Hair Care Friday: Phytocitrus Restructuring Mask (review)

Oh my goodness – I actually made it through this week. I can't believe it's Friday! Not only is it Friday…it's Hair Care Friday. And this week, I'm reviewing a lovely mask from Phyto.

Phytocitrus Restructuring Mask - Color-Treated Hair

If you ever met me in person, you would realize right away that I color my hair. Mainly because reddish/brown hair with glints of purple doesn't really occur in nature. Not only do I color my already dry, curly hair; I'm also in the process of growing it out again. Which means I am constantly on the look out for anything that will promote good hair health (so I'll end up with long pretty hair vs. straw). This mask is made for people like me. It protects the color (reds fade more easily than other shades), and conditions beautifully.

I first tried it according to the instructions. I worked it through my hair, left it on for 5 minutes, then rinsed. I got great results – very soft hair and nice curls. But I like to wear hair masks overnight, so I also tried it that way. (And because I wear masks overnight, I really appreciated the lovely fragrance.) The texture is lovely (very creamy, easy to apply, and minimal "goo" factor); and the results from my overnight trial were spectacular. My hair was softer, bouncier and very very manageable all day long. Excellent!

Yikes – this week just keeps getting crazier! Where are my lazy days of summer?

Just kidding, things have been hectic, but not exactly bad. It's mostly good things that have me running around like a crazy person. A whole lot of good (time consuming) things. Luckily, one of the nice things about blogging is that every day is kind of like getting a "do over." And I couldn't possibly miss my Thursday "Face" item. This Thursday, my praise is short and sweet; and it's for Vincent Longo.

Perfect Canvas Loose Face Powder

I first tried this powder about three years ago when Bath & Body Works was having a giant sale; and I keep coming back to it. It's weightless, goes on beautifully, and doesn't cake, streak or build up. It sets my foundation really well (and, of course, works perfectly with VL foundations). It keeps oil at bay and helps my foundation stay put longer.

But what I really love is the look. Once it's on, it's undetectable; yet my face looks polished and flawless. I use a kabuki brush to apply, but the compact jar comes with its own puff – making it excellently portable!

I Have Returned! CLEAN Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Cream (review)

Hello everyone. Sorry I couldn't write a review yesterday – it was just too crazy. The thunderstorm finally hit (in a big way), but I managed to get everything done that I needed to do outside. I wish I could say I was all done…but I can't. I still have a ton of cleaning and organizing to do tonight – but then I'm finished. For a while at least. (For some reason my dishes refuse to wash themselves.)

Speaking of cleaning, I can't help but think that a cheesy tie-in is long overdue. So today's lovely (and extremely useful) beauty item is from the folks at CLEAN.

Anti-Bacterial Moisturizing Hand Cream

Since this company is known for its wonderful bath, body and home fragrances; I find it slightly funny that the first product I've ever reviewed from them is unscented. But there you have it! Instead of pretty smells, you get a really fine cream that does double duty by killing germs while moisturizing.

I decided to try it for an entire day. Usually when I use an antibacterial throughout the day, my hands are pretty cranky by evening. This was different. I washed my hands, patted them dry and applied the cream. It felt moisturizing and soothing, then dried to a very light coating. There was no stickiness or greasiness; and my hands felt protected for hours. Every four hours, I washed my hands and reapplied. At the end of the day, my hands were baby smooth - no roughness or dryness at all! Awesome!

I'm keeping the tube in my bag now. A good antibacterial is especially necessary in the warmer months (when we're more likely to come in contact with the "ick" factor). This cream would also make a great addition to your travel stash. It comes in a small one-ounce tube and is perfect for all those travel places with lots of "surfaces."

Hair Care Friday: Sebastian Potion 9 Wearable Treatment (review)

Just a warning: I am all out of snappy repartee! Not that I had a ton of it to begin with this week; but whatever there was has been used up. I can't even think of a corny tie-in. Which means today you're getting just a straight up review. Which isn't such a bad thing - especially if I'm reviewing a straight up excellent product from Sebastian.

