Spring Cleaning: Ahava Cleansing Cream (review)

It’s still spring. And the forecast tomorrow is for…snow. Really? Yes, really. Sigh. Pennsylvania has not gotten the memo from Mother Nature yet.

Anyway, I have decided that it’s spring no matter what. It’s definitely spring in my heart (heh). And it’s going to be spring in my home...because I’m dedicating the week to spring cleaning. And in the spirit of cleaning stuff up – here’s a…wait for it…cleanser! From Ahava.

This may be my first Ahava review (and if I wasn’t so lazy I’d check my archives instead of guessing). I’m amazed I haven’t reviewed their products more. Everyone here at work raves about Ahava – especially when it’s cold and dry. And every now and then someone takes a trip to Israel and brings back a big haul.

I now see why everyone raves. This cleanser is really kind to skin. I tried a sample, and now I’m raving too. It gently and thoroughly removed my makeup (and sunscreen). And after I rinsed, my skin felt clean, fresh and balanced. I’m thinking of getting this for my gym bag. Since I work out in a pool, this would be a great post-chlorine cleanser.

Of course you don’t have to travel to Israel to find this. There’s a dandy U.S. website where you can browse and order to your heart’s content. Spring Has Sprung! Dior Crayon Eyeliner Pencil (review)

Spring has arrived, and mother nature is throwing a little bit of a tantrum today (rain, cold, and even some snow for my friends in Northeast PA). But I will not be diverted! I’m welcoming in Spring with a pretty (and portable) bit of green. From Dior.

I bought this pencil specifically because of the color. I’ve been hearing about Dior pencils forever, and I’ve been looking for this shade of dark green in a portable pencil (I already have this shade in a cream/gel, but that’s another review).

What I absolutely love about this pencil is the deep, hunter green. I have brown eyes, and wear green a lot; and I’ve been wanting a dark green liner in portable form. This really fits the bill. It has a liner, blender/smudger tip, and comes with a sharpener. Very convenient. The pencil is soft (no tugging or pulling); and the formula smudges/blends beautifully.

I should let you know that this is not a long-wearing formula. But for my purposes, it's fine. I was looking for versatility and portability in a very specific shade. What I also love is that in a pinch, I can use it for contouring, and even rub some on lightly with my finger for a shadow.

I spent most of the week on the sofa watching just about every episode ever made of "Law & Order SVU" and "Criminal Intent." Eventually though, I had to pry myself off of the couch and shuffle in to work. Needless to say, my beauty regimen was pretty bare bones.

This Styling Cream was a gigantic help. (I tried it months ago, and kept meaning to write about it, but kept getting sidetracked. So I took it out on Wednesday to help with my hair emergency.) This is a lifesaver when you’re low on time (or energy) and still want your hair to look great. All I have to do is put about 2 or 3 pumps in my hands, rub my hands together and then apply the cream evenly through my damp hair. Super easy. It has a light hold without being sticky; and I get nice controlled curls/waves with extra shine, and no frizz. It also contains hydrating ingredients, so it does a little double duty as well.

Retro Movie Wednesday: Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Shadow Palette (review)

It looks like the rest of my week is going to be a little rushed. But there’s always time for beauty. Especially if it’s a gorgeous new palette from Estée Lauder.

Bronze Goddess Island Oasis Eye Shadow Palette

The colors in this palette are beautiful and flattering. It’s a range of warm bronzes, glowing golds, a shimmering dark lava (far left), and a pale pearly shade (far right) that reminds me of white sand beaches. My favorite, though, is the gorgeous aqua color. It reminds me of mermaids. Sigh.

Retro Movie Tuesday: Korres Evening Primrose Eye Cream (review)

Well it’s already after 10:00 and I’m finally sitting down to my blog. I don’t even have a time for a corny tie in tonight, so let’s just get to my review of a wonderful eye cream. From Korres.

Evening Primrose Eye Cream (SPF 6)

There are a whole lot of good things going for this eye cream. It’s natural, it’s vegan(!), and it works beautifully. It’s smooth, rich and soothing, yet it also absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any oily residue.

I got a deluxe sample of this and found that a little bit goes a very long way. It gave me a chance to use it for a couple of weeks, and I really liked the results. My little lines were less noticeable; and the bit of under eye darkness I have is already much lighter. I’m thinking of getting a full size tube of this and seeing how it works over the long haul.

Retro Movie Monday: MAC Lip Pencil (review)

Here’s what happens when I can’t justify buying another lipstick. I buy a lip pencil. Because I care. About…I don’t know…um…diversity. Yeah, that’s right…diversity.

Seriously. I realized that lip pencils have gotten short shrift on my blog, so I decided to try one out. From MAC.

Lip Pencil (in Nightmoth)

I found out why I should give lip pencils more attention. And I was reminded (again) that I should definitely give MAC more attention. I love this pencil. “Nightmoth” is a deep, dark burgundy (very glamorous). The pencil is highly pigmented, excellent quality, and sharpens to a tiny super precise point.

What really makes these pencils awesome is their versatility. I tried mine as a lip liner and it did a great job (no surprise there). I also completely filled in my lip and got a perfectly precise dramatic, matte finish that stayed put forever. When I wanted something a little more glam, I added a bit of gloss; and when I wanted something softer, I smudged the color over my lips with a finger to get a berry-stained look.

I even used it to line my eyes once. It’s not approved for that, so don’t follow my terrible example...but it looked really awesome. Just saying.

Happy Friday, everyone! I’m in a big rush to do absolutely nothing this weekend. I’m spending as much time as possible being a lazy hermit. But before I disappear, I’ll ring in the weekend with great hair care value from Alberto VO5.

I was really happy to try all four of these products. The hairsprays got a great work out during our very windy days of early March, and I was impressed that my hair stayed put.

My two favorites from this line, though, were the Styling Gel and Styling Mousse. The mousse gave nice definition to my curls, added shine, and kept the frizz away. I got a really pretty low-maintenance look with the gel. I rubbed a bit between my hands, rubbed it through my hair and did a bit of scrunching while it dried. It was a very easy, pretty tousled look. And now that my hair is so much longer, I plan to do this a lot during the spring and summer.

Winter came back today with cold air and too much wind; but by golly it’s still sunny outside. So I’m staying in my silver lining mood for one more day, and talking about more brightness. From DHC.
