and peeling skin. It should be used after washing with Lindi Body Wash, while skin is still damp, but can be reapplied as often as needed.

Nancy used the balm on a finger that has been giving her trouble for a long time. Her dermatologist recommended "superhydration" with a good moisturizer and Nancy found that she got the same result as the product recommended by the dermatologist.

Lindi Face Serum

Blurb: Formulated with the highest concentration of our proprietary LSA Complex ®, replete with botanicals, antioxidants and vitamins, this serum provides beneficial moisture and ultimate comfort to compromised skin on the face, neck, chest, back and scalp. The unique non-oily formula glides on silky-smooth and begins restoring immediately. Try both Lindi Face Serums—refreshingly light botanical essences of citrus or lavender. Use as often as needed; for best results apply after washing with Lindi Face Wash.

Nancy used the Serum in the evening, and also in the morning before putting on her moisturizer and makeup. Although it seemed oily on her finger, it was fine on her face and she really liked the way it penetrated into her skin.

Lindi Body Wash

Blurb: A unique daily body wash with moisturizing ingredients that cling to your skin after rinsing. You will feel the difference with this soap alternative after just one use. This gentle, non-foaming formula feels luxurious as it refreshes the body and scalp. Use as often as needed and follow with Lindi Body Lotion.

Lindi Body Lotion

Blurb: This skin-quenching lotion delivers a combination of antioxidants and hydrating ingredients that nourish the skin while reinforcing its natural barrier to prevent moisture loss. Light, refreshing and luxurious, Lindi Body Lotion is superb for all-over, everyday use. Best applied to wet or damp skin, right out of the shower.

I really loved both the body wash and lotion. "Soothing" would be too mild a term for these products..."comforting" is more like it. My skin felt pampered, soft and protected. These products aren't fragrance free; but the scent was a light and lovely citrus. My skin stayed soft and hydrated all day.

Even when everything is completely uncertain, chaotic and ridiculous (aka: now), there's always a part of me that gratefully acknowledges how many blessings I have in this life…and how lucky I am to enjoy freedom, family, friends and health. And it makes me happy that I can use my little bitty blog to talk about some local folks that are doing good things (whether it's taking care of beauty or taking care of bodies).

You can check out Hosts for Hospitals to find out about their Local Program, National Program, Volunteer opportunities or to make a donation.

And you can check out all of the great Lindi Skin products including gift ideas, special offers and educational resources on their website.