Potion 9 Wearable Treatment

Whatever the packaging; this is one of those "go to" hair care items everyone should have. I like to comb it through my hair while it's still wet and let it sit for a few minutes. Afterwards, I either air dry or style. It not only works like a great leave-in to make my hair soft and manageable – it also repairs hair over time. It won't magically put a split-end back together, but it has cumulative softening, conditioning and protecting effects. My hair actually feels softer and more resilient since I started using this on a regular basis!

I got pretty lucky and found a giant stash (old packaging) at TJMaxx. I'm guessing Marshall's may have some too (since they often have the same products). I got four tubes at about a third of the price – so you may want to take a look if there's one of these stores in your area.

You can't buy from the website, but Sebastian Hair Care products are sold at salons, drugstores and even a few grocery stores. The site even has a salon locator.

About Face: FACE Stockholm Mineral Foundation (review)

Yesterday started out peacefully and got progressively crazier. By evening I was completely overwhelmed. Conversely, this morning was frantic and tense, then started mellowing out. Now I’m home from the gym, completely relaxed and ready to go to class later. Balance (Grasshopper).

Of course I am a teensy bit late with my review. But hey…it’s all good. And our Thursday face product is from FACE Stockholm.

Mineral Foundation

The coverage is sheer and somewhat buildable. It feels weightless and looks gorgeous. It does a great job of evening out the skin tone (even in places where I get a little red), and the finish is natural, fresh and slightly glowy (but not shiny). It wears pretty well, and even has a bit of sun protection. It’s also non-comedogenic and paraben-free. I love wearing it; and right now it has taken up residence in my bag (it’s absolutely perfect for touch ups)!

Aaand were Back! Sephora by O∙P∙I Havana Nights Mini Collection (review)

I can't believe the holiday weekend is already over! It was awesome (hope yours was too), and it went by too fast! Since 'real' life feels like a big adjustment today; I perked myself up with one of my new nail colors. It's "Read My Palm" from the Havana Nights collection by Sephora by O∙P∙I.

I love O∙P∙I minis; and a few weeks ago, these were calling my name from across the store (so of course I had to pay attention). I especially love minis when I want to try out a color, but don't necessarily want to commit to a whole bottle – and if it's something out of the ordinary that I won't wear as often as a basic color. That said, three of the four colors just might make it to "big bottle" status anyway.

"Teal We Meet Again" is one of the most gorgeous evening colors I've come across. It's a deep blue-green with green shimmer. It's dark enough to be edgy, but not so much that it seems black. "Read My Palm" is my favorite. I would describe it as a muted mint green (with a hint of blue). It's a beautiful summer color – it has a bit of a carefree 80's vibe, but can also look more sedate against neutral colors. "Rumba Romance" is probably the sexiest of the four. It's got flashy gold and tawny shimmer, and goes perfectly with sunshine, bare arms and lots of shiny bracelets. "Caliente Coral" is a bright, spicy, reddish-orange. If you want a break from the usual reds and pinks, this color will look amazing.

Even though "Read My Palm" was my favorite, it's definitely a spring/summer color. But the other three colors would be great long after summer is over. "Rumba" and "Caliente" would be gorgeous for fall ("Caliente Coral" would be especially hot with gray, black, brown or olive). And "Teal" would look stunning with a little black dress any time of year.

Wow! My hair was super soft, manageable and shiny. My curls were springy and I didn't even need to use a leave-in. Actually, I forgot to use a leave-in that day – but my hair stayed lovely and frizz-free anyway.

The single-use packets (generous enough for two applications) are convenient and perfect for travel/gym bag, etc. The minty fragrance and tingly feel were also very enjoyable. Last Saturday (before the BBQ), I finished applying my makeup (except for mascara), shook the bottle, then spritzed it over my face and let it dry. Then I applied mascara and headed out the door.

The finish was slightly dewey (very pretty); and I couldn't even feel it on my skin once it dried - frankly, I wasn't so sure it was working. But every time I checked my makeup, it looked just fine. And at the end of a long afternoon in the heat and humidity, everything was right where I left it! Needless to say, it also does its job when I'm not at a barbecue. I even tried a bit more over my lipstick and was astounded at how much longer it stayed put! This stuff is amazing!
